Gotta give Jessica Dube credit for doing singles. Must have been strange, and the preparation time obviously has been limited. Good for her for pushing herself though.
Sigh. I don't know why I do this to myself. I know that Chan's scores will be disgustingly high every time he skates and yet I die of curiosity without knowing the standings and what not for all these competitions. At least Shawn Sawyer did well. Solid performance - good job!
@9:28--I believe it was described as THE BEST not "one of the best". That wasn't quite as vomit worthy as the drooling on the slow footwork or declaring that he "sets the standard" for musicality. Or the fact that they giggled in glee at one point.
I assume he will score 300 for his FS if he keeps himself to less than three falls?
I struggled with the 'get the girl' comment too. I can't believe how bad these commentators are. Where's Kurt. Anyway they really have blinders on. If anything Takahashi set the standard getting level 4 on his footwork and then everyone else really started stepping up...not Chan. The same commentator saying Cynthia was gets an 'A' for the short and then 'B' for the long sure did change her silly fickle mind after Cynthia won. All of sudden it was a A.
AJ, what do you think Phaneuf and Samson's potential is at worlds? Top 5 for Cynthia if she hits, top 10 if she doesn't? I wish Najarro had finished at least in front of Lacoste, whose Scheherezade program has been a hot mess all year. Do Canadian ladies stick to easier spin positions? I'm happy they aren't too fugly but couldn't they codewhore a bit more?
No wonder Chan has such an inflated ego. Canadians act like it's the second coming when Chan lands a clean 3A... the only one he landed in the entire competition...
Over it! Skate Canada is such a joke, I should know better by now.
Well, Rachel scored over 200pts last Nats and Joannie got 140 over in the long program at Nats, too. I mean.. National's score is always such a bitch not only Canada but others.
Two quads, 3A, complicated choreography, passionate performance, astonishing footwork.... the score may be a joke, but the performance sure as hell wasn't.
Yeah I'm typically a Pchiddy hater but he definitely delivered at Nationals and I can't deny his skating and season have steadily improved...substantially @ that. also: Shawn Sawyer was totally adorable and inspiring in his Mad Hatter FS achieving a PB & bringing the crowd to its feet
I was at the arena for the men's free skate and hours after chan's performance i am still buzzing from how good it was... some people may complain that his marks are too high, but frankly speaking, he totally deserved them tonight.
What, Rachel scored 200 over last year? That makes me more hilarious. National is very generous. In the National competition, Mao got full credit and even GOE for her very underotated 3A. Yes, Joannie got 140 over in the free program. Mirai also got over 70 in the short when she was junior.. You can't blame only PChiddy. At least, he deserved that score. He is just fab tonight.
Yikes...you are right Aunt Joyce. The US is so lucky to have Tara Lipinski and Terry Gannon. Maybe they can come across the border for some of our events.
Only Canadian commentators would describe Patrick's short program as one of the most creative in the world. Bah.

ReplyDeleteIt isn't like the standards of being competitive in ladies at Canadian Nationals are that hard...
ReplyDeleteSigh. I don't know why I do this to myself. I know that Chan's scores will be disgustingly high every time he skates and yet I die of curiosity without knowing the standings and what not for all these competitions. At least Shawn Sawyer did well. Solid performance - good job!
ReplyDeleteI really like Sawyer! I find Chan insanely talented but dull....
ReplyDeleteLoveloveLOVE Shawn Sawyer!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the vomit alert, AJ!
ReplyDeleteI turned the sound off and watched mute.
Patrick Chan is the new Evan Lysacek: extremely hardworking and moderately talented but incredibly pedestrian and unrightfully cocky.

Just think how much higher Chan would have scored if only he had fallen a couple of times.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see Shawn do so well - though I found it odd at how many skaters touched their hands down after jumps in this competition.
i really struggled with the 'gets the girl' part. how can they say that with a, pardon the pun, straight face?
ReplyDeleteI struggled with the 'get the girl' comment too. I can't believe how bad these commentators are. Where's Kurt. Anyway they really have blinders on. ReplyDeleteI'll have to join the crowd in hailing Shawn Sawyer. Love him!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kurt was terrible too. He called Moore-Towers/Moskovitch one of the fastest, most dynamic teams he'd ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI guess kurt is just as lost in the Canadian fog as the rest but he seems more knowledgeable and thank God he doesn't count the revolution of spins.

ReplyDeletePatrick Chan scored almost 200 in the free and I nearly barfed on command...

Samson won't go very far, but I rather like watching her for some reason.
