Erm, I'm not here to defend Georgia's scoring (which last week was ok, and this week was ridiculous) but Hollie Vise scored 9.925-9.95 multiple times last year with a double tuck dismount...
You can't fault the gymnast for the 10.0-system--which I prefer for NCAA competition but not elite international competition. However, that's a downside.
It may be out of 10, but most gymnasts not named Vise have trouble breaking a 9.9 ending with a double tuck in combination. I actually thought Hollie Vise was overscored at times, but Hollie had a quality on bars that is on a completely different level than Lindsey Cheek. Cheek is a good gymnast who deserves the praise she is getting, but that bar routine didn't deserve a 9.925. Hell, that's the same score that Kat Ding got.
The scoring was ridiculous, and it became a joke by floor exercise. Mariel Box going 9.925 with 3 passes consisting of a whip/double tuck, 2 front layouts, and a whip/ double twist to close may be one of the worst overscores I have seen in a while.
There are literally hundreds of gymnasts that perform a double tuck dismount in combination with a giant full in the NCAA, I would challenge you to find any outside of Georgia that have scored above a 9.85.
Nothing against Lindsey Cheek who performed phenomenally, but scoring at Georgia is a joke. Makes you wonder if the rumors of Suzanne having the judges in her pocket are true...
Only at Georgia can you score a 9.925 with a double tuck dismount on bars.

ReplyDeleteIt's important to note the the double tuck is done in combination with a full pirouette.
ReplyDeleteHollie Vise is brilliant and deserved that score.
ReplyDeleteGoes to show that some gymnasts do get better with age. And that Jay Clark is no slouch as a bar coach.

Jay Clark is a great bars coach, but Lindsey Cheek has only been at Georgia a couple of weeks, he's not that good.
