Podium Training Highlights

USAG is being cool for one of the first times in history. Someone give Luann Peszek a raise! They have posted a short highlights reel from podium training. If they post an interview with Martha, it will make my life. I long to hear that Hungarian-Romanian accent in my life. Please note that the term 'highlights' is being used liberally, as the first clip shown is Aly Raisman on bars.

Now, for a real highlight, a video of He Kexin's bar routine from podium training:

  1. He Kexin is finally eligible for Worlds!! She looks great!

  2. HA! Did you see Valeri's face when Bross lost her footing on that double leg turn? Classic.

  3. Did Mo Huilan's choreography do Bross' FX? That was all sorts of awkward...and not even a funky chicken to boot.

  4. C.X.Z. - good question! At least Mo had lovely form and was super charming. I want Courtney McCool to teach Bross how to twist on floor...and I want Valeri to give her more appropriate music. Becca B. is not Elena Naimushina.

  5. Becca Bross isn't even awkward... She just has been given the most awkward floor routine of all time. Give her better choreography and she'll execute it well.

As for the tumbling, she didn't even tumble at camp, so it's surprising she's doing all 4 events. Good for her for fighting though it. Hopefully she's not in too much pain.

  6. Bross has always been awkward on floor. Anonymous appears to be the biggest Polly Positive ever. I suspect a giant USA flag is tattooed on her ass. Rebecca Bross' knees and floor routine are unacceptable, but I do appreciate her work ethic and consistent diet.

Bross is certainly more diligent about her training than Bridget Sloan. I have a feeling we may see an epic meltdown from her in prelims, which she may blame on 'injuries.' Then Martha can replace her with Chelsea Davis for team finals and have Davis do bars.

  7. Should we put a fork in Bridget and send her to NCAA's? I recall she used to be have a super awesome work ethic but then I guess she's getting senioritis early.

Aly Raisman looks fugly as ever, her bars I'm used to cringing at but her beam was looking sloppy as well. I just can't enjoy her gymnastics, she just seems so immature and unpolished.

Mattie has me worried, she never seems to have enough energy at the end of her routines anyway and the rock hard European floor isn't doing her any favors in that department. And Brossy has always been an ackward mess on floor but now she's also a hot mess on floor (is it Janssen Fritsen?), she could barely get her passes around.

  8. Bross just needs more practice time with her passes. I think she'll be fine. It is interesting that she isn't attempting her usual final pass.

I expect that Mattie will pull through and hit floor, vault and bars. I'm expecting a fall from her or major breaks on beam.

  9. Ugh, Bross is just awful. Amen to what Amanda said, Naimushina (or Dudnik) she is not.

  10. Raisman's bars are bad, but I do like that she's not a headcase. At least she can be counted on to get up and hit a routine cold on any apparatus, which is more than most of the other girls can say.

  11. Wow, you are all such critics. These young ladies have worked their tail of for years for this opportunity. Bross has overcome an akward set of legs to become one of the best in the world. Raisman was an absolute rock in beam warmups...I would rather put a solid routine up there than a talented head case. Her strong mind will take her far in life. Let these young gymnasts take it all in and enjoy the moment for a bit.

  12. the alternate should be sloan vs. davis. the one gymnast who can bring the higher bars score should go to prelims.

  13. briget decided to take 2010 easy. if u dont work hard, u wont be prepared. and unprepared she is

  14. you people that are all rainbows, chocolate ice cream, and fuzzy bunnies OBVIOUSLY don't understand the point of this blog. some of us take these sports seriously and like to critique the athletes. and as for gymnastics, some of us are FUCKING SICK of mediocre routines, mediocre composition, and mediocre performances. how can you fault us for having high standards? i think you, anon @6:30, should keep your motheresque attitude to yourself. it just reeks of dithering, maternal joy and pride. UGH.

  15. Bross fought through and was fierce in spite of injuries. Sloan delivered her bars TF and all her Q sets as well. Larson fucked up twice in a row and showed how immature she was by begging for a second chance when she knew from practice that she was not performing well. Ali did pretty well except for that one bars set in AA finals. Definitely a vital team contributor and should have medalled on FX (that was the set of her life...the judges were just being shenanigany).
