This and That

Mirai Nagasu spoke with Lifeskate back in April at Figure Skating In Harlem. It is obvious that her parents have hypnotized after going from 1st to 7th at Worlds, "I will listen to Frank Carroll. He knows all. I will listen to Frank Carroll. He knows all."

Adam Rippon and Christina Gao are well-known gal pals. They've both updated their journals. Adam Rippon talks about his summer training and new programs. Christina Gao reflected on Skate Detroit and announced that she will compete as a junior in Ontario this weekend to debut her junior free skate.

Universal Sports will broadcast last year's Nationals on Wednesday. Their coverage of Nationals begins on Thursday. Nastia Liukin and John Roethlisberger will host a Pre-Show from 6:30-7:00 PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They will host a Post-Show from 9:00-9:30 PM on Thursday and Saturday and from 10:00-10:30 on Friday. Given their commentary prowess, it should be a total wet blanket with loads of awkward comments made and questions asked to athletes. Johnny R will also likely repeat the full names of gymnasts over and over again. "Bridget Sloan coming up on beam. Bridget Sloan is the reeeiiiiggggnnnnning VISA Champion from 2009."

Sarah and Drew posted a new blog on Ice Network. They interviewed Tom Z and he said that he and Rachael Flatt have a goal of reaching the world podium this year. Hey, girls can dream!
They also revealed that Naomi Nari Nam recently got married.

Madison Chock and Greg Zuerlein will be getting a new free dance. The powers that be loved their short dance but hated their free. Their short dance is to the music of 'Milord' and 'Padam Padam' by Editf Piaf. Kristi Yamaguchi used Milord as her exhibition at the 1992 Olympics.

Rachael Flatt's long program is to the music of 'Slaughter on Fifth Avenue," which is a perfect title for how her skating makes us feel. Apparently Rachael's mother (and only fan) posted on FSU about how it is such a testament to her work ethic that she is even competing right now. Maybe eating two weeks worth of pasta in Italy isn't the best thing for those triple jumps? Just saying.

  1. Rachael has a goal of reaching the Worlds podium this year?

And I thought Ashley was supposed to be the arrogant one...

  2. I'm no Flatt fan, but a goal is different than expecting something to happen.

  3. You're so cruel toward Rachel.

  4. Has anyone ever won anything skating to the music that Rachael chose?

  5. It is considered to be ''the kiss of death'' music.

  6. Some people do like Rachael. I would ease up a little. She's trying to do her best with what she has.

  7. Tara actually wanted her to use Shae Lynn Bourne to add some entertainment value to her programs, but her mom made her stick with Lori Nichol. It'll be the same old blahhing us along this season.

  8. Shae would have been nice, but what is Tara doing suggesting choreographers for her skaters anyway. Maybe it was an added expense the Flatts didn't want.

  9. A pre-show with Nastia and Johnny R will probably be somewhat painfully awkward, but it's nice to see Nastia staying involved while unable to compete.

Well Tara might have been asked about it and just gave her opinion.
Choosing Shae wouldn't have been an added expense cause she's more affordable than Lori.

  11. Lori is $10,000 for a long program.

  12. Mirai certainly has turned into a beautiful young woman. she looks so much more mature here and even her manner of speaking is no longer the giggly school girl so much. I can't wait to see the result of listening to Frank all summer.

    How much is Shae?

  15. If you read the interview with Zakrajsek on Ice Network...the quote is from him. Drew and Sarah did not interview Flatt. Maybe that is Zakrajsek's goal...he has yet to have a medalist at the World level. I am sure Rachael has her own set of goals...and as we all know, Zakrajsek is very capable of sharing his opinions with others.

In regards to choosing a choreographer.... I suspect each skater finds someone they are comfortable working and learning from. Flatt has worked with a variety of choreographers over the years including Tom Dickson, Christopher Dean, Damon Allen, Nichol. I think Zakrajsek plays a pretty big role in who his skaters work with...Gilles, Zawadski and Mroz have all worked with Nichol.
