the only reason why Bitch Kline rybacki can call herself an olympian today is because of the boycott. If there was not a boycott, others who quit would have made the team. She would not have finished in the top 15.
Wow, what viciousness towards Beth.. What did she ever do to you? Fact of the matter is, she competed and competed well enough to make the team against whom was there..
Carter, you jackass --- you stole everyone's dreams, and for what?? For what? These athletes were punished for something they had no control over. On top of that, USSR didn't leave Afghanistan until 1989. Worst president EVER.
thanks for sharing this. They played it on the screen at the arena but I couldn't see from my seat- I could see all the team tearing up though so I wanted to see it!
How sad for the athletes that politics robbed them of their Olympic dream. The sad part is that the US athletes were strong enough to medal at Moscow. :( Seems like the best way to stick it to the Soviets would have been to beat them on their own turf. Jesus, you know Ron Galimore would have out-vaulted everyone and then some!

ReplyDeleteI thought Beth was only the alternate, no?
ReplyDeleteOn another note, she still looks young and pretty.
