Olympic Trials Podium Training Videos

I've needed these bitches in my life.  It has been too long since Nationals.  My inner Russian wants Gabby to get her back leg up on that switch ring.

Did ASac ditch the mount combo? #realitycheck #frontdoublefullmyass

Who is on your team?  Your alternates?

Bross' leap of death

Dowell

Finnegan

Li

Liukin...get the Svedka  (Beam dismount much higher)

Maroney

  1. The team remains unchanged unless someone melts down under the pressure or get hurt: Wieber, Raisman, Douglas, Ross and Maroney.

Maroney looks to be okay thankfully. She has to Amanar to be selected though(ready or not this is a reality). Raisman and Wieber are going as is Douglas unless she falls apart. Aside from Maroney with the concussion the most pressure is on Ross, especially if her Amanar is not back. Sloan, Sacramone, Liukin and Bross are all veteran vultures circling to clean her carcass if she falters. Price is also a factor as she becomes especially appealing if Maroney is not well enough to deliver on vault. I love Finnegan, but she does not appear to be ready for this level. She has been screwed by this absurb age restriction that allows athletes to become senior in an Olympic year.

  2. I have to say I never really looked at maroney on anything but vault and floor. That being said, her beam sucks.

  3. All of Gabby's leaps on beam are shitt. It's sad, but it's the only way she's confident enough to stay on.

Kind of like how Raisman does all her leaps like shitt, but never falls.

    1. Um excuse me? Gabby's leaps are not shit. You need glasses.

    2. Yes they are. She doesn't even hit 180.

    3. umm, don't know what videos you look at, but she def. hits 180. make a real critique or none at all.

    4. Anon at 3:41 - You need to get your eyes checked.

    5. Her leaps definitely hit 180, but that switch ring is really just not very nice. I, am a big Gabby fan, actually, but that switch ring...

  4. When she hits, Bross is arguably (and probably) the top beamer in the US. If only she didn't have to dismount... And she's just as good as Ross on bars. If/when Bross doesn't make this team and loses a bars/beam spot to Ross, let's all blame Valeri for not teaching that kid a new dismount in the past three years.

And I imagine Nastia's beam dismount is higher when she does it without the full routine before it.

  5. My ideal team would be Wieber, Raisman, Douglas, Sacramone, and Liukin. Alternates: Finnegan, Ross

    1. Wow I never even thought of that team, and the funny thing is it would actually work! Assuming Sac has a floor routine just in case.

I was always ambivalent about Nastia making the team, I wouldn't really care one way or the other but I think it would be kind of awesome if she made the team just to see the gym-internet EXPLODE and then collapse on itself

And also to see the Shawn reaction shots in London while Nastia is competing.

It probably wont happen, but whatever

    2. True, it probably won't happen, but I'd be excited if it did! Alicia would have to have a floor routine just as a back up but I'd rather see Alicia in team finals on beam than douglas, maroney, or ross. Maroney deserves to go and be the Hatch of 2012, but there are only 5 spots and realistically, she'll only be used for Vault. That leaves the beam line-up less than ideal.

Yes, Nastia isn't where she should be to prove that she's ready to go yet, but maybe we'll be surprised this weekend.

Have to admit..this has to be one of the more exciting lead ups to the games in several years!!

    3. I don't ever wanna see ASac on the BB during the Olympics Team Final... I havent forgotten 2008... Ross, Raisman and Wieber are the girls doing BB...

  6. My sentimental favorite - Anna Li on bars - so clean & beautiful. But it will be Raisman of course who will bore the heck out of us with her steady thud thud thud & funky leaps. Wieber - another steady one who will bore us all. Douglas will go - at least her bars are fun. Maroney for vault - if she still has it. And Ross I guess - but another boring one. I click off the videos halfway through every time - just nothing there. But it's this code of points - just connecting clunky trick after clunky trick. I like Finnegan but too green. Liukin needs another 6 months. Sloan is ready for college. And poor Bross - almost hopes she squeezes out Ross.

  7. Maroney's timer on the podium was making me nervous! So much power so little podium after the mat. Im really hoping for Nastia or Alicia or Anna Li or Bross. Otherwise the team will be so boring/generic. I thought I was a bad gymnastics fan for only watching half or just skipping the videos of Ross. And sometimes even Wieber. I need some Divas! I thought Alicia and Nastia's beam were much improved.

  8. Maroney's Amanar (just uploaded) looks amazing. The landing in podium training was better than it has been in a long time.

    1. It looks great! If she lands it like that at the Olympics and doesn't get a 16.4 there is no justice in the world. Seriously, what is wrong it? In Team finals in Tokyo they took almost 5 tenths off!

    2. I've felt that her vault gets seriously underscored internationally. The TF score was just silly.

    3. I think Maroney has a SLIGHT pike in her hips and sometimes slightly bent knees. She also sacrifices a little bit of distance for height. So I can understand 5 tenths off. The problem is when they overscore gross Amanars like Raisman's.

  9. Alicia has done great to recover so well, but she is about back to her 2011 level on beam and vault....which is not good enough. Her connection on the switch+back tuck is poor and she needs to connect her punch front to the handspirng 2 foot layout to remotely have a shot and we know it won't happen.

The athletes who actually have a chance to shake things up are Price and Bross, who should be alternates at least.

Liukin is also in the race due to her resume, but even if she can put together a bar routine, it would be a huge mistake to take her. Her composition is similar to that of some of the top Chinese athletes who have been getting hammered throughout the quad. Her form is not even as good. I highly doubt she could go 15+ with a hit routine in London on bars. Her E-scores in the US have been and will be GROSSLY inflated. I just hope that Marta realizes this and is giving Nastia a chance to not end her career as poorly as she would have if he was done after nationals and as Memmel had too. Perhaps Marta will take her as an alternate to give her more time and her a chance to show that even the defending Olympic AA champ can only make her team as an alternate this time.

Finnegan's nationals was too weak, Sloan and Li have only one event. Everyone else has zero chance, so no need to discuss.
