    2. What is wrong with you? This will be the single most important thing in her life. Is their nothing in you to allow a kid to enjoy the moment.....for goodness sakes after all the hard hours in the gym, she is entitled to be as "retarded" as she wants.

  3. She is adorable. She is genuine. Once Sheryl Shade gets her media blitz, it will all be yes mam, but one thing is for sure, You cannot scrub away getto. I look forward to the days when she will gain 290 lbs, have 5 kids hanging off her saggy breasts, have no idea who the baby daddies are, waiting for the welfare checks.

    1. Word. I would bask in their bitter tears and racist whining as she went on a media tour and grinned and giggled and was hyper as she raked in buckets of cash.

  5. Some of the comments about Douglass are downright racist. She's a fabulous gymnast who doesn't follow the robotic interview playbook of Wieber, Raisman, and some of the other girls who answer with the same USA Gymnastics talking points. The fact that people are repulsed by this is really shocking. She's a 16 year old girl with spunk and personality. She doesn't deserve the vitriol.

  6. She is a breath of fresh air. I honestly think now after watching that video that she could be the media darling of the olympics. She has a raw unfettered style. She is much more interesting to watch then someone who says they are all about the team, and want to support each other, and her teammates are her best friends ever. Yawn.

    1. ITA, as much as I liked Kwan's skating, it was ridiculous of her to say she just wanted to have fun and she doesn't think about medals and then goes on to say she wanted to be remembered for a 1,000 years but thinks you can only be remember for that long if you win... so it's nice to see gabby admit she wants to win! we need more svetlana's

  7. I've never done this before, comment on a gymnastics blog, but in light of some of the above comments I think now is the time to give it a go. I read this blog often because I like the writing, AJ & Co are hilarious, informative, and down right enjoyable. However, when I read the comment sections I am always sickened and saddened by the nature of the remarks made, particularly about Women's Gymnastics. I enjoy snark and sarcasm as much as the next gal, but to write these nasty, racist, unfounded epithets about an extremely gifted child (that's the key word, child) begs a little rebuttal. So, @Anon 4:15, do us all a favor and take a long drive off a short cliff. I mean, seriously, is your existence so pathetic that you wile away the hours penning poorly constructed racial slurs about a little girl? Spew your poison somewhere else, loser. Gabby Douglas is a star, and will continue to thrive, in and out of gymnastics, while you sit in the cybernetic light chucking out trite garbage, wishing your little life wasn't quite so lame.

    1. Thank you for this and of course the cherry on top of the complete and utter patheticness of Anon 4:15 is the fact that they are a coward. There is a specal place in hell for those who ANONYMOUSLY post racial slurs at teenagers in a blog comment section. So Anon 4:15 I suggest you dust the cheetoh crumbs off of your caftan, pull your morbidly obese body away from the monitor, get out of your parents basement and find something more productive to do with your life.

    2. Definitely true that neither Anon@4:15 nor anybody else is anonymous to the Lord. "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment." Matthew 12:36

  10. I can not wait to see if after all of this is over, will Douglas be Chow's most successful olympian yet?

  11. What I find so amazing is that all the comments here (not only on this thread) are accusing Gabby Douglas of not being genuine, or of faking enthusiasm (I'm not even going to touch the disgusting racism of many of the comments). Umm, have you ever WATCHED women's gymnastics? For decades interviews with gymnasts have been a stream of the completely not genuine, pre-scripted, monotonously repeated crap about work and focus and the team and how oh, yes, I fell and ruined my chances of achieving the only thing I have ever worked for, but no, no, everything is fine really. I, personally, love this girl and find her enthusiasm genuine and refreshing, but even if she's faking it, I'm still just glad to see somebody faking enthusiasm for once, and having some intonation in their voice, as opposed to the cookie cutter "gymnast interview". Even if it's fake it's refreshing.

  12. For god's shake, if you don't like the way she speaks in her interveiws DON'T WATCH IT. Go and watch Raisman and Wieber instead and hear them saying how hard they've worked, how they're like sisters and how they want to hit 4/4. If she wasn't interviewing like that people would be complaining that she's boring. Why shouldn't she be excited? She pretty much went from zero to hero, people thought her career was over after last year's VISA and now not only she's competing at trials but she's competing with a great possibilty to WIN this and she IS going to the olympic games. I would be as excited as it gets

  13. AJ--I believe you should take a stand against the racism that often appears in the comment section of your posts. Such comments are, to put it mildly, disgusting and inappropriate. Thank you.
