With so many sloppy gymnasts medaling at major international events, it is refreshing to see Koko Tsurumi continue to succeed. She gives us a reason not to give up on the sport.
I just love this gymnast. She is my favorite gymnast. I just wish she had a stronger vault........ although it is really cool that she is winning medals with a weak vault.
Since Beijing, Japan has become one of my favorite teams for the same reason that you love Koko Tsurumi - lovely form and clean execution. I give them--and their coaches, especially--major props for bucking the trend of difficulty at all costs (no matter how shitty it looks) in favor of slightly simpler but prettier gymnastics.
becauseofitall - some gymnasts choose not to use grips for various reasons (although some might want to use grips but can't afford them). I'm pretty sure that Sveta never used grips, and I think that a number of Chinese gymnasts over the years have chosen to forgo grips. They seem to be a North American/European phenomenon. (To anyone reading this - please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!)

ReplyDeleteI think she needs to run a little faster into her passes and leaps.
ReplyDeleteHow is she doing her bar routine without grips? Was it normal for gymnasts not to use grips?
ReplyDeleteHow tall is she ? She is sooo tiny!
ReplyDeleteshe has great lines...but like all gymnasts from this quad her choreography sucks!
