Nastia Update
Nastia may have seemed out of place schilling for Subway on The Biggest Loser, but that didn't stop NBC's Dallas/Fort Worth affiliate from interviewing the Olympic Gold Medalist. Sure, they ask her about her experience on the show, but it is the B-Roll of her training that is most impressive. Nastia's body is starting to come back after just a few weeks in the gym. Nastia already looks better than she did during her Worlds commentary and her skills aren't far off. Given she has a ways to go before she is back in competition shape, the HBIC doesn't look far behind Shawn Johnson. In many ways, she looks better than she did during her half-assed effort at 2009 Nationals.

I LOVE COMEBACKS!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see Nastia make a comeback! The bars lineup actually could be pretty decent now with Nastia mounting a comeback, Bross, and surprisingly Wieber who seems to be constantly upgrading, without even taking into account Sloan, Wofford, or Douglas.
ReplyDeleteWhat BS. Where is the name calling for Nastia practicing in pants and a shirt and doing shit skills?
ReplyDeleteShe has not lost weight at all. She is still the same size. She is not fat for normal people but for a gymnast she is still fat.
You are a hypocrite Aunt Joyce or which ever guest friend you have writing this week.
Nastia seems to be losing some of the puffiness she acquired in her face after gaining weight following the Games. She is starting to look better and barring injury God-forbid she should be in competitive shape in a few months. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Nastia's face is way less puffy than its been in a while. When she does her Onodi on beam her shirt shows a flat stomach (no 6 pack yet) but she looks like she'll be back to her normal form way sooner than expected (or sooner than I expected).
ReplyDeleteHer beam looks more secure than it did in 2009---even in training.
ReplyDeleteWAH! Video isn't available in my "country" :[
ReplyDeleteIn both her and Shawn's comeback videos, they both have on leggings and t-shirts. Makes me think neither of them are in as great of shape as other people are speculating and they're trying to hide their less-than-Olympic-Shape bodies.
ReplyDeleteDoes being in the past Olympics mean you get to be the only person in the gym not in a leotard? I just don't get that. Why are you practicing in loose t-shirts that you have to consistently adjust after each skill? It just makes you look less serious than every other athlete working out next to you. Or that you think that you're above them. I'm not convinced. Yet.
The Soviets always trained in loose T-shirts and leggings.
ReplyDeleteperhaps they just don't want to have to wax as often as they'd need to if they trained in leotards now that they've gone through puberty. Also having a more "mature' body they possibly just don't feel as comfortable wearing leotards quite yet. At the end of the day who really gives a crap what they wear in training!?!
ReplyDeleteI agree, AJ. Her beam looks much more secure than 2009.
ReplyDeleteBodywise, she's looking good, but do you think she'll ever be as slim as 2008? She may have to adjust her gymnastics with a few extra pounds and I think she could do it.

Such a childish rant. Grow up 'Anonymous'. It's not that big of a deal. If it means that much to you rest assured you'll see BOTH Shawn and Nastia in leotards soon enough. Good grief.
@OlympicsEffect Yes you are right-the Soviets did indeed train in t-shirts and leggings and I have old gym books showing Nadia and her training mates in the same. It's no big deal. I don't see why some people here seem to be so hung up on such a trivial thing. Nastia and Shawn are young women now and they've got the bods to show it. Too call either young woman 'fat' is just plain ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where you're getting that Nastia's beam looks "secure." I also don't think her comeback is anywhere near the shape that Shawn's is currently. Nastia did a side somi and an Onodi in this vid... that's it. BB was always her easiest event, so don't count your pizza-faced Olympic AA champs before they're hatched.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. How can that girl not be on Proactiv? If fucking Justin Spring can do it...
No reason to comment on a girl's skin. A lot of young women have acne issues. And Nastia would look fine in a leotard. Maybe she just prefers wearing her Olympic garb until she's in the great shape she wants to be in.
ReplyDeletei seem to remeber her wearing t-shirt and pants in some of the att&t training videos she did before the olympics.
ReplyDeleteI saw Nastia live at the skating show in October, and she looks MUCH skinnier now. I would say she's lost at least 10 lbs., so STFU whoever said she didn't lose any weight. Plus she's smart to be taking it slow. Why does she need to be doing her harder tumbling at this point? If she's really catching layout Jaegers on UB, then her comeback is for real. You go girl.
