Junior Worlds Update

Agnes continues her struggles with the short at Jr Worlds.  A year ago, she was one of the most consistent skaters in the world.  This year, we just haven't seen her put together two programs as well as she can.  If she left her coach now, she could be competitive with the other Russians by 2014. Imagine if Frank could pit Agnes and Mirai against one another.

After the short program, Sotnikova and Tuktamysheva are 1-2.  Gao made a statement by placing third.

  1. I think Agnes has been doing pretty well. Last year, nobody knew who the hell she was and she probably didn't expect to medal at her first international. Everything was simple. This year, she comes in as the defending silver medalist, and it was her first year on the GP circuit... More expectations, and you can't expect to hit everything every time.

Don't tease, Auntie. I'll start to get hopeful!

  3. You can expect someone to hit at least once. She has shown enormous cracks in her mental armor this season.

Lots of skaters at this level deal with pressure. Its the ones who learn how to handle the pressure that become champions. Do you really think Agnes was the only skater here with pressure and expectations. The pressure on Sotnikova had to have been huge. Both Adelina and Elizaveta have been dealing with hype and pressure for years. Sotnikova is getting more and more attention in Russia considering she's a 2 Senior National champ.

What you expect those is for the ones who are to become champions, to learn how to channel the pressure and compete.. One bad skate like Tukt's at her first JGP is understandable. But you expect skaters to learn to handle it eventually.

  6. Why can't you see that Carroll sucks at ladies because his ladies by in large can't jump right?

  7. His ladies come to him with technique issues that are hard to undo.

  8. Um, okay, but it's Agnes's first year Senior and she's 16 years old. If she blew every program this year, it really wouldn't matter. Growing pains. But she did a great LP at Jr Worlds so good for her!!

  9. I will add that everyone handles pressure differently and learns at their own rate. Just because Sotnikova is handling it fine doesn't mean everyone is going to respond the same way. Sotnikova is a very special skater and there are a lot of other skaters that need more time than she does to get used to competing at this level.
