Jesolo (Seniors)

Results

It looks like Bridgey Caquatto was the designated alternate, but competed exhibition everywhere.  It is reported that she finished 6th AA.  Not a good meet for Douglas who won camp to earn a trip to Italy.  Amanda Jetter looks like she has some sort of minor injury (shocking.)

McKayla Maroney won the AA.

  1. I'm interested to see if Raisman made any errors, because with Wieber falling on floor (I'm assuming) and Maroney's low D-scores on 3 events, I'm thinking a clean Raisman should have been able to win. Must have been some errors somewhere.

  2. Those bar scores are painful. If Russia or China ever hit a bar rotation at Worlds, the US could lose like 3-4 points on that event alone. We are so heavily reliant on Bross on bars, it's ridiculous.

  3. Douglas has great start values though, according to the results - she apparently need a little more time to get things consistent, but a 6.2 on bars and beam (and I'm assuming she didn't get everything credited there) and a 6.0 on floor can't be ignored, especially if she gets an Amanar.

  4. Agree about painful bars scores--even though Caquatto wasn't officially competing she still "won" bars.

Raisman really needs to get her Amanar sorted out in order to be competitive. She had the top scores at this meet on beam and floor [tied with Vega] and still only scraped 3rd. You can get by with being a 3-event gymnast but you can't be a 2-event gymnast.

  5. Maroney's got low SV but her form's cleaned up a lot at AOGC. Douglas came into the meet with a possible SV of 6.7 but only received a 6.2 possibly didn't get full SV credited code gurus guessed that judges didn't give her eGR as a series for her front Aeriel connected to a back full

  6. This may be a stupid question, but why are we screwing around at this rinky-dink Jesolo meet when there's a world cup meet in Paris?

  7. brg09...I've been wondering the same thing for the last three years or so. We pretty much sweep every single year. Is this just a way to stroke Marta's ego and that of USAG, or give the girls a false sense of confidence? I'm not saying they didn't do well, but they obviously have never had to put up much of a fight. Farting around at these "friendly" competitions serves no purpose - they need to be out there learning how to handle pressure and nerves in a REAL competition. It's like sending Venus Williams out to play someone ranked No. 60. What's the frigging point??

  8. @brg09 - because marta prefers team comps rather than individual ones

  9. Hopefully things will change once Valeri takes the reins from Marta.

  10. Only one currently active US gymnast is qualified for the Paris competition (Raisman FX). And Martha loves team competition.

  11. I thought Sacramone had quaified for vault?

  12. Sacramone could've gone for vault, but she didn't even go to camp because Martha told her to stay home and rest her injuries.

  13. wouldn't Valeri have to give up coaching his gymnasts at WOGA in order to take over from Marta, it really seems unlikely to me?!?

  14. Marta probably thinks having the girls compete in a team setting is the best way to prepare for Team Finals at Worlds. Plus, you can't just send 14 USA girls to the Paris meet. A competition like Jesolo is one of the only ones where Marta can bring almost every girl she has. It is lame though, but so are the Pan Am competitions, etc.

  15. A 6.2 start value doesn't mean anything if the execution score is in the 7s. Unless Bridget Sloan gets back in action, Nastia can come back in time, or Mattie Larson makes some solid upgrades, we are going to be using two of these girls in Team Finals at Worlds on bars. :: shudder ::

  16. Jeez-- how many coaches do they really need to send? Looks like there's more coaches than gymnasts!

  17. Of course the US can't send 14 gymnasts to Paris. The question is why was it thought necessary to send Raisman (who was eligible to compete in Paris) to Jesolo. The US seniors would still have won Jesolo by a mile even if Raisman had compted in Paris. I am not sure I buy into the idea that a team meet like this is the best way to prepare for team finals for two reasons. First this is not the likely US team line up since both Sacramone and Bross must be regarded as locks if fit and possible Sloan also, again if fit. Second winning a team meet against dud opposition is not really preparation for anything except being surprised at how good real opposition might be!
