Junior Worlds Conclude
Ms. Adelina Sotnikova won the Junior World Title, as expected. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva was second. Agnes Zawadzki moved up to capture the bronze and Christina Gao had a disappointing free skate to finish fourth overall. Risa Shoji was fifth, Courtney Hicks sixth and Polina Shelepen was seventh. Hopefully, we have seen the end of Shelepen's fugliness...as this has not been a good year, nor was the second half of last season.

Sotnikova's triple-triple is so amazing. And her 2A-3T looks amazing too
ReplyDeleteJust checked and Mao scored 179 in 05 when she won jr worlds and Yuna scored 177 in 06 when she won..
ReplyDeleteWhat does it matter and besides you can't compare scores from 5/6 years ago.

ReplyDeleteMen's silver medalist, his name is Keiji Tanaka, not Kenji Tanaka.
His name's meaning is detective with Japanese. His parents told why they gave him this name. Because he won't be able to do bad things and it is easy to remember for Japanese people.
man can Agnes jump! now she'll probably think tom's a genius and stay with him forever.
ReplyDeleteIs Sotnikova capable of doing footwork?
ReplyDeleteJudging by this routine the answer would be 'no'.
Rogozine is awful. Skate Canada crack indeed.
ReplyDeleteAnon at 1:46...what ARE you talking about?
ReplyDeleteSotnikova just needs better choreography. It has nothing to do with ability. She is obviously a fine performer, she just needs stronger programs.
ReplyDeleteDoes Mother Russia no longer require ballet study from her skaters? Sooo many ugly positions!

ReplyDeleteExcepting when Sotkinova jumps in the air it looks like she has bricks in her shoes.
Sotkinova, very impressive. Huge jumps. Courtney Hicks has very poor skating skills and weak musicality. She has been winning almost everything as she came up through the ranks in SoCal so actually seeing her now is kind of disappointing.
ReplyDeleteTuktamysheva could be Johnny Weir's little sister. The resemblance is quite striking. I wonder if he has met the little princess yet?
ReplyDeleteGao looked unconfident right away. not surprised she did not skate her best. good thing she didn't make the team this year. obviously not ready.
Gao still tops them all in star quality.
ReplyDeleteGao star quality? are you being sarcastic?
ReplyDeleteto me she looks very uncomfortable on the ice with her movements and has no expression, she is older than the russians but looks less polished, well i guess maybe she is a late bloomer.
Despite the same music, same costumes, and same coach, I am completely mystified by the Courtney Hicks- Sasha Cohen comparisons now that I've seen Hicks. They are completely different skaters. Hicks is athletic, but there is no flow to her skating, little flexibility, and no musicality. She's 15 and can work on it, but for now, she's very Juniorish. The way she positions her arms in her jumps is unorthodox, but she gets them done. It's everything else that needs work. I like her invented spin though.
ReplyDeleteSotnikova should get 'e' on her Flutz.
ReplyDeleteJudges need to open their eyes.
"Sotnikova should get 'e' on her Flutz."
ReplyDeleteI think so.
Although I liked Courtney's spins I didn't get the hype about her after she won juniors nationals. Now that everyone has seen her up against the other skaters from other countries they see how she pales in comparison especially if the others skate clean. There is no comparing Courtney to Sasha.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering how uncomfortable Brian must've been in Korea. He used to be a big star and I don't know what kind of reception he's gotten now. Maybe his discomfort rubbed off on his student. Just guessing.
ReplyDeleteorser was never a star in korea. if he thought that way,
ReplyDeleteit's his big mistake. koreans respected him only because he was yuna,s coach. if he shut his big mouth, he would be respected as before. i think he is totally knob.
once loser, always loser.
I think the brick-shoe look is caused by those wretched over-the-boot tights. When did these become the style? Ugh!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Orser should keep quiet but I don't see how he's a loser. If you are thinking Olympics then that doesn't mean someone's a loser especially when they were robbed at at least one of those Olympics. Besides lucking out one day getting a OG doesn't mean anything. I'm not even a Orser fan but he is pretty much a legend with a very successful career on and off the ice.
ReplyDeleteThe universe doesn't revolve around Yuna, as much as the bots like to think so. Orser had an accomplished life before any association with Korea. He had a stellar amateur skating career followed by an equally impressive professional skating career. He's a teacher at a fine club. I do believe he won a couple of Olympic medals too.
ReplyDelete* Orser is of coarse a winner. (two OSM!)
ReplyDeleteBut mentally he looks 'a little' like a sore loser. (In this point he is different from Kwan, Kurt.)
* I enjoyed Sotnikova, Tuktamysheva, Zawadzki's performances. Love this 3 girls!
