This and That
Workout Wednesday with CGA on bars. It is amazing that MLT is as anal as ever, yet she lacks a bars girl at this time. Lexie is improving, but she doesn't have the open shoulder angle of Beckerman, Powell, Sapunar or even Priess. Kayla Williams may very well look much improved between the bar coaching at CGA and Alabama.
Chellsie Memmel didn't do bars today and fell on beam at camp. Unless she can pull a miracle out of her ass in two weeks, she is likely to be left off the World Team. Chellsie hasn't shown a bar routine at the level that the selection committee is looking for and they're going to go with Raisman's stability on vault, beam and floor. Amanda Jetter isn't at this camp. Bridget Sloan has been doing more than she showed in training at Nationals.
Volosozhar and Trankov
Ilinykh and Katsalapov's short dance (Hip-Hip-Chin-Chin.) Miss Russia has had a successful date with puberty, but their twizzles are still a mess.
Nanning, China will host the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Are you at camp? Where is your info from?
ReplyDeleteThere are always leaks from camp.
ReplyDeleteExactly what is Sloan doing?! How about ShawnyJ? AJ, what are your Pan AM team predictions?
ReplyDeleteI don't really do predictions. I've just heard Shawn looks like she is still in Nationals form/a little better.
ReplyDeleteHeard if Shawn is putting together full FX sets? She has Pan Am team captain written all over if she is just in nationals form.
ReplyDeleteJetter is injured and out of the running for Worlds. Sadly, with her improved bars and Bross injury, she actually had a shot. I wouldn't count Memmel out yet. Anna Li is a big risk at this point to throw into a Worlds and they'd have no back-up on bars.
ReplyDeleteLeonova skating to Adagio for Strings?? I have died in my soul.
ReplyDeleteWhat has humanity come to? Where is Matt Savoie when you need him?
Vega is going to be the alternate. If Anna Li makes it for bars, it isn't any different than taking Gabby Douglas. Gabby will fall apart and it could happen on any event. That balking doesn't happen at the elite level. That is something only Gael Mackie would do.
ReplyDeleteJetter's bars aren't improved enough to ever make a World Team. That is just silly.
If Memmel isn't doing bars now and hasn't put together a full set with a high enough D score, she isn't going to make the team. The US doesn't have that many options without Bross or Memmel able to do a bar routine. They need Sloan to drop ten pounds and get her routine up to snuff.
We do miss Matt Savoie...heartfelt pining for his contribution to skating.....
ReplyDeleteI just wish Matt Savoie learned to eye fuck the audience a bit. Those good edges went to waste with his face being so blah.
ReplyDeleteOh Lawdy, Maxim Trankov is a beast.
ReplyDeleteI/K's SD is so bland.
ReplyDeleteWould love to hear more about Sloan's routines shown in the training hall at Nationals AND those she's showing now. Does she look fit? Is she throwing full routines on all 4 routines? I know she said in interviews that she's like 90% back to normal which is great given that she still has a month left to go to peak as much as possible. My guess is that if she's even mediocre (for Sloan) that Marta's gona throw her on the team. She's proven herself time and time again and she's usable on all events not just one. Moreover, her bars start value is good.
ReplyDeleteAJ - did you see the pic of UCLA "reporting for 2012 season" .. what the fuck is Miss Val doing with 19 on her team?! Jesus! Nice to see Mattie larson has brought her smirk to Westwood. :) Also, how soon until Cassie Whitcomb "medically retires" I'll give her two years tops!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the balking incident, does anyone have video of Gabby Douglas on beam from day2? I've been wondering what was so awful about her routine since the NBC broadcast!
ReplyDeleteChellsie tweeted that she a "great workout today!" I call BS on that one.
ReplyDeleteGGMB is saying different about Chellsie... whats the true story?
ReplyDeleteNot lovin' V/T's program, but I am still a fan, to me they are the only top-flight skaters Russia has right now.
ReplyDeleteIs that their actual short program? Can pairs skate to vocal music now?
I really liked Tuktamysheva the first time I saw her (skating to some kind of breathless music) but looking at this - I am very disappointed. If nothing else she can safely go deer hunting in that costume.
I/K are sloppy and overrated.
ReplyDeleteSO over I/K.
ReplyDeleteMorozov has already ruined I/K
ReplyDeleteI/K are product of New Russia mentality of gloss over content. It's happening in other areas of formerly sacrosanct performing arts that Russians treasure, like ballet. So naturally it's spread to ice dancing too.
ReplyDeleteWhy would I/ K improve or learn to do proper twizzles when they know they're gonna be overscored and promoted like crazy? When you can't do even average twizzles at this level, you have no right being contenders for making last group let alone the podium.
Samuel Barber is turning over in his grave. And somewhere near Boston, Matt Savoie is drafting a law to prevent non-lyrical skaters from performing to Adagio for Strings.
ReplyDeleteLoving this from V&T! Thought their Black Swan free was a load of generic crap so this was a pleasant surprise in comparison. not sure why they haven't ripped off the vocals already - not sure it'll have the same impact without them.
ReplyDeleteI like this Tuktamysheva program... girl can groove... it's coming out as she gets older
