Listen to our
interview with the 2001 United States National Champion, 2002 Olympic bronze
medalist and two-time World Championship silver medalist, who shares his views
on the upcoming United States National Championships and the lessons he's
learned from the ups and downs of competing at the top of the sport and
experiencing the physical toll of being the Quad King.
wow. This is amazing and I can't turn it off. this is crack. so good!!!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to listen!! I live for The Skating Lesson Podcast!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was long, but I watched the whole thing. Such an honest interview.
ReplyDeleteTo quotes from him are so true.(1) "whoever at the board is crucial" This is not only true at the national level, it's even more true at the regional level.
(2)"Coached are very monetary diven", yes, especially the coaches in this country, they counts every minute and every second of their time.
You need to stop these stupid interviews. I have work to do and now I can't get it done because I have to listen to this:)
ReplyDeleteyou say "I guess" a LOT
ReplyDeleteWorking on my ticks! I also need to stop staying 'you know' when I'm about to ask a more hard-hitting question.
DeleteLOVING. EVERY. SECOND! Thank you SO much for starting this up.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great interview. Amazing what a scum ball Frank was with his contracts. Amazing that tim had to pay him for everything earned even after frank threw him to the curb. I thought it was incredible how he described as a third person how things went down between Frank and Kwan.
ReplyDeleteYeah maybe the contract thing was part of the issue because that is crazy that Frank gets stuff after Tim is no longer with him. What kind of contract is that.
DeleteThat was fantastic. I really appreciated Tim's honesty and ability to convey the struggles and drama and satisfaction, as well as the routine of training. Also, "arrogant" is probably the best description of Plushenko ever.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the person who said these interviews are dangerous-- I'm supposed to be working! But I watched the whole thing. I appreciate Tim's honesty and am amazed that people don't think of skating as a tough sport when some people are worn down by age 23.
ReplyDeleteAs for your "tics," saying "I guess" is a sign that you need a little more confidence, but interviewing people is really hard. You're already asking great questions, and you'll get better and better.
great work! Love the interviews!
ReplyDeleteWhat part of the interview was about Michelle Kwan? I don't have time to listen to it all but want to hear that part BADLY.
ReplyDeleteIt was in Part 4.
DeleteThanks
DeleteHold an edge and look sexy!!!
ReplyDeleteSo dishy! Love it! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteLove these interviews so far!
ReplyDeleteI finally had time to sit and listen to the whole interview - man, Goebel was a GREAT guest and you guys asked excellent questions. I really learned a lot about skating I didn't know and I have been watching it on TV for over 20 years.
ReplyDeleteSo thanks to you all - great job!
I know some think it's odd Frank would get money after Tim left but this goes on in many contracts where someone has helped a person get where they are today success wise. It is fair to an extent. Think of wives who stayed with husbands going to medical school and then got left.
ReplyDeleteI imagine there was a limit on the amount.
But Tim didn't initiate the split or breach the contract. That clause in the contract clearly benefitted Frank and doesn't give him incentive to continue coaching and do the work. It's not illegal, but it's definitely smarmy especially because Tim felt he had no choice but to sign.
DeleteGreat interview, really really enjoyed it. Excited to hear what Rudy has to say too!
Wow. This is astoundingly prophetic after this year's Nationals.
