Episode 3: An Interview with Rudy Galindo.
Apologies in advance, but there is no video this week. We had some 'boot problems,' and were unable to have the video. We hope you will still enjoy our interview with the 1996 United States Men's Champion, 1989 and 1990 United States Pairs Champion and perennial fan favorite on Champions on Ice about overcoming struggles, repairing relationships and self acceptance.
So far so good. I really don't like Rudy and his whining last year about the HOF pissed me off but I like how open he is in this video.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't play it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't play it either-do you have to have windows to play it? I'm currently on a mac...
ReplyDeleteWhen I clicked the link, the interview downloaded onto my computer and I was able to listen. But there appeared to be no streaming version -- can you find a way to make that happen?
ReplyDeleteIt was a great interview, even with no video. I enjoyed how forthcoming Rudy was about admitting to taking his additional 15 minutes of fame when the opportunities arose (being filmed when Kristi skated in the Olympics, articles responding to Johnny Weird, etc.). It was refreshing and kind of funny that he admitted it. He came off as honest and fun.
An idea for future interviews with skaters from Rudy's era: I'd love to hear more details about life on tour. Skating during the heyday of Champions on Ice sounds like an exciting and glamorous time; I'd love for a skater (and Jenny) to paint the picture of what this was like.
Played for me on a Mac. Loved it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, maybe you could put this on youtube with a few rotating photos of Rudy. That would be good.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't work for me. Could someone give me the Cliff's Notes?
ReplyDeleteBoth Rudy and Tim kept saying, "well Jenny, you know what it's like." I'd even like to hear an episode of The Skating Lesson that's just Dave interviewing Jenny. I think that'd be great.
ReplyDeletecouldn't find link to listen. :(
ReplyDeleteI can't listen to it, ither.
ReplyDeleteFor those who can't listen, I made it into a video using still photos. http://www.mediafire.com/?fohhhtmfk5nufhj 48MB

I also want you to ask every skater what their eating habits (or lack thereof) were like when they were competing. Let's get the horrifying details!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Too bad about video problems.
ReplyDeleteCan you interview a past ice dancer at some point? Especially someone who trained with Shpilband (like Naomi Lang or Jamie Silverstein). Their world seems quite different from that of pairs/singles.
I got half way through and it stopped. From what I have been reading I won't bother to try listening again.
ReplyDeleteThese interviews are the best being done in figure skating. I don't understand the attitude.
DeleteI loved the interview!! Rudy's perseverance is so inspiring and his Suzanne Bonaly stories are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these interviews with us. :)
I love these interviews! They really give all of us uberfans a look behind the curtain. I haven't heard or read any other interviews as candid. Keep it up, don't listen to the haters!
