A video update on Shawn Johnson.
Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin both had good showings at last week's training camp at the Karolyi Ranch. Shawn's natural strength is allowing her to do almost all of her skills already. While Shawn said she mostly did conditioning and limited skills, other coaches were impressed. Nastia did bars and beam at camp and her body is slimming down into form.
New photos of her from this weekend's Super Bowl festivities in Dallas show that the diva's svelte body is returning to form. Aunt Joyce is excited for both Olympic Champions, as the sport definitely could use their added interest and excitement! Martha and Kathy Kelly are imploring all of the gymnasts to master big combinations on bars and beam in order to make the World Team. If all goes as planned, the team will be a mix of veterans and newcomers.
yes, Nastia looks a lot more fit. I see papa's probably restricted her calorie intake to 500 a day. Seeing Voir and Marlie face off at 4CC will be interesting. no wonder Marlie looked so reserved at Nationals...they know what they are up against and know that Voir will use this opportunity to kick Marlie's butts again at Worlds.

ReplyDeleteRH of Round Lake - love it! Though I'm kinda creeped out that that these 16-18 are dressed this way on top of the beam... Marta would never allow team usa to do this though I'd pay to see that!! SJ is performing a new floor routine? I hope her DWTS time brings something new to her dance which was certainly lacking. NL is fitter - all is okay in the world again.
ReplyDeleteI think Shawn will make the Worlds team. Her double pike in that video is huge. I have no doubt she'll get all her '08 skills back by Classics, plus some new ones, especially on bars. Hopefully she'll kick some ass at the Worlds.

ReplyDeleteI'm so excited that D/W and V/M appear to be going to 4CC's. I think D/W's tango has improved by leaps and bounds over the season and the small music change at Nationals helped so much. And of course it will be great to see V/M's programs for the season.
Love to see some gymnastics and not just party pictures from Nastia...Shawn's got some mad skills back and she's being humble... I didnt used to like her gymnastics but I'm evolving that idea

ReplyDeleteAwesome to see Nastia back at camp... The party/celebrity stuff is nice, but I'm sure it gets old after a while. It's nice that the Superbowl stuff she has to do for VISA is right in Dallas. Just doing regular training again and not eating in restaurants so much (since she's traveling less) I'm sure is helping her get back in athlete's shape.
It will break my heart if shawn cant make it to worlds...im worried cuz weiber is basically a shawn but younger n fitter...shawn will hsvehave a chance if weiber cracks under pressure

I was never a Shawn fan, but I find it so inspiring and heartwarming when these kids make comebacks, not for anyone else, but just for themselves! Love it! Go Shawn and Nastia! No matter what happens, they've already succeeded just by trying.
ReplyDeleteShawn and Wieber can be on the same team you know. They aren't mutually exclusive. Especially on a 6 person team. Shawns main competition will probably be Alicia anyway mostly in 2012(if she makes it to then), thats why she needs her Amanar back.

If Shawn can get her amanar back, which is a big if, but still a possibility, that would be a very very strong team.
It looks like training is agreeing with Nastia, so far. She looks thinner and her hair, makeup and spray tan aren't nearly as offensive. I know nothing, however, about her gymnastics.

Inquiring fans are dying to know!!! Please don't tease-like Nastia's been doing all along with her damn tweets!
MsJess: I'm not saying that Nastia's return to training and her normal-person hairstyle are necessarily related. It's just an observation. Honestly, it's nice to see her looking more like her old self, physically. Although perhaps having that enormous hair pouf-thing on the top of her head messes with her center of gravity? I don't know.
