Bross The Boss

As much as I hate looking at those deformed knees, I can't deny the girl is fierce.

  1. She really is fierce. Hopefully her leg is getting better since that surgery!

  2. Love the Nastia / Bross side by side and the Bross / Ohashi side by side... She is determined..

  3. did you here nastia's (maybe) new floor music in the backround?

  4. I always thought Bross' artistry made the baby jesus cry, too, but I was won over in Rotterdam when she nailed her floor routine in the all-around. It was arguably the best floor routine throughout the entire World's competition.

  5. She is very talented and fierce but I wish she would work a bit more on her artistry. If the Russians can stay healthy and in good shape, the AA battle in London will be very interesting. I also personally think her style of gymnastics makes her more prone to injuries then others.

  6. All I'm gonna say is that Worlds is going to be FIERCE this year with Komova (who just turned 16) and Mustafina battling for the AA title. If Bross can pull it together, it would be quite the crowning achievement to beat the two best Russians since Khorkina.

  7. She must have been quite young when her family moved from Michigan- does anyone know if the move was just for her to train at WOGA?

  8. Lol I wonder if WOGA gets that kickbacks from that Sushi restaurant, I'm pretty sure Nastia's was filmed there too.

Kelly- Yup they moved there because of Rebecca, she was just level 8 or 9 at the time. I've heard Rebecca's father is quite the scary gym parent, he used to make her walk home if she had a bad practice.

  9. There must be some sort of Woga sanctioned sushi diet, similar to the Memmel fruit-chicken-fruit and All Olympia carb-free diets. And Becca reminds me of a man.

  10. Bross is gona have massive hurdles to overcome for the 2012 title. First (& most importantly) is lack of artistry. That, arguably, got SJ, and it was nicer to watch SJ than RB. The judges are going to go after RB big time especially given that Aliya and others have some artistic ability PLUS the strong tumbling.

  11. I'd say that Bross has her AA spot locked down for now, but she'll need to learn to do an amanar to even think about challenging Mustafina or Kormova. It's hard to judge how Shawn or Jordyn will compared to Bross until they compete this year. However I'd say Aly's spot is up for grabs unless she improves on bars. If I were Mihai I'd be begging Kelli Hill to coach her on bars.

  12. Thats a good point, maybe they should look at apparatus specialists to coach the girls and rotate a little more, Alicia had bars issues, and all of Kelli Hills athletes are great bar swingers. Not a bad idea to restructure things a bit to get some artistry specialists, and apparatus specialists, they could even coach remote via web cam videos after looking at reps in near real time with the girls. More of that needs to happen rather than just corrections at the ranch.....

  13. I think it's hard for coaches to put their egos aside and ask for help/accept help. There's countless examples of gymnasts who could have used the expertise of another coach but Mihai's completely inability to coach elite level bars stands out.

  14. Most of Kelli Hill's gymnasts swing bars well, but then there's Kytra.

  15. Um, Bross is actually flexible, can hit 180 on a switch leap, and is twice a World medalist on bars... She's not really that much like SJ.

  16. I think the Johnson/Bross comparisons are pretty fair, although they are rather simplistic. Sure, Bross has better flexibility and technique than SJ, but they both sorely lack in the artistry department, are pretty powerful, have similar body types (minus Becca's deformed legs), etc.

  17. MsJess - thanks for the response. can't believe families pick up and move for stuff like that, but obviously it was worth it. even if her dad is what everyone says he is, Becca seems to truly enjoy it and have a lot of competitiveness in her.
