Nathan Chen, my first and only adopted son, nailed his free skate at the Broadmoor Open. Nathan's skating skills, extension and performance ability have even improved since Nationals. This boy is spectacular!
Agnes Zawadzki unveiled her new short program and performed her triple toe+triple toe in competition. She also landed a gorgeous real triple lutz and an ina bauer+double axel for a 58+ (impressive for a club competition.) Our Polish American is showing fantastic consistency and much improved performance ability. Her debut on the Grand Prix looks promising. Agnes needs to address her speed and skating skills, which remains a problem for all Tom Z students. With Ryan Jahnke coaching at the rink (as well as pair and dance coaches), there should be plenty of coaches able to fix this issue. At present time, Agnes is Alexe Gilles with jumps.
what level is this kid skating at? He is a CoP dream come true.
ReplyDeleteWhat a talented kid! Impressive!
ReplyDeleteAgh! I train with Nathan! I competed with him at Broadmoor too, got second behind him. Nice to see he's gettin out there!
ReplyDeleteI like Agnes but I'm worried that she seems slower this year. Why are Tom Z.'s students always so slow????
ReplyDeleteAgnes isn't any slower than last year. There is no excuse for Tom Z's students to be so slow. There are so many coaches at that rink who could help their stroking and skating skills. All of Tom Z's students need to be taking lessons from Ryan Jahnke. Either that, or get Frank Carroll to take on Agnes as well.
ReplyDeleteI am not wild about Agnes' music. I thought she skated it well. Are spirals no longer required?
ReplyDeleteI think she should also lose the I-spin. Only Sasha Cohen should be allowed to do that spin, IMO.
Agnes is growing on me. Her jumps are huge and she has a decent layback and beillmann. And I actually like her I-spin. The way she gets into position is different and interesting.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Lindsay, her lutz looks SO easy and her I-spin is unique. I think her skating style is similar to Alexe Gilles', but with more attack.
ReplyDeleteSpirals are no longer required in the SP. They will be performed in the free skate, but all spiral sequences in the free skate will have a pre-assigned set value, i.e., no levels, so the only extra points for the free skate spiral sequence will be due to GOE.
ReplyDeleteThe music is awful as is the dress. Her skating does nothing for me, I agree she skates like Alexe Gilles (another Colorado Springs girl) and Rachael Flatt.
ReplyDeleteI used to skate with Agnes...she is a humble and hard working girl...I really hope she does well this year!
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose anyone knows of a video of Alexander Johnson in senior mens? I used to skate with him but I've never seen him successfully complete a 3axel, and I heard he landed two in his long program (plus a 3-3-3 combo? Seriously?)? I'd love to see it. He had so much talent, he was landing triples for the fun of it on public skate sessions before he'd ever been taught them. It was amazing.
