If only Becca could land that damn Patterson! The dismount looks pretty good in training but something goes off in competition. All the same, I will be rooting for Becca and Nastia all the way to the bitter end at Trials!
I love Becca, seems like nothing ever goes right for her. I will be rooting for her at Trials but I'm afraid the best is going to be alternate. What sucks if it was still a 6 member team I would say she still has a great shot since she is still top 3 on bars.
If it wasn't for that darn injury. She would be on the Olympic team instead of Kyla. She was capable of scoring plus 15 on bars, beam, & floor. She would have been a perfect fit. We already have so many strong vaulters. She has the worst luck.
I also don't know why valeri won't change her beam dismount. It looks like a blown knee waiting to happen. Or maybe she will crash into the beam. She has a terrible round off and needs to do a dismount from a different entry
She's not on my team but I root for her on a personal level. I hope she can put up some performances at trials she can be proud of before her (IMO inevitable) retirement.
I can't help but love her. Wonderfully talented and obviously passionate about the sport, but just plagued by the worst luck. If her knee is fine now, I wonder if she'll consider competing beyond this year. I don't think she's working at full potential currently. I would have taught her two back handsprings to a 2.5 twist years ago. Other than the dismount, she's one of the best beamers we had. And instead of debating whether to put up Kyla "double full, double tuck" Ross or McKayla "gainered double tuck" Maroney on floor, we would have had Bross who can score a 15 or close to it. I love how aggressive Bross is on bars and maintains good form (I refuse to hold her knock knees against her), difficulty, consistency. I really just love her tenacity in general. This girl deserves more than to end her career in heartbreaking fashion. I could see her at Worlds next year if she wanted to do it. The kid lets no injury situations stop her from trying.
You would think she'd had gotten total knee replacement from that scar! Valeri is right in saying she's as tough as they come. Her skills look great in this video. There is something adorable to me about Becca. She has such a pleasant demeanor in this video. I love how on Twitter she follows all the random gymnasts from all over, she seems like real fan of the sport.
I hate 5 person Olympic teams. Why must we suffer through Wieber's hot mess of a bar routine in Team Finals (and if someone gets injured, we're sitting through Raisman) when we have Bross who would score 15+ every time. And with 6 more months, I'm guessing she would have been a very solid 3-event contributer. It's amazing that someone like Kyla Ross who has made the bare minimum in upgrades is such a lock for the team just because of the circumstances playing out around her. I'm still sort of hoping Becca can squeek onto the team (even though that means others getting injured).
I, too, would have liked to have seen a 2.5 twist on beam from her. She could probably do it easily with a little work. I wouldn't be surprised if Valeri didn't explore it because it would drop her d-score a bit. He probably regrets it now.
Anonymous @ 7:11 AM - SO True!! This is the most upbeat and happy I've ever seen her, which is so nice to see. I've always been a fan of hers, and this video just made me like her even more. I really hope she sticks around next year. It's so unfortunate how her career is going at the moment, but I feel like it's still possible for her to end on a high note, maybe at next year's worlds.
She has no chance of making the team. I don't believe all the conspiracy theory stuff re: Valeri Liukin keeping her down so Nastia could go (if anything, you'd think Valeri would want to show he wasn't a one trick pony and could produce another Olympic athlete he isn't genetically related to) but when people talk about Rebecca Bross on the Olympic team, they're talking about 2010 Rebecca Bross, not 2012 Rebecca Bross. Her injury, her downgrade to two event specialist and the 5 person team rule has totally screwed her chances.

ReplyDeleteShe seems like a nice kid too

ReplyDeletei can't root for any gymnast with those knocked knees, sorry. she's just not pretty to watch.
ReplyDeletei do feel bad that valeri's sabotaging her for nastia's benefit with that patterson though

ReplyDeleteShe seems to display much more personality in her interviews than one would expect. I just wish she didn't seem so unhappy during her routines.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for Mooncups.
