The British Gymnastics Championships
Tweddle's 15.75 for her 6.9 bar set keeps her medal hopes alive as the sentimental favorite.
Floor is not yet up to snuff. Marissa King bowed out of the Trials process after the second meet due to pain in her groin having traveled to her hamstring.
Who is on your British squad?
Imogen Cairns made a strong case for herself.
Becky Downie
Has Danusia Francis done enough with her strength on beam?
Ruby Harrold
Nicole Hibbert
Jennifer Pinches
Niamh Rippin
Rebecca Tunney won the meet.
Hannah Whelan is likely to return to the Olympics.

I guess the team will be Tweddle, Whelan, Tunney, Pinches, Downie. That last spot is tricky, but I think Downie offers the most where it's needed.
ReplyDeletePicking alternates will also be tough: Cairns for sure, then Francis or Rippin. Based on today and cold logic, you'd have to say Rippin, but that's incredibly hard on Nush who's otherwise trialed well and been a great and reliable servant of the GB team. You could also make a case for Nicole Hibbert to be an alternate.
It looks to me that Beth has dropped some weight. She looks much better, less bulky etc. Her dance elements were spot on, no obvious deductions, unlike many. Just not sure if her tumbling will be back in time but probably will be.
ReplyDeleteBeth seems a bit "speshul" on FX.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Francis did herself any favors here, but I never really thought she was in the mix. I am shocked that she has hung with it thus far. Maybe she will make it?
ReplyDeleteTweddle has come a long way in her floor presentation. She is not a natural dancer and does not have the best choreography. But she has really improved in expressing herself on floor. The routine is no masterpiece but IMO was entertaining and enjoyable. Certainly better than the Americans and everyone else currently competing, minus the Russians. While I have never been a huge fan of hers, she has earned my respect, I hope she has the best competition at the Olympics, and while Mustafina and Komova are my favorites on UB I have no problem admitting that I am secretly cheering for Beth to take UB gold.
ReplyDelete*Raisman* has come a long way in her floor presentation. She is not a natural dancer and does not have the best choreography. But she has really improved in expressing herself on floor. The routine is no masterpiece but IMO was entertaining and enjoyable.
DeleteSee what I did there? And she does not have a better routine than anyone else minus the Russians. So your saying that Beth has the 6th best floor routine in the world?
What about Vega, or Finnegan, or Anna Li's choreo? Iordache, Ponor, Yao Jinnan?
Her routine is pretty bad, disguised by clever music. Still like her on bars though
Tweddle looks really thin and fierce. It helps her line on bars. I'm looking forward to her NOT head casing her UB routine in prelims so she can battle it out with Komova in the final.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what the actual injury was that caused Beth to need her knee arthroscopy?
ReplyDeleteAmericans look great on floor jordyn aly and fannigans I would watch any day over the russians. So what's up. Beth looked great on bars much better than komova and a musty. Go team USA but if Beth won ub okay
ReplyDeleteBeth is like a clydesdale trying to dance.
ReplyDeleteBeth's leotard is the same style as WOGA at Nationals, but with different colors. Would be so nice to see some different color combinations instead of the Pepto Bismol pink all the time...
ReplyDeleteI think that if Beth can upgrade her middle pass (which I am sure she can) she will win gold on floor. THe crowd will have orgasms listening to her floor music. The judges will give her gold. No question. Her leaps are the best in the business, they may not look gorgeous, but they are split and fully turned, she will ultimately have no deductions.
ReplyDeleteTunney looks as if she's never been stretched a day in her gymnastics' life. Her line is atrocious.
ReplyDeleteAs are her feet, ugh. ^^
ReplyDeleteWhat is Beth's new music?
