While the NBC broadcast blathered on about more trivial matters, Anna Li threw down a hit 6.9 bars routine, WITH full-twisting double layout for a 15.55 score. You go girlfriend! --Catty
This is a great routine. The sad thing is that I don't know if this changes anything at all. Yea she is one of the best bar workers in the country. Just not sure if Marta cares at all.
Why was this only a 15.55? I don't know much about gymnastics but I didn't see any glaring mistakes. Gabby's start value was a 6.6 right? I'm not sure how she could have beaten Anna's 6.9.
In addition to what was said below, Anna also has multiple deductions in re-grips (watch her hands... any movement in handstand before the swing is a 0.1 deduction). She has a re-grip sort of syndrome in her bar work. It's not a deduction in NCAA, and that's where it got really bad. She has gotten much better with her handstands, but she doesn't have the lines of someone like Douglas or, dare I say, Ross. And Anna won't be on the team since she's a one-event gymnast.
Got it. I think I counted about four re-grips in handstand which puts her at 16.5 max score whereas Douglas' max is 16.6. This makes a lot more sense now. I would have never thought to look at re-gripping had you not mentioned it. Thanks!
Lindsay, Gabi's had more hit handstands, more amplitude, and fewer leg separations, so I understand why it scored higher. That said, with three weeks to work on the routine, Anna will be one to watch at trials. Hopefully they actually bother to show her instead of interviewing Shawn Johnson (I get that was needed for many casual viewers, but still....) or watching Nastia stand around between routines.
I can't be the only one who stopped watching Jordyn's floor to watch Anna's routine in the background during the broadcast?
Hell no, I did that too! I just wish Marta would stop wasting her time (and ours!) with Nastia mother-fucking Liukin, and focus on kids like Anna Li! Yes she is inconsistent, and as far as I know this is the first time she has actually competed her bars routine with FULL difficulty, but if she could show it repeatedly at trials and camp... I just hope Marta is keeping an open mind!

ReplyDeleteShe's very inconsistent and this is the first time she has ever should this set in a competition. I think that's why it's hard to care much about it.
ReplyDeleteoops, I meant shown

DeleteThanks for the explanation! I hope Anna can hit two solid bar routines at Trials - she's exquisite.
