Johnny Weir busted out attempts at Triple Lutzes and Triple Axels under spotlights. I don't know WHAT the kneepads are about, other than fighting for men's affections at the back of Splash...but he is skating quite well.
I am happy to see that Johnny looks great considering it is only June and he has a few months before his first Grand Prix. He keeps talking about another 2 pounds that he needs to lose but like you, AJ, I hope he doesn't overdo it because I like seeing his skating have a bit more power. Just makes everything more solid and secure.
the knee pads are there for two reasons, first he is portraying a fighter in on the ice and in Johnny's world fighters wear knee pads. Second, he does the knee slide in the routine and in the first shows, his knees got all bloodied from the ice so the pads protect the skin.
