Afanasyeva had a terrifying fall in beam finals that led her to scratch floor. Coming off of an ankle injury, she is not yet in peak form. Ksenia is lucky she wasn't hurt.
I'm kind of surprised. At how weak they still look on floor. Not just the tumbling & landings. But on thier spins as well. Komova growing really hurt her. The added height & weight, really threw off her tumbling. She dosen't have as much power, as people originally thought. She used to use her speed & lightness, to get around the more difficult tumbling. Don't get me wrong, she is still very thin. But any added height & weight on someone so petite is problem. That just shows you how powerful petite Gabrielle Douglas, really is. She is mega naturally talented. A truly special athlete. After all the talk of Jordyn, Rebecca , Aliya, & Komova over the last few years. If Gabby hits she's AA Champ. Even Komova with an Amanar won't be able to catch her. Gabby has a huge advantage over her on FX.
While I want Gabby to be AA champ too, and strongly feel she is perfectly capable of winning... I wouldn't exactly call the Russians weak (and def. not 'a hot mess') on floor-- not perfect, but this still isn't the time to be perfect. Too early to discount them.
Gabby bandwagon will end she is inconsistant jordyn wieber or lordache will win its not all a bout d score but can you hit and execute on day of compition. I like jordyn to win but if lordache or aly I wouldn't be mad .
Its not the "Gabby bandwagon" people find her gymnastics refreshing. She is not as inconsistent as people make her out to be. She hit at Worlds when it counted. Remember Jordyn and Aly have had much more international experience than Gabby. Gabby noticeably improves with each competition, and noticeably gains more confidence-- as she should. Still, people like to put her down. If you are going to criticize her, find something to about her gymnastics, not her confidence.
May the best girl win! I just hope everyone brings their A game. I hope everyone sticks their routines. The Russians have quite ambitious programs. If they are clean ( rare) they can win it all but my money is still on Gabby
Gabby's gymnastics is not "refreshing". Her releases on bars are nice and that's about it. This whole Gabby bandwagon is full of hype and if she wasn't an American I wouldn't even want her to medal but this is the Olympics and I support my country.
they are a hot mess on floor!
