This documentary/ semi-TV film is a quality look at the legendary pair. Katia's acting skills are superb, as are her writing skills. We all know that she wrote every word.
And wouldn't we ALL want to be a fly on the wall in a sauna with Grinkov, Gordeeva and Fadeev?! Just saying.
IMG deserves a gold medal of its own for how many millions they made via exploiting the death of Sergei Grinkov. Yes Katia, tell us again how perfect your prince was before he dropped dead...

ReplyDeleteI am cackling.
"Yes Katia, tell us again how perfect your prince was before he dropped dead... "
ReplyDeleteThat's a little harsh.
At least we know she won't be saying the same thing if this new husband suddenly kicks the bucket.
is that uncle dick button. i think his death helped immortalized them as a legendary pair mainly because of the media sensation in glorifying their greatness. their squeaky clean image and the fact that katia was so young/pretty/ with a child was definitely played up to the US audiences. if she was fuggy like some female skaters who shall not be named the grandmas from idaho wouldn't have shelled out retirement money to see her shows like they did. had he lived their impeccable record would have eventually come to a end at one point or another. heck, they might even have divorced not unlike many of the russian dance pair couples from that era. behind ever fairy tale is $$$$ lol!
ReplyDeleteGreat show. I did not know this existed. I cant hear about Sergei's death without crying. Tragic, just tragic.
ReplyDeleteWere they not as perfect as they put on. I've always wanted to know the story...the real story.
ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting Elena & Anton played Katia & Sergei in the "dream" sequences. I didn't have to google it to make sure once they did their throw.
ReplyDeleteI loved this as a kid. I can't believe it's been 15 years.
I'm a total cynic but I think G+G were the real deal romantically.
