Aisha's routine is fabulous! Love it! I love Mattie's as well. The spins are beautiful.
I'm disappointed with Elyse's routine. It looks like Val got tired, and just took her previous two routines and smashed them together, filling in the blanks. It's fun, and she will SELL it, but it doesn't wow me like her last 2 routines.
I agree that Weaver/Poje should have been ahead of that kitschy hot mess from P/B. Hopefully they will be this season's Shibs, that get marked higher each competition and end up taking the world bronze.
Well I think P/B have one of the only few decent SD's that I've seen this season (only like the Italian's better), it's hard for me to be objective about W/P's SD because I loathe her entire 'look' so much (especially the tiger print dress).
On the other hand, I can barely watch P/B's kitschy 'Egyptian' FD - I like W/P's and they really sold it at the GP final but I dunno, it's a little bit cliche IMHO.
So on average I would have given W/P the bronze, but since I couldn't stand looking at her in the S/P I don't feel too bad about the actual results.
Scott Moir has really upped his performance level as the year has progressed, despite his fall I actually liked V/M's SD.
As per Scott's pissy comments about not winning, I think he is just projecting his frustration that the Canadian skating federation used up all their chips on fixing a gold medal for Chan onto Marlie. Seems like poor sportsmanship is becoming all the rage north of the border.
@1:34 I agree about the SD and Weaver's hideous dress though P/B feel a bit frantic. What I really meant was that I thought W/P should have beaten P/B in the free dance. Final placement is more of a toss-up though I would still lean W/P.
Carolina's skating just disgusts me. How she is the winner of GPF is just beyond me. If Mao-chan was here, she would have kicked her *** and gotten her gold medal that she so deserves!!! Why did her mom have to die at such a crucial time? Poor Mao, I know you will be this year's world champion for sure. No one comes even close to your league, not even that skater that I hate with passion.
For me, there is a klutzy, ungainly quality to Caro's skating, and when she was doing the 'dainty ballerina' type routines it just accentuated that (not to mention she would tend to melt down a lot, wore outfits that were too big and got ridiculously overscored).
I feel your pain, anon 5:01, but I DO like her routines this year - I think she (or somebody) has taken a cold hard look at the way she skates and has tailored programs that make what had been flaws into assets. If it were not already too late (probably), I'd say Rachel Flatt should take note.
I could not believe the sparkly onesie that Caro wore for her LP at the GP Final though - it might be OK for a Cirque Du Soleil act, but for the somber Bach? It was just nuts. Why she didn't stick with her nice dress (in AJ's clip above) is beyond me.
I wish Mao had been there on the chance that there would have been ONE decent ladies LP at the GPF. That Lenova won a bronze and actually deserved it is just sad.
Personally, after this weekend I am more bummed than ever that Mirai seems to be so lacking in motivation, she is like a beautiful Mercedes with almost no gas in the tank.
Sad too, about Alissa. Yuka and Jason did not have a good week.
Is Alissa Czisny sleeping with Jason Dungjen? They are way too cuddly and leaving out Yuko Sato in the kiss and cry. Figures that Jason would go after his own kind.
I'll echo one of the Anons above: I LOVE Weaver and Poje's free dance but can't hardly watch their short dance because she looks like the daughter of Fred and Wilma Flinstone grew up to be a day-shift titty-bar dancer.
I've never been a fan of Carolina's, but I do like her programs this year. I'm just said we now have ladies winning medals with less jump content than the ladies from the early 90s.
Javier seems to be getting better with each skate. The first time I saw him this season, I thought his presentation was good, but a bit clunky and unrefined. It seemed to be a lot better by the Grand Prix Final.
Not in love with Mattie's routine, either. I think it's overdone. It screams "trying too hard." Her leaps and turns are fabulous, though. I think she will only get better at UCLA. Unfortunately, knowing Mattie's history, she will be injured during the first season and then end up as a team manager rather than competing. She's always been too frail.
Nastia's definitely training again! This was a video posted on the 21st of December; it's an interview with her local TV news station, I believe. Plenty of training clips in it!
Javier is the dreamiest!!! Oh yeah and he skated very well. Smooth jumps. Not over trying. Did I mention that he is the dreamiest???? I did. He deserves another mention.
WHERE'S MATTIE?!
ReplyDeletehow Weaver/Poje failed to beat the tragic mess of Pechalat/Bourzat is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteI don't love Mattie's routine. She has beautiful turns in there, but there is a whole lotta nothing going on for much of the routine.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the music Aisha Gerber is using here? Love it!
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer W/P's FD performance in NHK to their GPF one.
ReplyDeleteI actually do love Mattie's routine! I've seen her do it better in practice though.
ReplyDeleteElyse's is phenomenal and I really like Lichelle's too.
Does anyone know what Kassidy Kozai's music is?

ReplyDeleteP/B's short dance and W/P free would make a great set of programs. Too bad they can't compete as a team.
ReplyDeleteScott Moir's sour grapes: is there trouble in Canton?

ReplyDeleteI love Mattie's routine!!!! I'm sad it's getting mixed reactions.
ReplyDeleteCertainly, Caro is a Worlds Champion & Olympics podium material.
ReplyDeleteI love her speed and ice coverage.
Where is Yuzuru's vid?
ReplyDeleteYuzuru was robbed by that Spanish guy at GPF.

*sad, not said. Oops.
ReplyDeleteval is so over. She has not done anything new in years. I heard that aishas routine was not done by val.
ReplyDeleteNot in love with Mattie's routine, either. I think it's overdone. It screams "trying too hard." Her leaps and turns are fabulous, though. I think she will only get better at UCLA. ReplyDeleteIm not a fan of Mattie's routine either, but i know she will work it.
ReplyDeleteDoes Miss Val not like EHH or something? i feel like she got the short end of the stick with that routine, she is capable of so much more.
No Nastia nut-hugging?
ReplyDeleteI started something. BC is calling HERSELF "baby Gator" now!
