Images of Trials

Images of a dramatic weekend.

  1. A few thoughts:

Liang Chow, I don't think its a coincidence two Olympic Trials in a row his gymnast has won. He's done somethin right. I see him as team coach (again).

Nastia Liukin moved me. It was bittersweet and after that good balance beam routine more sweet than bitter. She said the two standing ovations were right up there with the AA Gold and I believe for once this isn't a PR soundbite.

Random: Kyla Ross's female coach seems really creepy.

    1. I think Geddert will be team coach, Jordyn is going to do all four during team finals.

Will Martha be on the floor, they need a female coach so I guess that could be Kyla's female coach.

  2. This is not meant to be mean even if it sounds like it..but why is it that athletes above 18 and girls that have been out for any length of time, whether for injury or like Nastia, grow normal females bodies and then look like pedestrians in leotards..That's what Alicaia and Nastia looked like in their leos..no matter how fit they were..good for them for their efforts, you can only admire them..

    1. Because your body is finally allowed to mature..they have reached a point where they are no longer a under a certain body fat percentage when they are hurt or have been out for a long period of time. Most gymnast grow a few inches after they quit as well are looking more feminine.

    3. Studies have shown that hardcore elite training, particularly in sports like gymnastics has been known to delay puberty somewhat. Even after menses women athletes often lose their periods for a time if their body fat gets below a certain percentage. In any event, I don't think older gymnasts look entirely like pedestrians. You can see muscle definition in Alicia, Nastia, and Anna Li that you don't see on couch potatoes. Females get wider especially in the hips after they are fully mature and usually have fuller thighs as well. That's nature. Look at great Soviet gymnasts like Nelli Kim and Ludmilla Tourischeva, Larissa Latyinian or Czech Olympic Champion Vera Caslavzka in their prime. Nelli was 19 at her first Olympics, so was Ludmilla. Vera and Larissa were in their twenties. All had fully mature women's bodies-and they were all well into their twenties in their final Olympics. It would be abnormal if they had tiny pixie, shapeless bodies. Not that she's abnormal physically but I would say genetics has kept Rebecca Bross looking rather straight up and down for a 19 year old. It was the same for 1980 Olympic Champion who was 19 when she won the Olympics but looked about 12. Becca might mature further after she retires from gymnastics.

    4. Young women who are no longer training 40 hours a week (even if they still work out regularly) will inevitably start to look like women, and no amount of training or dieting after that will get rid of hip growth. Boobs, sometimes; hips, never.

What country are you living in? It cannot be the USA. What street are you walking down that even 0.1 % of the pedestrians on it would look that good?

  4. LOL, while I get what the former comment was aiming at, I think your point is more accurate. People would throw shit at me for walking down the street in a leo.

  5. I think that the coaches should be Geddert and Gabby's beam coach(can't remember her name). Geddert worked for Tokyo and this is basically the same team. Raisman and Maroney are solid enough that they don't need their personal coaches out there. Gabby is the most in need of one of her personal coaches, we need her to hit.
