Gracie Gold's Senior SP

Our saving Gracie?!

  1. Needs to be polish. I don't like her arms movement at all, I hate the Rippon Lutz and even more with a lady. Did she "try" to do an Ina Bauer before that jump ? If yes, it's beyond ugly.
Rewatch 3 times, i don't like it. It doesn't suit her. She doesn't have the maturity for it yet. It feels so Unnatural. Zero facial expression (full concentration, hope it's was because she wanted to nailed it for the first "official" time), zero feeling for the music.
The good point is that she still has time before the beginning of the season to work on it.I like her easy spins.

  3. Please BAN ALL FLAILING ARM MOVEMENTS! Period. ALSO, the cheezy moves and faces for ANY skater age 10+! I beg you ISU. This is a short program but with today's mtv and video generation, it is just TOO LONG to keep anyone but an uber fan's attention. Shorten the programs for all competitors even at the novice level for the free stylers. Also, STOP the stupid bowing at the end UNLESS this is an exhibition. Maybe a fast salute like the gymnasts. Nobody but big fans will take this seriously when you have all that stuff. SAVE it for the shows and maybe you will get more customers.
Nice skate. How old is she again? She had more confidence than Alyssa who I luv.

    1. It's only 2:40. How long do you want it to be 1 minute??

    2. It's hard enough to fit the required skills into the time given. It'd be impossible to fit the skills into a shorter program unless you just ditched all the choreography except for that in the step sequence.

  4. That ina bauer was pathetic.

  5. Ina Bauers don't need to be with a back bend..it's the foot position that makes it an Ina Bauer

  6. People. Can we remember that she was nowhere before last year and this is her first year as a Senior? I like the effort to get her out of her comfort zone--she has so much potential, she should be pushed. I think this program will help her mature. And the Ina Bauer was choreographed as part of the mandatory footwork going into the solo triple; I actually thought it was a nice piece of choreography and at least something different. Definitely needs to work on consistency of presentation throughout the program; but nothing that some serious work in the ballet room can't fix.

  7. Wow, this program is ackward. I'm all for getting out of your confort zone, but it just looks like she's trying too hard. I don't expect much from US skaters these days.

  8. This is better than last winter, but this skater should go back and take some lessons. Ashley Wagner could teach her how to manage big hips and thighs better than that.

  9. any ladies thinking about skating to Hernando's Hideaway really need to watch Sasha's ex and carefully reconsider whether they match her precision and sass.

    and Gracie...that hip circle...oh my!

  10. The program certainly has the jumping content necessary to be competitive. Spins and footwork are ok but need better speed and position. Posture needs the most work. Fixing it will go along way toward making the character more believable. Let's see where she is by January.

  11. Man how many inches did Gold grow over the summer. She's still not my cup of tea but looks a little more mature. She has the jumps...I guess that's what matters.

  12. I'm just not comfortable watching anyone under the age of 18 perform "sexy" choreography.

  13. What irks me more than anything is watching skaters do programs that do not suit them - so many things take lots of hard work to change - but this is just a matter of good judgement.

Unlike others critical of arm movements, etc, I DO think despite the Muzak, this is actually an extremely good program and I think Gracie did all the elements very well.

But she does not at ALL seem to have the cute, kittenish sexuality that this program is selling. Even if she was just concentrating on the elements the first time out the kind of skater truly suited for this kind of thing would have just naturally been able to inject some of that.

Maybe as the season goes on I'll be proven wrong and she'll learn to sell it - but right now there is something Rachel Flatt-ish about all this.

If it was up to me I'd have her skating to Bach or something beautiful and stately that did not demand so much emotional performance ability.

  14. Anon 12:33, I totally agree there's something "Rachael Flatt-ish about all this". She is good, but just solid, not spectacular. Take out the jumps when she gets a growth spurt and what is left? She's no Sasha.

  15. Completely not a fan. The program is like something a 6 year old pageant baby might do and aside from landing jumps, she's just average... I stopped watching like I use to, and this is not going to help. *sigh*

  16. Gracie Gold is spectacular. She has a unique style, distinctly American. Right now our three best skaters are Gracie, Wagner and Czisny. Czisny is off crutches from her injury and should be healed in three more months. Gracie is part of the New Wave of ladies figure skaters, which includes Julia Lipnitskaia and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva. She did a superlative job for "Hernando's Hideaway", that red costume is absolutely apropos.

  17. Is Gracie Jewish? Someone told me that she was born Gracie Goldberg.

    1. Well, she doesn't look Jewish -- at least not Jesus Christ-era Jewish. She looks more like wander around Europe and America for a 100 generations intermarrying type of Jewish.
