A Wonderful Sponsorship Moment

If only we could all get this VISA card!

  1. It is nice they did this, granted she did not make the team, but I would rather use her card then a weiber card.

  2. The expiration date is wrong: it should be 2008, not 2014.

This will be filed under the "media whore" category, right? Oh, sorry, only Shawn's endorsements meet that criteria. My bad.

    1. Uhhh Visa gave her the card and they've been her sponsor since she was like 14.

    4. AJ puts most of Nastia's media appearances under the Mediawhore tag...he puts most media appearances under that tag in general.

    5. i think everyone would do the same thing these girls do if money is involved if the truth be told by all.

    6. Totally. Anyone who says they wouldn't for the almight dollar-or Euros or whatever is lying. ;)

  3. duh mediawhore stuff is under those who just use their sport ONLY to get sponsors.... like how Shawn knew she wasn't going to be at the Visa Championships but grabbed all the sponsors anyway (but hey it's a lot of $ who could blame her). Nastia actually competed so she's not a mediawhore

    1. Nastia can be a mediawhore. She is called on it when she is. This was just something cool VISA did. She wasn't out there saying she was coming back solely to help the team...that would get labeled as Mediawhore. Lately, I use mediawhore as a generic label for athletes who get a ton of press and Media Bullshitting 101 for the gymnasts who are outright being deceitful.

    2. Huh? Nastia was saying that she was out there solely to help the team, because she achieved all her goals in 2008. I saw that at least once at Nationals and Trials...

  4. I think that Nastia is a media whore. For christ sakes the bitch announces her comeback just in time to take all the attention away from the gymnasts at worlds. Sad that she could not get her fat ass in gear and tarnished her reputation by making a fool of herself. The poor bitch never did hit a bar routine did she? She hit 0/4 , sadly I think the bitch only hit 2/5 beam routines. It is disappointing because I have never seen a gymnast for which the path to the olympics was more set out. Sadly the bitch thought she was going to make it. She should have been training rather then media whoring herself out to price is right! It is pathetic because I used to like her. Now I think she has been beaten again by Shawn.

    1. Yes, she 'tarnished' her reputation by receiving two standing ovations as the second most decorated gymnast in American history. And I love how Shawn gets to use her knee as an excuse but Nastia can't use her shoulder.

And Shawn beat Nastia how? In the orange tan department?

    2. Shawn beat Nastia by the fact that she got every endorsement out there. I was one of the people that gave nastia a standing ovation because I thought she was going to hurt herself. Honestly I think that Memmel could have done a better job then nastia did. Anyway that was good for the sport.

I thought it was interesting how nastia said she got through three or four bar routines a day but could not get through one even in podium training to save her life. She did use her shoulder as an excuse. If she did not want to make excuses, she would have never even mentioned her "shoulder injury". The sad thing is that she did not know when she was clearly beaten. She really had no business competing in the olympic trials. There were many hard working gymnasts who were left out of trials for someone that had a play comeback.
I love nastia, but this was the most half assed comeback ever. If you want a comeback you have to realize that they really never are anything but shadows of their former self.

    3. Mentioning you have an injury is not making an excuse, it's telling the truth. Shawn and Nastia both had injuries that made their respective comebacks more difficult than they anticipated.

Shawn said she retired because of her knee, when really she was doing everything but be in the gym. Filming commercials, doing interviews (where she mentioned training was going great!) Shopping in LA and going to DWTS. All of that, I'm sure, was in her training plan for the Olympics. Topped with Gabby saying she hadn't seen Shawn in a month at Classics.

Shawn used her knee as an excuse and I wish more people would call her out on her BS. To take your phrase "There are many hardworking gymnasts" who are left off the endorsement train because everyone is obsessed with a retired gymnast.

    4. You delude yourself. Liukin hasn't 'tarnished' anything especially her reputation. She still has sponsors and media knocking at her door. And she's still going to make oodles of mullah. And if you think Liukin is fat, even at her heaviest, then you desperately need your eyes checked.:b

  5. I always look for firsts. Is she the first gymnast to be on a credit card? Was MLR the first to be on a cereal box? Was MLT the first coach to blow a director of USAG in an elevator?
