A Video To Remember

This is a video of the Stars on Ice warmup in Orlando, Florida.  It really shows you how different skaters train, notably Evan and Sasha.  Notice that Evan has always been known for being a jumping fiend and a workhorse.  He trains most of his jumping passes in this video and even pulls off a Triple Flip+Triple Toe and a Triple Axel, neither of which he performs in the show.

Sasha Cohen is seen opening up on a double axel and spends the rest of the time focusing on spins.  Those who have seen Sasha train in the past always commented that she spends a lot of time on the areas she is good at, like spirals and spins.  Though Sasha may have told us, "if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten," she herself doesn't look like she's caught on to the meaning of the mantra.  This is where going to college could help.

  1. Yes, but one could say that Evan is also focusing on what he is already strong at (jumping/consistency).

  2. I think each focus on what is important to them. Evan feels it is important to put out clean performances and keep in near competitive shape while Sasha is there to be artistic and dramatic. Evan looked a hell of a lot more comfortable going into his triple axel than Sasha did on her double.
I mean the even tried the quad.

  4. Evan attempted a quad. I was merely pointing out that Evan is a hard worker, even on tour. Sasha has let her skating go to shit.

  5. Evan knows nothing else but hard work. In some ways, that's a good thing. In other ways, not so much.

  6. Just knowing hard work would never make to be an Olympic Champion. Evan has a combination of everything: talent, hardworking, good coach, decent financial resources, luck, and the right timing.
