RIP Marvin Hamlisch. The world lost a fantastic composer today.
Carolina Kostner's boyfriend, defending 50K race walk champion Alex Schwazer, was barred from the Olympics due to being caught doping in Italy. He previously withdrew from the 20K race walk due to a cold.
IceNetwork posted Marlie's music choices. I always love that they secretly post them without fanfare, so that only the truly obsessed stalkers wander across it. Looks like Marina is trying to make them romantic yet again. Let's hope Voir get better choices. It is music far better suited to the boring Shibutanis.
SD: "Giselle" by Adolphe Adam
FD: "Almost Like Being In Love," "Strangers in the Night" and "Cheek to Cheek" by Frank Sinatra.

Michael Phelps reveals his new cocktail waitress/ "model" girlfriend. Gold and money really do make your class three underbite look so much better.
The Associated Press tweeted that Jordyn Wieber has had a stress fracture since the Olympic training camp. In the words of a friend, "she truly is the 20-year commemorative of Kim Zmeskal." Geddert is now saying it slowed her training.

Interview with the lovely Joy Womack.

Mustafina after winning gold.
I saw that excitement and thought, who was he looking at.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Wieber's coach got to crap on Aly's day? So what if she had a stress fracture. Musty blew out her knee not that long ago. All these girls have lingering injuries of some sort. I can't stand that guy.
ReplyDeleteHe congratulated Aly and said he was proud of her.
DeletePeople hate Geddert. People read Geddert's blog. People read Geddert's tweets. People read Geddert's interviews. People whine about Geddert's whining. People complain about Geddert's complaining.
DeleteThose music choices though.
ReplyDeleteHave they stopped providing paddles for rowing?
ReplyDeleteJesus... holy cock with that picture.
ReplyDeleteI love Frank Sinatra, but uhhhhh.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they'll have another La Strada moment.
I'm not buying this stress fracture nonsense. America's Golden Girl has been injured since Camp, not able to practice enough, yet no one orders an MRI or other images? They don't even bother to wrap it? It doesn't make sense. She didn't need a boot all week when she was parading around London, but now she needs one? I think it's just an excuse to help Jordyn and Geddert save face after she screwed it up again tonight. If she is injured, I hope she recovers quickly, but I call bullshit.
ReplyDeleteHer foot has been wrapped in every competition. Qualifications, Team final and floor final it had tape on it. There's no point of putting a boot on when you still have training and competitions to go
DeleteA stress fracture isn't an Olympic ending injury. Like Iordache it just fucking hurts and you have to limit your training. But it's the Olympics, you suck it up and push through.
These girls are a lot tougher than many man-boy soccer and basketball players I've seen

ReplyDeleteJoy Womack, although a good dancer, is being accepted into Russian company, the Bolshoi, for publicity purposes. Now both Mariinsky and Bolshoi will have American girls in their companies, and you bet both companies will market the shit out of this whenever they make their annual trips to the U.S..
ReplyDeleteRussia is overbrimming with riches when it comes to ballet talent. Why would they need to take American girls who go there to study in their late teens? There are fine dancers in Russia who get denied places in big companies. What other reasons would Russian companies want to take American dancers except for marketing purposes? So no, Joy and Keenan are not better than their Russian counterparts, just lucky in being born Americans. Not saying it's wrong to use these girls for marketing, but it's a joke to try to convince seasoned balletomanes that this is anything but strategic marketing.
Many of the athletes are using Viagra because it is allowed per the rules and also gives an athletic advantage.
ReplyDeleteIs that for real? You are not joking?
DeleteWhat?! How can an erection be anything but distracting? Seriously, I do not understand this.
DeleteI'm glad someone else caught the Kim Zmeskal parallels. It's almost eerie. I hope Jordyn's post-Olympic life comes out as happily as Kim's appears to have.
ReplyDeleteThe 20th commemorative comment was hilarious. However, Kim did not get Olympic GOLD. Jordyn kicked ass in TF despite being underpar overall. That is what matters most. Jordyn was a huge contributer for this team.
DeleteI called it way back after trials. Current World champion & current mutiple National champion, is beaten at trials, doesn't make the AA final (initially, in Kim's case) and fizzles out at event finals. Meanwhile rising star who beat her at trials goes on to shine big. Jordyn's a rock star though--I hope she doesn't see herself as a victim, she won team gold!
DeleteI would just like to say that all the bad press out there towards GAbby and her family's personal finance issues should be kept private. However, they are saying how she was burdened by her mom being a single parent raising 4 kids and the traing expense contributed. But doesn't her mom supposedly owe her former gym money around $20,000. Also correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't GAbby funded by USAG and all her training paid for since she was a national team member? so where is the big expense? I was under the impression that once you are on the National team, including top 6 junior team, your travel and training is paid for. If someone could clear that up,it would be great. But she has no worries now, sogoodluck to herin the future and invest well. Too bad al your private issues came out during the meet.
