This and That

Mother Russia held its team test skate this weekend. Videos of the skaters performing their new programs have been posted. For complete news and links, program info and competition schedules for the skaters, visit ONTD for Day 1 and Day 2. There will be a spelling test covering all of their full names.

Alena Leonova- SP, FS
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva- SP, FS
Ilinykh and Katsalapov: SD, FD
Kavaguti and Smirnov- SP
Volosozhar and Trankov- SP, FS

Ashley Wagner posted a vlog and discussed why she withdrew from Nebelhorn. This video is a welcome treat for anyone who needs a perky shot of Espresso to start their day.

Ashley also posted a bonus video where she went shopping with Adam Rippon. It doesn't look like the first time he's gone shopping with the girls.

Kelli Hill spoke to Gymnastike about the major stars she has coached.

Paul Simon, one of America's top NCAA gymnasts ever, passed away last week.

Yu-Na Kim announced that her coach will be someone who lives in Los Angeles. Let the speculation begin!

Another training video of Vanessa Ferrari has been posted:

  1. In other news Gabby Douglas left Excalibur. I wonder which gyms she is planning on trying out? Hills is the obvious choice but Kelli seems to have mentally checked out of coaching Kytra. Not sure if Gabby would inspire her more.

Peng Peng Lee is training again and her goals include winning a medal in the 2012 Olympics and competing for UCLA.

  2. Oh sorry I missed where you posted below about Douglas leaving. Should have know I couldn't get the scoop on that ahead of you.

  3. How could you say no to Yu-Na Kim if you were Frank Carroll?

  4. Wouldn't the USFSA be breathing down Frank's neck even if he's just contemplating coaching Yu-Na?

  5. If not Frank, maybe Ken Congemi? I wouldn't be surprised if it's Frank though.

  6. Volosozhar and Trankov are obviously new and need work, but I'm really liking that SP of theirs.

  7. Hmm.. Yu-Na doesn't want Frank Carroll, I believe. He is kind of strict coach.

  8. Regarding Kavaguti and Smirnov: didn't Tamara Moskvina already use the Zarathustra for Kazakova and Dmitriev back in the day? It was like their signature piece. Somehow, methinks she isn't too excited to be their coach.

  9. I like Elizaveta Tuktamysheva's SP. She gets in character well for someone so young. She needs more flexibility though.

Kavaguti is so flimsy. I don't even know what it is sometimes. Her skating skills just aren't very good. Certainly not Russian like

  10. I can definitely see Frank saying no. He doesn't need all that comes with Yu na at this point in his career. Now if I was up and coming as a coach I would because I would need the rep.

Alena's program and outfit is bad imo. I just don't like her packaging.

  11. Wouldn't there be a conflict of interest for Caroll to take on both Yuna and Mirai? He did take on Costner before but Mirai is a more promising medal threat at this point. Besides, I have the feeling that Team Yuna doesn't like the idea of sharing a coach with another elite skater.

  12. If Yuna wants an exclusive coach, it CAN'T be Caroll.
