This and That

Apologies for a lack of updates. I've been working and my Polish ass has literally been dropping when I walk in the door. I haven't even had time for full exfoliation.

McKayla Maroney has the fiercest Amanar ever and proved why ASac may need to knock her out.

The other finalists were a sad commentary on the state of opponents Martha prefers to face.

Gabrielle Douglas won Uneven Bars and Glen Ishino won Pommel Horse.

Photos from Shen and Zhao's Wedding on Ice.

Ginger Jackson wrote to let us know that he rocked out MJ to second place in the short program at Golden West. He finished second overall behind Richard Dornbush.

Frank Carroll's newest wonder student, Leah Keiser, was injured for part of the summer but came back to nail her short and win the junior ladies short with a 51+.

A reader sent me links to scans of the Virtue and Moir feature in the latest issue of IFS. ONTD posted the scans.

  1. Asac is working handspring double-fulls (has that even been done on the estro side) as well as Amanars. If she sticks with her leaned down body and avoids getting hurt on floor (maybe not doing floor at all), I think she can progress these. The double full more likely really.

I wish she would stop that bouncing and hopping NCAA like thing. I feel like giving her lots of points off for never actually stopping (she tries to cover her non sticks by bouncing around).

  2. Asada's step sequence is the best. The program didn't really come alive until after all the jumping passes were done, but maybe that is ust becuase she made mistakes on the first two. So far...nice job Mao!

  3. Is that Nan Song, in the AOI youtube still? (the guy in the left part of the screen)

  4. Aww, I love Shen and Zhao. Best wishes to them!

Mao's Tango looks promising, if she can stick her jumps.

  5. I dont know what i feel about mao's program, something is off for me in it,like the first spin, when she starts the camel spin the music is kind of slow but than the music changes but mao just keeps spining,i dont know why but it buged me and made the spin look like its just goes forever.

I realy like the leo McKayla is wearing,i wish it was the team's leo,i cant stand the ugly pink leo anymore.

  6. Maroney looks like she could do a TTY. ASac will be hard pressed to keep up with her. She bounds out of her fully rotated Amanar!

  7. so tired of all the ppl freaking over mao's step sequence.

I'd agree if they say it's the hardest step sequence...but the best? hardly. god I hate cop foot sequences. it looks SO LABORED and slow and the thing about mao's step sequences in particular is that she KEEPS ON SPINNING. it's like the same thing over and over and over

the worst part is that she has that same step sequence with a few little tweaks for like every single program DEAR LORD

  8. Ginger Jackson did indeed have a great competition! His SP totally rocked, and his LP was really good too. He has tons of personality and is really fun to watch. His jumps are pretty solid. Ricky Dornbush was AWESOME. Overall, the men's competition at GW was really good.

Aunt Joyce, you need to get on the Jon Cassar bandwagon. :) He is amazing. Although he has a little trouble with his jumps, it doesn't take away from what a gorgeous skater he is.

  9. If you don't like it, just don't watch it, for god's sake. No need to spoil other people's enjoyment with your rant.

  10. Loved Ginger Jackson! He put every ounce of energy into the SP and made it so much fun. I've never had the chance to see him skate before, so I'm glad I got to see him at GW!

I concur with the Jon Cassar love above. He is a total rockstar!

  11. A guy is named "Ginger"? Huh. That's too bad. Then again I knew a girl named Henry, and I thought that was odd too.

  12. Ginger Jackson is a nickname. He's a redhead and he's skating to Michael Jackson. Thus, the nickname I assume.

  13. Ginger Jackson is Sean Rabbitt. His family loves Auntie's nickname. Mama Ginger reads here. AJ loves Cassar and his spread eagles.

  14. Well I doubt that we will see Zam do elite again. There is no reason to. This girls amanar and soon to be chen will wipe the floor with her.

  15. Mao is a true artist.

  16. I don't know, Zam and Asac just have such weightless airborne styles or something that just makes them fun to watch. Maroney's is techinically great, but meh to watch so far. And how old is she to be pounding like that? Can she last.

  17. Does it matter that Maroney bends at the hips on that 2.5 yurch? Anyway, it's too early to say anything... Will she still crank that around after a growth spurt? Sac has the upper hand for doing her skills with a Sr body rather than a Jr one.

Oh and I LOVE Shen and Zhao

  18. I love Maroney's leo too! Simple design in US colors= wayyy better than the perpetual pink!

  19. I'm still pissed at the Vazam stunt with not coming to World's tryouts. That was total crap. Hope UCLA has fun with their cheerleader routines. USA knows their not in it to represent the country. Grr...

  20. ASac can't lay off floor altogether. She was told by USAG (Marta) that in order to be considered for future national teams she had to compete at least 3 events. And even though she mentioned that she loves UB and that Mihai loves to coach her there, I doubt we will see her on that event anytime soon.

  21. Oh god, Plushenko still has that costume. It's gotta smell by now. I can almost smell it through my monitor. Wish I wouldn't have eaten recently.
