This and That

Alicia Sacramone landed a Tampax Endorsement and met with a few fans.

Felicia Zhang and Taylor Toth confirmed the end of their partnership today.  This has been coming for a while.  The pair has not been on the same page for the last few months.  Felicia is at the point where she needs to decide between pairs and singles, as it simply isn't working.  She also is in the process of deciding on where she'll attend college.  One of the many things to consider is that while she did receive a JGP assignment (that hindered their training for their senior Grand Prixs), she does not have a full arsenal of triples.  Her strength at landing throw jumps makes her an asset as a pairs skater regardless of who her partner is.  It is difficult to have one partner in their 20s and one still in high school and heavily dependent on a parent.  Both say they will search for new partners.

AT&T Behind The Team with Gabrielle Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney and Sabrina Vega.

UCLA had a rather small turnout on Alumni Night.  Some in attendance: Onnie Willis, Jeanette Antolin, Tasha Schwikert, Jordan Schwikert, Ariana Berlin and Anna Li.

The National Team heads to the Ranch tomorrow.  Both Nastia and Shawn will be there.  Strong bets for Jesolo include Wieber, Raisman, Priessman, Maroney, Ohashi and Kocian.

Interview with Elyse Hopfner Hibbs where she acts like there is even a possibility she'll go for 2012.

Ina and Zimmerman are glad to be skating together again on Stars On Ice.

  3. Wow poor Vega...wants to make world team and olympics. poor girl doesnt have a shot in hell. interesting to note that there is a 5th member of junior national team who turns senior this year, mckenzie wofford. guess USAG doesnt give a shit about her / this was shot during her crazy meltdown camp appearance?

  4. I actually like Alicia a lot after this vid. Eh about her gymnastics, but at least she's got a personality.

  5. Hey AJ! have you heard what Johnny Weir has said about the US Men's team for Worlds?

  6. Maybe McKenzie Wofford is doing Level 10? Certainly her new gym doesn't really train elites. As for Vega, I would hope she has a realistic idea where her start values put her compared to the rest of the US elites (and we know how important start values are in gymnastics), but you never know who will be injured, etc, when it comes time to pick World/Olympic teams. Vega has snuck on Jr teams before that I didn't necessarily think she had a great shot at either.

  7. Good for Nicole for getting back in the ice and (I imagine) working on getting back in skating shape. With that said, that program was like 60% posing. It didn't do it for me. Maybe she's working to build up her endurance.

  8. I'm surprised that for being so out of shape, Nicole could get such a low sit spin position and still had good spiral extension.

I wonder if the little kids at the side of the rink were traumatized at all by the sad stripper moves at the end. I was.

  9. when did nicole get out of Jail. HOpefully she can teach a little bit before she relapses.

  10. The vid definitely shows Alicia's personality. She is this easygoing in person. Very charming. I love how the girls asked Alicia to do bars (awkward), and then one of the girls actually had one of Memmel's moves in her floor routine. "We love you Alicia, but you don't do the event we need help on or any moves we want to copy!!!" Awesome.

  11. Too many 'Katarina posing sequences' & stripper moves (hopefully an interim phase until she gets stronger). However: would really like to see Nicole come back strong. :)

  12. Wofford is going to camp, so she's still doing elite. But let's be honest, even if she was still at WOGA, she's not in contention for a world team spot.

  13. Loved the Alicia thing...haha! At least she's not a robot. Can you imagine Jordyn, Rebecca or Aly Raisman doing a spot like this....they're personality and emotion-free.

  14. Nicole's uh "moves" reminded me of some of the college floor routines esp with that roll around on the ice. I couldn't watch anymore after that.

  15. Wait...is Nicole trying to come back to competition, or just trying to get into shows?

  16. What is this mess. Wow Nicole looks silly. Sorry I was cracking up. I hate when skaters do these kind of programs. I wouldn't even like it on one of my favs, Michelle. Those types of programs always look thrown together.

  17. I liked Nicole's program. She's probably one of a very few number of skaters who could pull of a number to Rihanna's music.

  18. Any of the jrs and seniors have a shot for 2012. Who would have seen Sloan on the 2008 team AND playing such a big role. Jana dropped the ball (well really bar) at selection camp, Shayla broke her leg the day before selection making things easier for Sloan, Sam P and Memmel got injured a minute before prelims putting Sloan in more routines than expected... She got very lucky.

BTW, that Gym Dog video sure didn't show much of Shayla at all. Wasn't she recruited to be the star???

  19. Bridget Sloan didn't go to camp did she? Doesn't seem like it from her twitter feed. Did I miss something? Is she going NCAA this fall and forgoing a bid for 2012?

  20. There may be an A camp and B camp... Sloan might be in the second one, that's all. I highly doubt she'd be skipping camp unless she was badly injured.

  21. Theres no A B camp this month. Thats usually only January anyways. I don't think Asac did either though. At least not according to ggmb. Also it sounds like Nastia is going there more as a coach then to train.

  22. @Anon 11:02 - Shocker. Nastia isn't going to be training at camp.

  23. Nastia is so done. At this point, she's basically just stringing people along to keep the money flowing in. Either that or she has deluded herself into believing that after taking two - three years off, she somehow can get herself on that team with only about a year of training. And obviously, she can forget going to Tokyo this fall...
