This and That

Wendy dishes on DWTS!

It looks like Mother Russia will host the 2011 World Figure Skating Championships, as the government has offered to cover all of the costs.  It is almost as though the Soviet Sports Machine mentality still exists.  Six countries have bid, including the US (Colorado Springs and Lake Placid), Canada (Vancouver), Croatia, Finland and Austria.  An announcement is expected by Friday.  If I was a skater, there is no place I'd rather go than Austria in spring time.  I'd be all over that Sound of Music tour like the most obnoxious tourist possible.  Even though Graz is Austria's bid city, there is no way I'd leave that country without twirling through the Alps in drapes.

Yu-Na Kim is suing her former agent, IB Sports, over money they failed to pay her for some of her endorsements.  The amount owed is some serious change: $793,930.

Interview with Sasha Cohen.

Feature on Joey Hagerty's retirement from competitive gymnastics.

Jay Clark Mic'd Up.  (Apparently his missed the memo on positive encouragement in the team huddle?!)

The NCAA announced Regional Assignments for the upcoming NCAA Championships.

Gymnastics Legend Nikolai Andrianov passed away Monday at the age of 58.

The always-charming Kurt Browning appeared on WKYC to promote Stars on Ice.  Note: I refuse to start referring to it as Smucker's Stars on Ice after years of knowing it as SOI through various sponsors.  Plus, I am really not going to support any sponsor that insists of inflicting Michael Weiss on all of us.

  1. RE: Cohen interview- she alluded to the fact (?) that SOI only tours on weekends? (in lieu of a full tour schedule)
Sad state of affairs for the 25th anniversary if true. :-/

  3. That is a nice write up about Hagerty. I forgot who he was. I think he was the least memorable Olympian in years. Anyway it is nice profile about him and his girlfriend. Just curious that they are together as i thought he was screwing one of the womens gymnastics Olympians.

  4. I think we won't see Sasha do another year of SOI. She seems to be over the whole skating thing and ready to move on with her life. Maybe I am just fantasizing too much but do you think there could be something between Sasha and Evan? They would make the cutest couple and balance each other with her fire and his cool classiness.

    Pictures of her haircut please!

  5. I thought Evan was gay. He totally backpedaled when Nastia mentioned that he was her boyfriend.

  6. Regarding the Kurt Browning interview: "Scott Hamilton started SOI as a place for skaters to get better." No, not a place to get better, Kurt. It's a place to get richer. Much richer.

Holy shit. That is the funniest thing I've read on here in a long time. Brava!

  9. Evan and Sasha...sure a good match but that won't be happening. Your going to see Evan with a bunch a lady 'friends' and that's it.

I wish worlds were in a neutral place...not Russia or Canada.

  10. Notice how gracefully Browning corrected the morning show hosts when they called him Olympic champion? -and still was charming, interesting, etc.
Others could take a page from that book....and we all know who could.....

Heh. Because the US is completely neutral and there's no politics going on at their competitions? Honestly, I don't think a neutral skating country exists -- at least not one that has top skaters.
