The Ice

Only a news clip of The Ice has been posted thus far, but I'm sure that countless more are on the way. The Japanese are good like that. They won't let All That Skate dominate the skating youtube universe.

I cannot wait to see Mao's exhibition again. Takahiko is looking rather adorable and Kanako looks ready to make a splash on the Grand Prix.

But let's talk about the Mai Asada situation. After a few years, the Kwan family gave up on shoving Karen down our throats. Now she works as a 'choreographer' from time to time, but we're pretty much done with her. She actually pulled off a good Mission program and then went away when her fifteen minutes were up.

The Asadas keep putting Mai out there. She's in commercials with Mao, in ice shows and is about on par with Fumie's sister in terms of skating skills.

Frankly, being constantly subjected to Mai, I'm reminded of another family who continually shoves a less talented older sister down our throats.

    It's none of your business.
Japanese fan loves her skating, beauty and adorable personality.
She has another talents than Mao and now studying in university for making her own career.

  2. She's definitely deteriorated, but I think she definitely has her merits. I think her ballet training really shows.

You know, Chika Suguri does shows too and she doesn't have the junior career that Mai does. It's only juniors, but being 4th in the World 2 times is hardly anything to sneeze at. Taking away Europeans, Mai's career isn't much worse than say Elene Gedevanishvili or Kiira Korpi who both can be seen in shows and ads.

  3. Tell me, what do you know about Mai Asada?
    Clearly, nothing.
You don't know we love her presence and we enjoy her skating and personality.
You don't know how big of a support she is to Mao.

If you don't like the Asada SISTERS, just don't post about them. We (Mao fans) would be extremely happy if you never pronounce their names again.

Just stay with your arrogance and laughing your ass off about the possibility of Mao losing the WC in Japan, like you said on your Formspring. That just shows what kind of a vile human you are.

  4. One more thing you forgot is that "The Ice" is their show. Mao and Mai show, so Mai can perform in it as much as she wants and you don't have the right to say anything.

And you are not being subjected to anyone, if you don't like Mai, you are not obligated to see her shows.

  5. Crazy fans are hilarious.

I don't mind Mai at all, particularly in commercials and tv appearances and such. For me, the warm fuzzy feeling I get from their sisterhood more than compensates for what Mai lacks in skating skills.

I can't say I ever felt the same about the Duff sisters, though. That was just obnoxious.

  6. I like Mao. I'd only laugh at her winning Worlds to Yu-Na because her fans would implode. They are already banking on a world title at home. If Mirai beats Mao, they will start posting videos of Mirai that accuse her of cheating every jump.

"You have no right..." Oh goodness.

  7. Even Mao's dog has commercials in Japan. I'm sure that dog has an amazing personality and is a wonderful support to Mao. Frankly, I think they should get him on skates.

  8. I'd also like to mention that Haylie has been a wonderful support to Hillary and that Our Lips Are Sealed is their song and she has been wonderful with supplying Hillary with coke for years.

And we (the other readers) would be extremely happy if you never comment here again. Sheep, I swear.

  11. Korpi and Elene I believe have much higher scores on the Senior level than Mai does. Korpi has a GP medal. And while yes the benefit from competiting in countries with weaker fields. I would point out to you that Elene is clearly the best skater in Georgia and Korpi is clearly the second best skater in Finland. And Korpi is absolutely breakthtakingly gorgeous. Both girls get their attention because of their own merits and not because they have a famous sibling.

I'd point out that the Japanese of course are entitled to like who they like. However, I'd suggest to you that there are quite a lot of girls in Japan who are better than Mai Asada and who don't get nearly the attention because their sisters aren't Mao. And there's frankly a real level of unfairness there.

  12. By now it is time to state flat out that Mirai Nagasu is absolute garbage as a competitor. She is the worst when she gets in the top three and then does a free skate. She is absolute garbage. The idea of her beating Mao Asada is absolutely hilarious. Nagasu is garbage- Completely as a competitor. She is a garbage competitor.

  13. To Bekalynn;

    > there are quite a lot of girls in Japan who are better than Mai Asada

"Better", maybe you are meaning that better skater at the competition.
We Japanese fan finds in Mai something better than other girls, even Mao, something only she and her skating has. That's why Japanese figure-skating fan longs to see Mai who cannot be seen at competitions these years.

    >And there's frankly a real level of unfairness there.

If there could be any unfairness, it is not the fact Mai is a sister of the world champion but the fact she was born with beauty.

  14. You Mao fans are aware that you can be someone's fan without worshiping everything related to them and disparaging everyone else in the field, right?

  15. I actually understand why Mai Asada is always packaged with her sister.
Unlike her sister, Mai has the looks and knows how to say clever things to the media.
Without Mai around, Mao would not get the half the media attention she is getting.

  16. And nobody is banking on a World title, I don't know where you read that but it wasn't any Mao fan, so before you writing things with so much conviction you should do some research to not shame yourself.

And I didn't know some of these stupid commenters had the right to tell which people should comment here or not, sorry bb, but if you are not the owner of the blog you can't tell anyone to not come here.

  17. Numerous Mao fans have written to me about her winning Worlds in Tokyo and asked if I think she'll pass Kwan.

  18. I wasn't aware that being from a weaker skating federation or being breathtakingly gorgeous was a merit either. Korpi & Elene the exception of Korpi's medal (which probably should have gone to Nagasu) & Euros, all three have almost the same range of placements & low chances of medaling with Mai even placing above them in some events. It's not like they are on radically different tiers.

I also don't see what's so "unfair" about giving people what they want. It's not like she got her GP placements because she was Mao's sister. The JSF had reasons to believe in her because of her past results.

Long story short, her amount of fame compared to her achievements is probably unwarranted, but it's not like she's some nobody. She's solidly tier 3 with Takeda, Sawada, etc and they've all been in shows, so I don't see what the big deal is. Would you rather see Onda or instead?

Mai placed ahead of both girls when they were all very young and different skaters peak at different times. There was a time when a lot of skaters finished ahead of Arakawa. But Arakawa is a world and olympic champ, the other skaters are not. I'm not saying that Elene or Kiiri will ever be champions, but I'm pointing out that now both girls have very much surpassed Mai and its for those accomplishments that get them attention. The facts are that both Elene and Kiira have personal bests that are 20 points higher than Mai's. So I'd say they pretty much are at a different level.

  20. "Numerous Mao fans have written to me about her winning Worlds in Tokyo and asked if I think she'll pass Kwan."

Many fans? How many exactly? Bc I am pretty sure this is just a really really small parcel of people who doesn't understand of follow the sport. You can't come here and make such a generalization, you moron!

"You Mao fans are aware that you can be someone's fan without worshiping everything related to them and disparaging everyone else in the field, right?"

Why would we hate Mai? She is lovely, great, humorous girl. There is just no reason to hate her, EVEN being a Mao fan, but maybe this is hard for you to understand.

  21. Ugh.. it will be such an embarrassment if Asada fails to win gold at upcoming Tokyo Worlds.
Japanese Federation literally had the rules rewritten for her, with the 70% rotation rule, boost in base value of the triple axel, just to mention a few.
Not winning gold will mean that she cannot buy a win, both literally and practically.

  22. They weren't talking about hating Mai, they were talking about hating Yu-Na.

  23. "You Mao fans are aware that you can be someone's fan without worshiping everything related to them and disparaging everyone else in the field, right?"
Lol. First of all, not all Mao fans are like that, so stop generalizing. Second, it's not like some Yuna fans don't do the same exact thing and to an even more extreme extent. Third, to the poster who said the new rules were made for her, then FYI, there are many skaters who have UR issues and they will all benefit from the new rules.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 70% rotation rule is dubbed the "Asada Rule" because it hands out most free points to
    Asada than anyone else.
Asada has never fully rotated a triple axel these couple of years and it is clear by looking at her jumps that she is not capable of doing them.
Her free leg not swinging around in time is the proof of this.

I also want to point out how stupid it is to claim that every skater will benefit from Asada Rule.
A Skater does not benefit from earning higher points unless she racks up more points than her competitors.
In this regard, no skater will benefit as much as Asada because not only is she the most prominent under-rotator, but she also unfairly receives high component scores with her phony triple axels.

Aside from Asada, skaters like Zhang and Cziney might benefit quite a bit, but who cares about them nowadays anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  25. As long as the judges ratify them, they are legite. That's all that matters. Who cares what you think? Your post just makes you sound like a Mao basher. *Yawn* And may I remind you Nagasu also suffers from UR and I'm sure a lot of people care about her nowadays.
