  1. So grateful for the videos of this when we can't even get a video of Nationals in our own country.

Aliona was totally out of control on that camel spin! Flukey mistake.

  2. Americans tend to be so nationalistic - perhaps its a blessing in disguise that our access to our own skaters is being curtailed while we have more and more access to skaters in other countries - it makes us more open-minded and helps us realize we are not just Americans, we are members of a global village.

  3. Russian Nationalism makes North American nationalism look amateurish beyond comprehension.

  4. Hey AJ:

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Seriously though - whoever is making this decision to limit Americans access to our own national event (be it the US Skating Federation, Comcast or whomever) - it just may have some unintended consequences.

  5. I think they're just not airing the short for whatever reason, but Ice Network is fairly inexpensive.

  6. I'm not saying the nationalism is good or bad in either case, it just 'is.'

  7. 9:49 PM, Believe me, I'm completely aware that I am part of a "global village" and have followed Europeans closely. (That's why I am posting on the Euros videos page). That doesn't make me any less anxious to watch US Nationals though. Icenetwork raised their subscription to $40 this season and all of the GP series can be watched for free on foreign streams. I couldn't see spending $40 just for Nationals week. I know it doesn't sound like that much money, but it is. We're watching all other country's competitions for free for goodness sake. Plus, the quality isn't even that good.

  8. So glad that even with the spin fluke, Aliona and Robin beat Smirnov and The Bride of Chuckie.

  9. Love the choreography for that Clair de Lune program but Yuko looks like some creepy voodoo ragdoll being tossed around.

As for nationalism, Russian nationalism is scary but I'd say that despite any images you have of Japan, Japanese nationalism can give the Russians a run for their money. Japanese nationalism has led many top officials in the Japanese government deny their war crimes, including torture and medical testing on humans in China, the Nanjing massacre and the institutionalized rape of 200,000 women. That's the equivalent of top German officials denying the Holocaust. Sadly, unlike Germany, you don't get arrested and jailed for denying WWII war crimes in Japan.

And you wonder why the Yunabots and Maobots are at each other all the time.

  10. Difference between Russian, Japanese, American sporting fans is that unlike Americans, both Russian and Japanese spectators will cheer for athletes not from their nations. Also in Russia, skating fans tend to be more knowledgeable, so they will actually have favorite skaters irregardless of nationalities and root for them thusly.

Bazarova needs more air in her jumps, they're positively anemic and tiny.

  11. Bazarova's jumps used to be even LOWER, if you can imagine that. Her technique is bizarre to say the least.

  12. Yeah, Bazarova's jumps have improved a lot. She couldn't even rotate a triple before, but now she is pretty consistent. It's....improvement, at least. But they aren't pretty.

  13. If you think Americans are bad figure skating spectators, try the new generation of Canadian fans on PChiddy crack.

  14. I'm shocked that you can miss one whole element, stand there stunned for 10 seconds, BOTH skaters double a triple sal and that sal look ugly and still win that comp! Some of the other elements weren't as nice either. Talk about Injustice!!!! All K/S did wrong was the last lift was a little off because he put his foot down. I know people don't like them for whatever reason, but that night they delivered two good programs and didn't get their gold! Sorry Russia

  15. The Germans have the ugliest death spiral EVERY! See picture above!
