She's so BURRRTIFUL!!!!i loved that look to the side she always did before VT
Love her! That is all!
SIGH. So much Lilia love. I must have watched 1996 compulsories 200 times and I am still just as amazed by her work as I ever have been. Why can't gymnastics always look like this????
SIGH. I was 15 when I watched these Olympics and was totally amazed by her. Her compulsories where awesome, but her optional routines were also breathtaking. Even though her floor music was cheesy, her combo of acrobatics and dance was great. In my lifetime so far (1980 - present), my favorite all-arounder hands down. This is what Women's Artistic Gymnastics should be, someone should remind Nellie Kim and the FIG immediately. You don't see this kind of finish and polish anymore, which is disappointing.
sigh... Lilia's compulsories are so lovely. I always liked being "named" after her (my name is Lillian)
I'm glad she peaked when she did. I love her. Power + Artistry = Total Love.
I think her and Silivas were the best compulsory gymnasts.
That Floor Compulsory was to DIE for.God I loved Compulsories.
Thanks! Could you explain what the compulsories counted toward- both as a team and as an individual? For example, as an individual, did they just count toward making it into the all around final, or did they also count in the medal round? Ditto team medals...
They counted for Team and then for qualification to AA and Event Finals.Since 1997, World and Olympic Team medals are determined solely by the scores in team finals. Team prelims qualify you for team finals, AA finals and event finals.Back in the day, compulsories and optionals were added together to determine who won the gold, silver and bronze in the team.In 1992 and 1996, your compulsory total + your optional total qualified you for the AA Finals and Event Finals. AA medals and EF medals were determined by new life, meaning your scores from the team competition were not added to your scores in the final. One earned medals solely be their performance in the final.Back in Nadia's day, the scores from compulsories and team optionals were averaged and added to the event finals score in order to determine the rankings. This was done away with following the 1988 Olympic Games.Svetlana Boginskaya was the first person to win AA at Worlds under new life. Had the old system been in effect, Natalia Laschenova would've won the AA Title because her Team AA Total+AA Final Total was higher.
One of my all time favorite gymnasts! Thanks for posting these.
Lilia love makes me ill. Damn that Mo Huilan and her inconsistancy.Lilia's bars were level 8 and anyone else would have been scored for it.
