The Return of Yu-Na Kim

Kim Yu-Na? Yu-Na Kim? Yuna Kim? YNK? I don't care what we are calling her, she is BACK and NAILED her short program at the NRW Trophy, including her nemesis Triple Flip jump for a 72.27. As if Mao Asada's life isn't bad enough on the anniversary of her mother's death, her rival returns to demolish her own big win this weekend.

What do you make of The Kiss of the Vampire?

  1. I'm a long-time fan of hers (yeah yeah notice I'm a Kim too but whatever) and nearly shitting myself, Yuna is still as awesome as she always was. She's finally got her shits back together and with a short like this she will CREAM everyone at Worlds. She's back everyone. Sochi 2014. There's no one like her. AH :)

  3. poor mao! it really must be rough, i'm glad her gpf performance was lovely. the long program is growing on me and there are positively beautiful choreographic moments... and my innate korean nationality/yuna fangirl was doing its best to look for flaws in mao's performances.

yuna kim's short program on the other hand. i think it suffers from bad music? like the first half is not bad, jumps in time with music, little nuances, but during the step sequence the music is a little slow with the heavy chords, but she skates her step sequence normally so she is not skating with the music, just through it. idk, not a fan of the music, not a fan of the program, even though i'm a huge kim yuna fan..

i am way more excited for les mis tomorrow, ahhh!!!!

  7. I dislike the music cuts and choreography, but her skating skills and jumps will make her nearly impossible to beat if she continues like this.

On a sidenote, gorgeous flying camel spin, but she seems to have lost her Biellmann for good, which is a pity.

  9. I think her jumps/spins look GREAT - very impressive.

I actually like the music quite a bit - nice to hear something new - but YuNa seems very disconnected from it and is not selling it at all. Maybe the music is not a good fit, but I'm inclined to think she is working on the elements now and will work on polishing the choreography later.

  10. Looks like an early season run by technically superior skater. The music is great, and I predict she will develop into the music by Worlds. Many missed nuances. Would be fun to see that piece skated by a performing Diva. Perhaps she will be come one!

  13. For Yuna, Sochi would be easier to win OGM than vancouver.

Most of all, Thank Speedy for making the stupid minimum TES rule which forced Yuna to join the competition earlier (unlike 2011 worlds).

  14. Girl looks so skinny. I really hope that she gets her biellmann back! Def needs more work with spins but really, this is amazing and I'm so happy she didn't pull a Nastia or a Sasha. I hope she does well at Sochi! Ladies competition really needed some more fire. Overall I weirdly like the music but I think she needs more time to get into it. Early in the season for her, so no real complaints.

  15. She looks great. I was cheering for Mao because I figured Yuna already has her gold and I wasn't impressed with how that whole coaching scandal went down, plus Mao deserves a little bit of happiness in her life lol. But now Yuna is back and looks great.

I can already see the SK skating association forcing her to continue all the way to Pyeongchang though, oh dear.

  18. I don't think Mao needs to feel down about the return of Yuna. Her free program at the GPF actually scored slightly higher than Kim's and if Kim's stamina issues persist throughout the season, than Mao and Ashley both have a good shot at catching her if they can add the 3-3 that both have talked about adding later in the season.

Plus losing her mother caused Mao to mature very much. I don't think that her old rivalry is something she takes to heart any longer.

    1. Remember though, Mao had a much cleaner, fall-less program and not to mention numerously performed as well. It would be weird for her not to feel nervous; she really wants the Sochi Olympic gold and now Yuna is back in a good form. And it's quite unlikely for Yuna to have a worse stamina later in the season
