It was a truly stupid decision not to send him to Worlds. Like I said in the other thread, it's very hard to get that third spot back once it's gone, and with TV ratings and interest in skating at its lowest point in recent memory in the US already, was it really the most intelligent course of action not to send our highest internationally ranked men's skater? Methinks not.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-42791387564043113402011-04-29T17:47:04.410-07:002011-04-29T17:47:04.410-07:00AJ, no Johnny Weir included for the next season?AJ, no Johnny Weir included for the next season?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-18827394293556084712011-04-29T11:54:21.955-07:002011-04-29T11:54:21.955-07:00" I understand that everyone has different ta..." Although I am a fan of Patrick, I get why some people aren't. However, I don't understand how anyone can deny that he brought it this season. He improved hugely from last season, and clearly put in the hard work necessary. He deserved this win.

I don't like the Phantom program, so I'm looking forward to seeing him in a (hopefully) better vehicle next season. Come on, Lori. It really annoyed me when they marked him so highly in the short program. I could see that medal coming. Let's face it - if Taka, Oda and Brezina hadn't screwed up, I don't think they could have got away with that 'arrangement'. Incidentally, I could watch Brezina all day.

Home cooking - it disgusted me in Dortmund 2004 and it disgusts me now.Leonoranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-10328834743562563882011-04-28T21:30:39.654-07:002011-04-28T21:30:39.654-07:00(X) is when an element receives 10% bonus base val...(X) is when an element receives 10% bonus base value for being performed after the halfway point of the programAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-43245061381264989602011-04-28T20:49:19.911-07:002011-04-28T20:49:19.911-07:00What do the Xs mean? What do the Xs mean?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-80462306016925966622011-04-28T20:42:48.244-07:002011-04-28T20:42:48.244-07:00Lambiel, when he was competing, certainly. Then, like many of you, he really started to annoy me with his frequent comments about others' skating-- to the point that I couldn't root for him or even really watch him anymore.
I ignored his skates this season, especially with the recycled program, but then I did just watch his performances at Worlds- his long from Russian TV is on youtube now. As annoying as he has been, there's really no denying that he brought it this season and addressed the challenge.... I mean, who would have thought that he would land 6 clean quads between Canadian Nationals and Worlds? Especially compared to his jump content from previous seasons? He's clearly much more well-rounded than most other consistent 2-quad FS skaters-- level 4 footwork and spins and can take an intricate program. His basic skating skills are still among the best in the world, and while the program is definitely not an all-time great IMO (I've never liked a single Phantom program, including Davis/White), he DID land 2 quads.

I guess all that is to say that while I wish he didn't say all he did, he had no real competition at these worlds with the performances he put down. I'm once again impressed by him... no rabid Chan love here--I respect his skating. Count me in as another one that doesn't get the complete Chan-hate, given how well-rounded he actually is. Well-rounded is not the same as exciting. Well-rounded is a quantifiable value in the scoring system, compared to if someone is "worth watching." So, I understand that everyone has different tastes, and his programs will just not do it for many, and people roll their eyes at his record scores, but who else right now actually deserved to beat his worlds performances? No one... because no one else currently has the technical content across all areas combined with the skating skills and transitions.gymengineernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-74172078984097932972011-04-28T20:30:08.166-07:002011-04-28T20:30:08.166-07:00I'm just going to pretend Kozuka won.I'm just going to pretend Kozuka won.paulinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13905103372733278208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-44750168018928377552011-04-28T20:05:57.426-07:002011-04-28T20:05:57.426-07:00I was also shocked that the commentators didn'...I was also shocked that the commentators didn't mention the vocals in the music. WTF? Maybe I'm just becoming crotchety and old-fashioned, but I'm kind of mad about the ISU allowing this. Just imagine all the crap we'll get for programs if they start allowing vocals for free skates! Competitions will look like exhibitions, and half the junior ladies will skate to Glee or Disney radio. His quads were very good, especially on the combo. But he made mistakes.
