Live-Event Finals Day 3

Well here we are. Final day of artistic gymnastics at these Olympics! Catalina's Leo is ready for beam and floor!

Parallel Bars start off the day.

First competitor is Zhang from China. Falls off on his peach half. Boy are these advertisements on NBC's feed annoying.

Sabot does a clean routine. Gets a 15.566.

Marcel Nyguyen! Love this handsome German!

Feng Zhe up. Shannon Miller says he can take the gold here. He's happy with his routine. Do we get a commercial after every routine? Sigh. 15.966! Looks like he's the one to beat.

Here's Marcel. Great routine with an unique full-twisting double back dismount. 15.8 to go into 2nd.

Here is a link to a BBC feed: http://www.time4tv.net/2012/02/live-sports-channel-5.html

15.336 for Corral from Mexico.

I'll be back in a minute. Have to restart my computer because it keeps crashing.

Your Parallel Bars Podium:
Gold-Feng Zhe (China)
Silver-Marcel Nguyen (Germany)
Bronze-Hamilton Sabot (France)

AJ here in time for beam. We can only imagine how strong the bitch face of Viktoria Komova will be today and whether or not she will force herself not to bobble based on the sheer force of her bitchy personality.

It was wonderful seeing Marcel Nugyen on the podium and imagining my hair ever looking that good. Alas, I freak the moment mine touches my ears.

"This techno Chariots of Fire is very '90s."-Uschi Keszler

Iordache has been subbed in for Bulimar.  Given her shaky performance due to her injury, we will wait and see if it was worth it or as futile as Belu throwing Marinescu a bone in Atlanta.

Our Chinese daughters have not performed up to expectations these games. Will it be back to the orphanage after beam finals?

I love the BBC

Sui Lu hits a fantastic beam set. Just one step back on her back pike and a little low step forward on her double pike dismount. It looks like a medal for sure. She surely did this to ruin Komova's day.

"Poor Romanian Grandma went to hospice care. Pornstar is going to show the rookies how it is done."-UK

Ponor has been worthless in World and Olympic competition since her return. She has hit every small competition (even Euros), but the pressure of what is at stake has gotten to her every time. She wobbled to a 2 1/2 turn to start and you knew it was over. Bitch never makes these errors. My inner Peggy Liddick is coming out and ready to be nasty to her. Why bother? Where is your mojo?  Much too high 15.066.

Deng Linlin rocks a set to capitalize on Ponor's bad day. It is amazing how she has all of the Chinese form and technique, yet none of the artistry or flair. It looks almost boyish.

"The Chinese girls are competing for their half cup of rice for supper."-Uschi Keszler

Deng-a-Ling into first with a 15.600.

Iordache pulls a Marinescu and is off on her back full. Grandma could've done better than that.

"Grandma Bulimar is crying foul."

At least we didn't have to pretend that Grandma is good.

Sui Lu is crying as BBC shows side-by-side Chinese sheep jumps.

Afan- looks draggishly stunning and makes an unnecessary wobble on her barani. Big steps back on the double tuck. I love him, but he is just not at the level of the beam final. My love for the Russian leotard knows no limits.

"First man to place his balls on that beam. He did about 12 leaps and 1 tumbling pass to avoid hurting the family jewels."-UK

Sui Lu still wiping tears.

Will the real Gabby return on beam?  The answer is yes.  After the switch 1/2, the world has returned to its usual order. First AA champ not to medal in individual apparatus finals.

"Flying squirrel hit a tree."

She needs a nap.

Komova looking lovely in my favorite leotard. And she bobbles on the L turn. Off on the punch front and just looks over it. Misses the dismount and says fuck it.

"She is going all Britney circa 2007 on us. I really fear for her life."-Uschi Keszler

Komova doesn't even look at her score and checks her manicure. True diva bitch. God love her.

Aly- :"Uh oh, they call her punchy. She's been anointed fat by the Brits."-UK. If she medals with this piece of shit...

The judges deduct for all of the lack of split and amplitude in the routine. The general public is going to cry foul. NBC is going to pounce all over it. Ponor's score was extremely high, but Aly's was extremely disgusting and offensive to anyone who ever took up anything related to the world of dance or stretching.

"Pornster obviously werked it somewhere important."

"4th, she is the Angela Nikodinov of the Olympics."-UK

I can't feel that sorry for Aly Raisman. Given her level of disgustingness, it is a Hughes-family miracle that she is an Olympic Champion.

Mihai is protesting. The issue is that Aly was scored appropriately, yet Ponor was gifted.

The BBC is showing equestrian. I didn't know the British girls were in another event final.

Some will debate whether Aly was robbed. I say that if we had compulsories like we should, girlfriend would never even make the Olympic Team.

If anyone is being robbed, it is Sui Lu. Deng Linlin has always been a member of the Hughes family.

Like a true future attorney, Raisman submits an inquiry for bronze and is accepted. Someone file one for Sui Lu. Have Raisman do it...she really only has one option for a future profession. She certainly isn't going to be a dance teacher.

Is Mr. Raisman an attorney? I have suspicions he is EXACTLY like Mr. Hughes.

My feed is now showing wind surfing. I am missing Cata's beautiful reaction.

Shawn Johnson to Deng Linlin...the real prize needs to be Balance Beam silver unless you want to lose your lunch.

"Will Leyva get a root canal on high bar again?!"-Uschi Keszler

Personally, I'm a fan of canceling the medal ceremony when people perform like they did in vault and beam finals. Nelli Kim needs to run down, shake her head and say, "Just, no."

Danell is as amazing on high bar as Yin Alvarez is insufferably annoying. The step on the gold should keep another Robin Wagner from coaching an Olympic Champion. 15.833. Danell is a tad big and sloppy up there...crooked on several handstands.

Zhang Chenglong needs a Biore face strip and the routine hasn't even started.  He rocks his set and is off balance on his dismount, but holds it. 16.266.

Zou Kai Hughes 16.366.

HUGE routine for Fabian, the male Anna Pavlova. Will the hop kill his gold chances?

16.400!

"Hamburger is getting the crowd to chant 100% pure beef."-Uschi Keszler

"So will Zou Kai Raisman-Hughes his way to a gold medal?"-Tarasova's Mink

"The judges loving it. No vegans on this panel."-Uschi Keszler

Now, Netherlands Mop Head may have done it!!!!

"This man is a monkey. The flying monkey. The flying Justin Bieber monkey."-UK

Another gold record for the Flying Justin Bieber Monkey...16.533.

Jonathan So Yesterday Horton had the routine of his life going until the step back on the dismount. Peggy Liddick would like to let him know that he did the same thing four years ago.

"High bar has turned into a dick swinging contest and Epke has a 12-incher. I'm feeling it."-Tarasova's Mink

Horton looks over these Olympics...and Yin Alvarez.

"Garibov would've placed seventh in the women's field."-Uschi Keszler

"I want Epke to top Fabian."-WestPalmBitch

Let us cheer on Afanasyeva and Izbasa so that none of the butch American girls end the Olympics on a sour Shawn Johnson note.

"I am more prone to the twin haircuts of fellow Germans Boy and Nguyen. Hamburger is a bit too beefy."-Tarasova's Mink

"I'm ready to get a fever. I need a fever to make me delusional so I can get through Wiebersaurs. Ponor is going to BRING IT after Raisman overshadowed her."-Uschi Keszler

"I can't wait for tonight's generous coverage of men's high bar, where we will see Leyva, a replay of Leyva's bar routine in the AA, a replay of his fluff piece with Seacrest and then an instant replay the gold and silver medal performances followed by the final standings with an unseen performance by the bronze medalist."-Tarasova's Mink

Lauren Mitchell, Jordyn Wieber, Vanessa Ferrari and Aly Raisman are all in the same final. Where's Jana Bieger?

And a stumble out of bounds for Afanasyeva :(  And in Russian style she goes out of bounds again.

"Do we think Maroney has been feeding Izbasa Kalteen bars in preparation for floor finals?"-Tarasova's Mink

"There was just too much testosterone in that floor today."-Uschi Keszler

I hope Ksenia goes Zamo on us and sticks around for another eight years past her sell-by date.

And Jordyn flies back. Grace be to God. I judge that Dvora Meyers for talking up this piece of shit. Bad double pike landing. OOB on the second as well.

"The men are just not wanting to stay confined to the floor today."-UK

Thank goodness we don't have to survive Geddert having an Individual Olympic Champion

14.500

Raisman is about to be Olympic Champion. LOW split leap after the piked double arabian. The triple full is just getting around. It is going to be difficult to top that.

Pass the dreidel.  15.600

Ponor is rocking dance of the old whores.  This is reminiscent of Pam Anderson trying to prove that she still belongs on the cover of Playboy. 15.200

Lauren Mitchell- I haven't missed her these Olympics. Laughable leap out of the second pass. Stumbling about. Stumbled out of the third pass.

Douglas and Raisman may have an Individual Golds and Maroney may not...something is wrong with this picture.

"From pornstar to eighth grade dance routine."-Uschi Keszler

"I detest Mitchell. Lisa Skinner and I are pissed that she is a World Champion on floor."-Tarasova's Mink

14.833

Vanessa looking disgusting again. This piece of shit may medal. I can't deal with what Mother Nature has done to her, but she doesn't make it any easier with her leotard choices.

"I love that she owns her trashiness."-Tarasova's Mink

14.900

Aliya is nailing this like the fierce bitch that she is. Why can't she stick or leap out of the double tuck:? It isn't like she's special like Jordyn Wieber. Rocks a triple full in the tuck position to close. Please put her ahead of Ferrari.

"Aliya only has a 5.9 if I recall. Of course, if we are grading on a Raisman execution curve, this routine will earn an 11."-Tarasova's Mink

14.900 and into 3rd queen of tiebreaks

HAIDEEEE SANDRA     Nailing it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Crashes her last pass.

Thew Raisman-Hughes Jewish miracles continue. Hanukkah really does go on for eight nights when you consider the world was made in seven days.

And now half of the annoying gymnastics fans on this blog prove they are merely patriotic and have no taste.

"Congratulations, McKayla. Your future in the dark arts looks promising. And to wait for the final pass, too. Cheeky."-Tarasova's Mink

"I can see that smirk right now."-Uschi Keszler

Well, at least Aly kept us from having to deal with Geddert in All-Around finals. I guess we can throw her a gold medal for keeping that Robin Wagner moment from happening.

I'm so disgusted, I'm going to consume calories.

  9. Wow what a great Olympics this has been for Marcel Nguyen. Loved his original dismount!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Alright, beam! Let's do this!

    ReplyDelete
  11. these girls really need to pack some oil-blotting tissues!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ponor over 15? No fucking way. I'm sick to death of the judges holding up her routines. When she hits, she's awesome, but when she misses she does not deserve these higher scores. I hope she's not on the podium.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Her fall was very Yang Bo. It's a compliment!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Komova had a big chance there. Horrible performance. Raisman can grab this bronze easy if she can remember how to compete beam again.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The curse of the white leo strikes again!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh, Komova. Yes, the natural order has truly returned, at least on beam. Aside from the Chinese, what an ugly final.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm so over Komova's attitude. You're an Olympic athlete, for God's sake! Stop giving up! This is a huge part of the reason why most mainstream sports fans don't take gymnastics seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ugh, I hate that Aly missed the podium but she gave away too much today. Her execution is already lower than everyone else and she missed connections, too many balance checks, big hop on the dismount. As much as it pains me to say it, Ponor probably deserved the bronze but only because everyone else fell and Afan's difficulty wasn't quite up to snuff.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Aly adds her name to a long line of 4th places queens: Baitova, Produnova, Pavlova.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You cannot possibly compare Raisman with any of those greats.

      Delete
    2. the difference between aly and the other 4th place queens is that the others deserved medals. aly and her fug do not. afanasyeva and her beauty should have at least finished in front of clubfoot

      Delete
    3. Certainly I was not, save that one factor. Regardless of who the person is, though, having so many fourth places must suck. In any case, it apparently no longer applies!

      Delete
  20. Raisman was scored appropriately, but Ponor's was a gift. The error after the back handspring full should have knocked her below 15 by itself. Medium deduction on the double turn and .3 step on the dismount. How did they get that number?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Amen. I loved her back in the day, but the judges seem determined to score that gymnast. Ponor right now is not delivering in the big competitions anymore.

      Delete
    2. The judges are now going to really hold up Ponor on floor and hammer Raisman if she makes any mistakes on floor. I agree that the judges are determined to hold up Ponor.

      Delete
  21. Khorkina needs to come and toughen Vika up! Vika's got the talent, and all she needs is the attitude. I mean, we saw it during her floor routine in the AA, but then there are some rumors floating around that she's having psychological problems.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Psych problems, yeah. She thinks she's God's gift to gymnastics, but God hit the snooze button this morning. Beam was pathetic... 'Oh, I'm a little off balance, I guess I'll just hop off because I'm just not feeling it, today.'

      Delete
  22. Poor Aly! I would rather be 27th than 4th! Just missing out on a medal (twice) has to be crushing.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Holy shit, a tie that goes to Aly! Have to agree that Ponor was gifted, so this is the right result.

    ReplyDelete
  24. What!? A protest ties Aly with Cata, and then Aly wins the tie breaker. Karma has come full circle I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wait - a tiebreaker! Someone explain please..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In event final with ties the execution score is examined and the highest one wins. If they are the same both get the medal a change from 08 where in bars the e score matched and they dropped lowest

      Delete
    2. But why did her score get raised? It was 14. something to begin with.

      Delete
  26. Say what you want about Aly but she fully deserved that medal! Congrats to her!

-What's next for Komova? Baby Girl has cemented her status as a total headcase.Time for RUS to get her sports psychology.
-This was probably the worst Olympic beam final I've ever seen. What a disaster.

    1. Maybe she can go back to Round Lake and finish training her Amanar with Paseka lololol. I'm sure Grishina is heading back to the gym when she gets back to Russia....she has more talent we've yet to see.

  29. Sui totally deserved that gold. If only she'd thrown in her turn combo! She looked on on the L-turn, but she might have been rushing it.

I can't believe *the Chinese* of all people hit on beam, and in event finals no less. And both of them, too! Even when Lu Li and Liu Xuan medalled, the other sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Whoa, Aly!! Beam Olympic bronze medalist!!! Cata's leo will have something to say about that during floor finals.

So far none of the ladies who qualified first (with the exception of team) in event finals won gold. We'll see how floor goes!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sui Lu could not be more of a sourpuss. I would say "grow up" but she's probably only 12 anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Took off her medal but had to put it back on for more photographs! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think the moment they're out of the arena, Sui is going to beat the crap out of Deng and grab the gold.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sui Lu is going to have Deng LinLin's head.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I feel so bad for Sui Lu. A silver is good, but in China a gold does much more than a silver. It gets you into top universities and gives you much more money and fame, and basically gives you a great head start in life after retirement. I hope she will realise that an Olympic silver is a great achievement too.

And I hope she sticks around and get her Sui salto on beam.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anyone know what the substance of Raisman's protest was? What didn't she get credited for initially?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The initially didn't count the switch full to back pike.

  37. If Zou Kai wins, I don't know I'll have the strength to even watch floor finals. How can a high bar routine with *three* kip casts win gold?

    ReplyDelete
  38. So over this Olympics. Beijing was more exciting.
Cant wait for worlds next year!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Great high bar final! Made up for the shiteous beam. I would have put Zhang over Zou. Otherwise, I think the standings were all correct.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I wanted Jonathan Horton to win this so bad!!! He stuck his dismount four years ago, and had much cleaner execution than Zou, which made it even more super annoying Zou won with his lackluster routine and step on his dismount. Sigh. Oh well. Happy for Epke and that Fabian got one better than in Beijing!

    ReplyDelete
  41. come on aly and jordyn. bring it home! aly quit playing it safe and go for it!

  51. Wow, Aly tops Ponor twice! I certainly did not expect that, but well-deserved for Aly. She rocked the floor today!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Izbasa just Brossed her routine. Raisman were indeed the cleanest in tumbling, but the dance left a lot to be desired.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Did Ferrari get 4th because of that Leo?

    2. Amen! I'm the first to decry the dearth of artistry these days, but she hit. Plus, once again, execution is a hell of a lot more than toepoint! Good tumbling technique is more complex than that. Fellow former gymnasts, back me up here??

      Delete
    3. Agreed. I don't care if you look like a ballerina if you FALL ON YOUR BUTT. Hit or lose a medal. The end.

      Delete
    4. Hopefully Aly will stick around and we'll see her in more World Championhips and maybe even Rio. As disappointed as you are, maybe it's you who should just quit, go away and save yourself the aggravation.

  59. "And now half of the annoying gymnastics fans on this blog prove they are merely patriotic and have no taste."

LOL... snark at gymnasts, but don't bite the hand that feeds you.

    ReplyDelete
  60. First a disclaimer: I love Aly Raisman, she's sweet, a real hard-worker and a nice girl, it seems.
Having said that, this is most likely the peak of her gymnastics career, her top shape.
Yet ,she still can't point her toes or have any clean form.
Imagine her from this point on OR attempting a comeback like Sacramone did.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What's your point??? I would think anyone would be pretty damn happy with two golds and a bronze being the peak. Sacramone has no Olympic gold. This is by far the stupidest comment I've ever seen.

    2. So basically, headcasing ballerinas like Afan and Komova should win gold despite falling on their butts or jumping off beam? Give me a break!

    Replies
    1. THANK YOU for addressing this! I didn't want to be the one to bring this up because I really do like Mustafina, but let's be honest: her triple full has been hideous her entire career, and Ponor's isn't much better.

      Delete
    2. Exactly - Mustafina's form on her triple full is ATROCIOUS - so bad that it is actually distracting - How ironic for all the ballerina worshipers on here

      Delete
  64. There's no denying her tumbling is excellent, and she HITS!
But it would really improve her performance more polishing and better dance.
    Again, congrats to her.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Uh, she won the gold medal. She must be OK.

      Delete
    2. She freaking won the GOLD medal. Nothing to improve there. She's on top. This makes no sense.

      Delete
    3. Yes, because the Code of Points is perfect, and judges are always right, so gold always means great.

      Delete
    4. It means she was the best today, and that's all that effing matters. It's called sport. Come to win or go home. The end.

      Delete
    5. OP wasn't arguing with that. Aly totally deserved to win, but it's absolutely true that better dance would improve her *performance.* But, if all you care about is who wins, rather than the art *and* sport of gymnastics itself, sign yourself up for the FIG, because they're looking for people like you. :)

      Delete
    6. LMAO!!!! When you have an Olympic gold in your hands, you could really care less about whether you should have been more artistic.

      Delete
    7. Dude. The "artistic" ones obviously don't know how to compete in an Olympic games. They have no mental game. Do you understand how gymnastic works?

      Delete
    8. Some people definitely *could* care less, because right now, some people care a lot - and there's nothing wrong with that. That is, there's nothing wrong with both congratulating Aly on a worthy win (as OP did) AND wishing that artistic gymnastics could, indeed, be more artistic (as OP also did). Because it is possible. I would say Gabby is there, or close to there, and Nastia was certainly there - all while hitting. That doesn't mean anyone who beat them didn't deserve it, but that doesn't mean it's ideal, either, when it does happen.

But if gold is gold is gold, then I say let's just make it a tumble off. That wouldn't necessarily be bad, but the powers that be can stop pretending that gymnastics is anything other than that.

      Delete
    9. Your argument makes no sense. Even if artistry were of a higher value under the CODE, those that would benefit from such a change did not take a advantage - they went OOB, had steps or fell on their butts. So your point is moot when it comes to this particular floor final.

      Delete
    10. Again, no one's argument (at least, on this subthread of posts) was about *winning* but the *performance.* Aly FULLY deserved to win (and her form is arguably better than the other medalists). But she's definitely not the most artistic gymnast out there. People might not care - and that's fine, too! In that case, there should be no pretense that artistry matters, like the current code pretends it does. Let me repeat, this doesn't affect this floor final, or who should have won it. *No one on this subthread has argued that anyone other than Aly deserved to win.*

      Delete
    11. From that documentary, I think Aly is completely aware of her strengths and weaknesses. I don't think she would say artistry doesn't matter just because it doesn't come naturally to her. Her dance actually has improved. It's pretty poor, but she doesn't ignore it, and I imagine she'll keep trying to better herself for the rest of her career.

      Delete
  65. Aly has the most medals of any American. This was unexpected but I'm happy for her. I'm sure she and her parents are bawling.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I find it ironic that of all the floor finalist Aly got the best execution score with a 9.10.

But on reflection its not so shocking that her execution was the best in comparsion to the rest her landings were the best, and when you consider that both mustafina, ponor also get sloppy on the triple twist and when you even out aly's flex feet aganist the other's landing deduction she comes out on top.

I don't like Aly's floor in general its robotic and...(can't think of another adjective I just have a picture of Bross's floor as to what I think of this one).

But on this day Aly performed the best. She clearly isn't the best in the world, but as I have just been reminded in vault, bars, and beam finals it doesn't matter who is the best in the world it matters who puts up when the clock starts ticking down.

    Go Aly!!

    1. Vika. At least Wieber has a gold.

    2. Make that two golds for Aly. Gee, I thought Komova was the second coming of Comaneci? Hmmm.

    3. Grishina! I can't with that girl.

    4. Jordyn. She's an instant footnote, while people are passionately debating Vika's future.

Vika and Gabby in event finals. Thanks Shawn and Nastia for a better rivalry!

Iordache. She had the goods before the untimely flareup of her injury.

People who thought they won medals and then didn't (stupid tiebreaks and Ukraine men victim of judging error). Stop toying with athletes' emotions!

    5. Are you kidding me? Jordyn may have had a rough Olympics, but she is not a headcase or a choker. VIka, on the other hand, is a headcase who choked on everything she did, and she gave up on beam. She is DONE unless she learns how to compete - and finds a sports psychologist.

      Delete
    6. 12:15 here. I'm actually agreeing with you though. Vika will either be an epic failure or regroup to show us something amazing. Either way she is interesting. On the other hand, I believe Jordyn has given it her best shot and just wasn't good enough. Unless she has the ability to upgrade, she's proven herself expendable.

      Delete
    7. It's almost hilarious the way people are s--- on Jordyn's future. I'm not even a fan, but the girl has basically one crappy meet. Vika, on the other hand, has had NUMEROUS meets in which she headcased and/or simply gave up are making an error. Maybe people should look at their records before writing Jordyn off. It's a helluva lot easier to work on upgrades than it is to improve psychological/mental toughness issues.

  70. Geddert just said that Wieber has been dealing with a stress fracture since camp. She's getting a boot tomorrow. Wow.

    1. Is Geddert trying to blame Martha for an injured Jordyn. That blowhard needs to take a look at himself. Jordyn had no upgrades in an Olympic year.

    2. Did USAG know about the stress fracture, or do they get to fine her like USFS fined Flatt?

    3. The feelings I have towards Geddert's post-performance announcement is how I feel about all injury announcements of the sort, it's a convenient excuse to lay your poor performance on.

      Examples:
Nastia Liukin following her '06 ankle injury that's all we've heard following her missed competitions its not 100%. But that didn't stop her from winning beam gold 07 or American cup 08. In gymnastics injuries only matter when you lose.

      Delete
    4. Except Jordyn got 4th and 7th here, not 14th like Flatt when she got fined. Flatt's placement was 7th on a GOOD day!

      Delete
    5. Keri Strug landed a vault on torn ligaments in her ankle. Musty blew out her knee. I swear, I can't stand Jordan's camera mugging coach. I'm going to need to see the actual X-rays. Why crap on Aly's success today?

      Delete
    6. I want to see images too. Who doesn't take their Star Athlete to get an MRI when she can no longer run routines and practice? Who doesn't at least the wrap the injured body part for a bit of protection? She's been fine in London all week but NOW when it's time to go home she needs a boot? He's full of crap, and he's just trying to save face. Gabby's had an ankle injury since March, but we don't hear Chow saying that's why she fell off of the Beam today. Lame.

    2. Don't kid yourself. Vika had the chance to win 4 Olympic Gold medals. One of them wasn't her fault, her team imploded but even if they didn't USA was still going to win

AA she wandered around off the vault mat like a lost puppy

      Bars she hit her foot

Beam she wobbled and bobbled and fell her way through like she didn't give a fuck.

  72. In 10 years no one will remember Aly. She won gold so what . Her gymnastics does not inspire. It's consistent, not inventive. She has no elements named after her. Maybe we can start calling incomplete splits and non existent toe point the " Raisman ".
Komova, Mustafina, Gabby , Maroney those names will endure because there's something special in their routines. Theres soul and integrity. Something that last and leaves an impression long after the last stuck landings, long after the competition is over.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Amen. Except for Gabby, I don't see anything particulary special on her gymnastics. She's perfect but doesn't inspire me.

    2. Gabby has spunk and fire. You gotta admit when she flashes that smile it's game over. Hope she makes millions in endorsements.

    3. bitter much?

I don't see your gold medal anywhere.

      Delete
    4. They might not remember Aly. But they will remember Vika...as a class-A choker who didn't live up to her reputation, gave up on beam, and basically was the biggest bust ever. Which category would you rather be in???

      Delete
    5. Whose 'they'? Do you mean you? If you don't remember Aly in ten years (and I think you're lying to yourself) who cares? She'll still have at least three Olympic medals-two of them gold in her trophy case. I couldn't stand her gymnastics but the woman EARNED those medals. She deserved them over opponents who imploded, or peaked too soon, or simply headcased. She hit when it counted. I won't think about Raisman much but when I think back on the London Games-I'm going to remember them all-INCLUDING Aly Raisman. And be careful what you wish for-she may be back in Rio winning even more hardware!

  73. Aly's routines are as flat as her monotone voice. But I think she did well, overall. She is a tough competitor and has worked her ass off.
If Jordyn claims to have an injury....whatever. You cannot stay on top forever.

  74. Congrats to Aly. Still I doubt if she will win over any fans. Gabby was and always will be the star of these games. Poor Aly has gold but will always be known for her ugly lines and boring routines. Carly Patterson is that you?

Don't look now, but Aly Raisman's twitter followers ballooned from about 3000 to 381,307 at last count. ;) Vault Queen McKayla Maroney's twitter followers are up to 321,608, in spite of Olympic disappointment star-crossed Jordyn Wieber's at 437,367, in spite of less exposure than her teammates the less-celebrated Rookie Kyla Ross is at 183,584, and last but not least Super Squirrel Gabby Douglas is at 599,550. Sure some of them will fall away-but I'm willing to bet a lot of those followers are fans for life of the Fierce Five-including Golden Clubfoot or Awesome Aly as every damn newspaper on my block trumpeted yesterday from every single front page! :D

    4. So you're saying she's ugly but her gymnastics is pretty?

    5. Yes, it's much better to be like Vika. I'd much rather have gorgeous leaps and wonderful toe point, one silver medal and a reputation as a choker, as opposed to two golds and a bronze like Aly. Give me a break.

    6. Sorry, two silvers. She still sucks.

    7. So...better to have ugly gymnastics and win medals, than have beautiful gymnastics and lose medals.

Why do we focus more on the podium than on the actual gymnastics?

    8. LOL. As long as the OLYMPIC JUDGES see fit to give me a score worth of gold, I really could care less what some Joe on the street thinks of me. The end.

    9. "Why do we focus more on the podium than on the actual gymnastics?"
I'm sorry, but this makes me laugh. Maybe because gymnastics is a sport and you compete to win? Ask Sasha Cohen if she'd trade her balletic lines for Olympic gold, and I think you'll have your answer.

  76. Im 100% team snark and sarcasm, I just dont understand why this blog thinks gymnasts should double as ballerinas. Get over it! Its bad enough that it's 1 of the only judged 'sports', please let people who do double doubles, triple twists, double layouts, amanars, and pattersons be ATHLETES. Compulsories whould do nothing but allow pretty lines to be the determining factor of the sport. This is not a day at the FUCKING Bolshoi. Get a FUCKING clue! And this is coming from a professional ballet dancer...smh. Thanks!

    1. I don't care about ballet, but I do care about pointed feet. The photograph of Aly on the beam they just showed on the news here is embarrassing. I didn't even know it was possible for one to flex their feet so much.

      Delete
    2. LOL. I would say Komova is the one who should be embarrassed. Girl has ZERO mental toughness and no competitive fire. She made one error on beam and dialed the rest in, including a totally ridiculous jump off. SHE is the one who should be ashamed. Not Aly.

      Delete
    3. None of these girls have to be ashamed. They all gave their best and they' re teenagers! You people can't even imagine the stress they've gone through. So shut up and just appreciate everyone for their efforts.
Neither Komova nor Gabby nor Aly should be ashamed. Kudos to all for giving us a fun Olympics.

    4. Amen. Want to watch a ballerina? Great, ballet is fantastic! So go watch some fucking ballet, then, I'm watching gymnastics here. I don't go to the Bolshoi and boo the dancers for not doing back flips.

      Delete
    5. What are you talking about? Artistry doesn't have to be balletic. Neither Ponor nor Izbasa are ballerinas, yet they're still artistic. Look at Shushunova, Zamo, Produnova, Croket, Demyanchuk, Wieber, Voinea, Dejesus, Moya, Boginskaya.

  77. It's fair for people to be unhappy that Aly won but GET OVER IT! She's not beautiful to watch but she won because she delivered. Her toes will never point the way you people want them to and she will never have rhythm. BUT SHE DELIVERED based on the code of points.
As ugly as her gymnastics is she won.

    1. Amen. Sorry, but the ones with toepoint and nice leaps can't hit to save their lives. That's the way it goes.

    1. The gymnasts failed, not Peggy. She can only do so much.

    2. Yes, but as a coach you are expected to produce results, or at least improvement. Her gymnasts keep getting worse, not better. At some point they need to change direction.

      Delete
    3. Yes, that's why Australia has won FIVE world medals in the last decade, and made 2/4 Olympic team finals. And last year, they qualified sixth to the team finals, behind the big four and Japan. They just imploded here, that's all.

      Delete
  79. LOL. Keep talking to yourself. As long as the Olympic judges are willing to give me the gold, I could care less if some Joe on the street isn't a fan of my gymnastics. The end.
