Live Blog: Event Finals Day 1

I am up and so nervous for McKayla Maroney that I am ready to start praying to God in every denomination imaginable. Light a candle for McKayla...maybe she use the talent God gave her to be an absofuckinglute boss and dominate this like we know she is truly capable of. Let's be honest, we all deserve it after listening to Shannon Miller Kwiatkowski commentate and playing semi-nice with the NBC Trio all week.

We must steal Jake Dalton from the lucky bitch Kayla Nowak and cheer him on as our own hot boyfriend this morning. The NYC gays are sleeping off a hard night and not even up for brunch yet, but I've seen enough shirtless photos of Jake in my Facebook feed to let me know they are truly with him in spirit.

NBC is currently showing us tennis to give us all a few GI problems before we leave the Olympics a veteran of their hideous coverage. We have been with NBC through the long haul and they certainly do not gain wisdom from experience.

How many commercials is NBC going to show us?! I need to know that Jake isn't competing yet.

Apparently we are missing Uchimura.  Classic NBfuckingC.  They are showing us tennis on the gymnastics feed. I cannot with this network. This is God punishing them for firing Ann Curry and subjecting us to the Seacrest left and right.

The greatest gymnast of modern time is going on floor and NBC is showing us scenes of the roof rolling back at Wimbledon.

How much is NBC paying Tim and Elfi? The money saved cannot be justified by being invested in the feed. When I interned in Beijing, the Vice President gave us a speech letting us know that, "we spent one billion dollars on these Olympics and won't care about spending fifty cents to send you home." Where does that money go?! They can't even hire an IT expert?! Really?! No wonder everyone hates Comcast and switches to Fios.

Fuck this, we have a link to BBC2

For those of you who are old enough to remember, Monica Phelps, the bitchiest commentator of all time, told me that Komova's floor routine from AA finals was her favorite routine of the AA finals. #GodBless

Kohei is apparently leading. I am waiting to close the pop up on BBC2. This is painful.

Flavius Koczi is not sporting a cute Olympics 'do. BBC2 won't let me close the pop up.

Another BBC2 link

"Shatilov reminds us that not all Jews are unwatchable on floors."-Gay Bitch

Zou Kai may be leading, but my feed is working in time for Jake in my favorite color!   Fabulous double layout arabian. Good rollout pass and messed up his third pass. Let's pray this keeps him training for another four years. He truly is replacing Legendre on the Olympic Team in oh so many ways. Stunning triple full dismount with a great dismount.

Jake seems happy enough. If not for the combination twisting pass, he would be in contention. Gorgeous technique. 15.333 for Jake. One can't help but thinking these men had to peak too early to make the Olympic Team.

Marcel Nguyen---big step forward on the layout double double mount. Hop on second pass. Gorgeous hair, naturally. Step forward on the dismount.

It is ridiculous that Kohei will only leave London with one gold medal, yet it may be the law of averages playing out after allowing him to keep his nerve enough to win four AA titles in a row.

Gonzalez- This beefy dude is quite the tumbler. He looked like he just did a triple twist from CGA circa 1999. 15.366

Zou Kai wins again.

Apparently NBC gave us the wrong link. Fuck them, I'm not switching back.

Please note that after my day at the beach, I look like Elena Berezhnaya after she overdid it in the tanning bad.

1. Zou Kai
2. Kohei Uchimura
3. Denis Ablyazin

Time for VAULT.  McKayla Maroney, Oksana Chusovitina and Sandra Izbasa!!!

Shots of Chuso in '92 when she was effed out of the vault final.  It is amazing how Chuso's form and femininity have deteriorated over the years. There are two Canadians in the team final...in the Olympics. The fact that Brittany Rogers is with us is either extremely impressive for Canada or depressing for the sport that superior vaulters didn't bother to train a second vault.

BBC shows us a feature on the vault and are reminiscing about the old days.

All of Team USA in the house to root on McKayla Maroney. I don't believe the alternates are still in London.

Men's victory ceremony is taking forever. I wish them all of my congratulations, but I pray they hurry up the pomp and circumstance to give us shots of McKayla.

Zou Kai getting gold over Kohei hurts my soul. That shit ain't right...ever.

I live for the Chinese anthem. We certainly heard it enough times in Beijing. Build that great wall! We must find a correct translation if their success continues.

Walk faster...we have a reservation with McKayla.

Profile on Beth Tweddle. It is hard not to root for her tomorrow, despite my desire to see Komova win a gold medal. I will truly be sad for Beth if she does not pull off the victory she deserves. My goodness, people are learning of my inner love for kittens and rainbows. Zeyatta must win!

Beth's parents are so lying that she doesn't care about the color of the medal. One doesn't work every day to get the abs necessary to do Beth's bar routine if they aren't hungry for gold. Mr. and Mrs. Tweddle are such lovely Brits. I'd love to have tea with them.

Here. We. Go.

Regina George's game face is on!  Not-Monica is giving me butterflies talking about favorites faltering. The Brits truly are hateful when it comes to Americans.

Team USA has never won a gold on vault---this shows you how sad Bela is considering all of the proficiency he had at teaching his gymnasts to be bosses on their vault. How were Mary Lou and Zmeskal not better at second vaults?!

Future Gym Dog Brittany Rogers looking like a beautiful NCAA gymnast---DTY...decent execution and a small hop with chest a bit low. Steady. I miss the days when Simona Amanar and Zamo were bosses in vault finals. Two Canadians people...Amelie Lacoste AND Cynthia Phaneuf have made it in. Amazing.

Rogers 2nd vault- sloppy second block, it looks like she learned it last week. Was it a podkopayeva? Was it a layout pod? That depends on who the caller is. Choose a body shape, honey.  14.483 average.

Janine Berger---sturdy German on vault. Powerful and strong rudi, but sloppy as fuck with the form. 15.133 first vault.

This leo does nothing to improve her albino characteristics. Steady double twisting tsuk...impressive athletic ability, yet utterly lacking is aesthetic achievement. She will surely medal in the World Cup competitions that Martha doesn't give a rusty hoot about. Janine seems sweet despite of her slight fugliness...15.016.

I live for Maroney living white...as though she is angelic. We know better.

Ellie Black- the Emily Kmetko  of Canada...did that rudi to her face. Did she land feet first?! It is close, but I believe she may have hit hands first. That is what happens when you coach yourself at the YMCA. The BBC commentators are discussing her myriad of injuries, which is what happens when even the Parkettes are calling you a skill chucker. 0.000 for the first vault...not sure if I agree with that. Good for her for continuing. And she bails out of the first vault...unclear if her first vault was more of a physical or mental issue...it appears physical, but I get the impression the 0.000 finished her off based on her reaction. She did appear to be lacking speed down the runway.

The commentators are already fretting over Pena's handspring double front. Let's be honest, her coaches are utterly irresponsible to allow her to risk her life like that. Girlfriend does not possess an extra chromosome like the great Produnova.

Will Pena do it? And she quits her run. This only makes us more nervous about whether she has the mental strength to pull this off. And Pena does the vault to her ass...the technique is horribly wrong off the horse. She never rises before squatting.

Will they give her score?  Apparently Nelli Kim insisted that they give Hannah Whelan a zero.

Pena did land foot-first. 14.966.

Sloppy, low DTY with a big step for her second vault. She also looks to have coached herself. This is why we need compulsories...to weed out the Canadians and self-taught girls on suicide missions.

"Are they going to name that vault after Pena? A handspring double front to the ass."-Tarasova's Mink

Chuso- a bit of a low Rudi for her, sloppy and she really is piking it enough for the questionable form to overcome how impressed we are by her age. Landed locked-legged. I feel as though we've given her medals for her age for quite some time. The feet are unforgivable in the air considering the length of time she has had to perfect it.

Comes back with a good Tsuk 1 1/2, with locked legs. Is that the last time we ever see Chuso? Like Michael Phelps, I'm not convinced.

I've heard nature calling for quite some time now, but I will not miss Maroney!

14.782 for Chuso...fair score.

Paseka- a bit of a scary Amanar. It is amazing that the BBC commentators called it brilliant and easily done, while she never completed the twist completely or cleanly. That vault was on par with Shawn Johnson's execution.

This is the worst vault final I can remember.

"Paseka has an allergy to staying on the mat."-Tarasova's Mink

15.400 for the first vault...far too high.

Layout pod, very nice...only a slight bend in the hips.

"That vault was a mess...a 15.400 for not dying."-Tarasova's Mink

15.050 for Paseka to take the lead...guaranteed a medal. Wow.

The lack of energy and momentum in this final is terrifying me.

Maroney-GREAT Amanar...a bit off line and a hop, but utterly fantastic. Bitch face is on! Not quite as stretched as usual...thought her left arm might have a been a bit off in the air, but needs to be a full point higher than anyone else. 15.866.

Falls on the second vault. Oh no.  Frankly, we've often see her low on the second vault. This will be very interesting. Unreal. Should she have watered down?

We have all jinxed her.

15.083...she has the lead.

Fuck.

Izbasa...makes the Mustafina with slacked knees. The girl is a tiger. It is all on execution. That vault was really quite tucked. Will she?   15.383 first vault.

BIG hop on the DTY.  Maroney could do it, but likely will not.

This vault final will be debated for quite some time. Huge hop for Izbasa, but she wins it. 15.191. Unreal.

The only consolation could be that Maroney may be motivated to continue, yet I highly doubt that will happen either.

We will now hear the American fans bitch about silver after they criticized the Russian for tears over second place.

I need to go take out my aggression on the ice, so Catty Comments will give you the play-by-play of Rohene Ward's quest for gold.

Worst. Vault. Final. Ever.

Kittens, it's Catty Comments! That was a funky vault final - I've seen enough NCAA vault EFs to know that it was not the worst evah. I just hope Maroney uses this and her seemingly professional status to continue to Rio.

Also, I selfishly want both Maroney and VanZam in vault finals at 2013 Worlds. CATTY IS SELFISH!

Right now BBC is showing Louis Smith highlights. POINT YOUR FEET. Love how he cried after Qualis routine. But seriously - less tats, more Armine. That is all.

Medal ceremony - McKayla looks ready to cut a bitch, but she's lucky to be on the podium after planting the Mustafina to her derriere. Both Izbasa & Bee Farm are thrilled to be on the podium. And I now realize why the Romanians look skinnier - both the USA & Russia flag have horizontal stripes. I blame our founding fathers for bad fashion.

Now it's time for Pommel Horse! Just the way the men like to ride - two handles and no head. Whee.

Tommasone (FRA) - white jersey w/ red & blue thin piping, silver accents, blue pants, white socks. Nice handstands to start, lovely circles. Amazing cross-pommel Russians, pause & foot break (legs apart) on the dismount. Bad Cyril - I'll comfort you after you shower. 15.141

Busnari (ITA) - lighter blue jersey (it's more like a UCLA Bruin blue), matching blue pants, blue socks. Amazing same-pommel circles, flairs to handstand pirouettes - multiple times! Flair to handstand to dismount. Leave it to the Italians to say, why you no reward flair? Zees! Zees ees flair! Pasta! 15.400! Bravo Azzuri!

Hidvegi (HUN) - Hiddyveggie is named Vid. Vid HiddyVeggie. Maroon (cardinal red?) jersey, white pants, white socks. Nice scissors to start, awesome spindle and he's off! NO GOULASH! More single-pommel circles, great traveling circles. Sadness - great routine except for the fall. 14.300. Note- Leyva would be thrilled to get that score.

Whitlock (GBR) - Blue flag jersey, blue pants, white socks. He's handling the routine well, nice Russian sequence, gorgeous dismount. Amazing job! He even points his feet more than Louis! Good fashion, excellent routine! 15.600 - wowsers, with a 9.0 E (execution) score.

Berki (HUN) - Gorgeous, gorgeous flairs to start. Also in cardinal jersey, white pants & socks. In love with his legs, even from this weird flying camera angle. Great circles. Travels the entire length pirouetting for the dismount. I and the gay nation are living for the overhead camera on his flairs. Le sigh. 16.066 - well deserved. Smith has his work cut out for him.

Nakonechnyi (UKR) - White, white. Thin blue decoration down the torso of the jersey - oh, it says Ukraine! Thanks Captain Obvious designer! Nice routine, but a serious letdown after Berki. 14.766

Belyavskyi (RUS) - Red jersey, red pants, white socks just to show off his slobberlicious toepoint. Leg separation on the circles, but clean routine otherwise. Fingers crossed for a medal, but it's looking like the 2 Brits & Berki. 14.733

Smith (GBR) - the red flag jersey & pants, white socks. POINT YOUR FEET MORE. Slow, steady work as always - insane difficulty vs. Berki's flawless execution. Clean routine - he may have it on difficulty & home scoring. We'll see what the judges say. 16.066 - TIE! Berki has it with a higher execution score! Sad for Louis - wish there was no tie breaker. But I'd give it to Berki as well - he did a clinic.

Your final PH standings are:

  1. Why am I watching an empty Centre Court at Wimbledon on the gymnastics coverage? NBC U Next Tuesday strikes again. Unbelievable.

  2. The coverage is a mess--the gymnastics link keeps sending over to the tennis link--it's a glitch on their system. I AM DYING OVER HERE.

  3. I hate you NBC!!! Show us gymnastics not freaking tennis!

  7. Listen, also, AJ--don't worry about Maroney. Even if we are worried, she's not. That girl looks like a cocky little badass even on her run. She has got this!

  8. I love the pornstache on the Chilean!

  9. Mitch Fenner on BBC just said what a great final this was. Thanks to NBC, I didn't see a single routine from a medalist. Nice.

    1. Sooo what would happen exactly if ethe vault was too low? Hypothetically speaking. I know in Sydney, it was discovered during the competition. But I assume it would be more complicated to fix post-competition. sigh....

      Delete
    2. It's less complicated as this is a vault final. If the vault was too low, they'd just let everybody go again. In Sydney, it happened in AA and the error wasn't discovered till halfway through the meet. What a clusterfuck.

      Delete
    3. I do not consider Sydney a valid competition. They effed up EVERYTHING. They think they made it up by allowing them to vault again but that wasn't enough--they should've all just started over. When the reigning world champion and heavy favorite is so rattled by her fall that she falls on her signature event, the results are completely tainted. I respect Raducan's ability to remain calm under those conditions and it sucks that she was stripped of the gold, but I don't feel any worse for her than for everyone else who got shafted by the vault debacle. Who knows if she would''ve have won if that hadn't happened?

      Delete
  13. Izbasa deserved the gold. I'd hate to see a gold medalist with a fall. The only way someone was going to win this was if Maroney messed up. Maroney opened the door. Too bad but it just goes to show that there are no guarantees.

  14. Wow. Beijing 2.0. Will VT event finals ever not be a hot mess again?

  15. I just can't fucking believe this. The Queen fell.

  16. I wanted McKayla to win so so much! She's the best vaulter in the world for sure, but she wasn't on her game today. The judges were right to award the gold to Sandra. She wasn't perfect, but she stayed on her feet. Yay for Romania! My heart hurts for McKayla :( But she still has a gold, and a silver is great too!! I'm happy for Maria Paseka, too. No golds for the Russian ladies (yet!), but they're getting on the podium every time!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Am I the only one who thought Paseka was overscored on her Amanar? The bitch was only bought to olympics to do that one vault and she can barely land it on her feet. So fucking worthless....give the bronze to the german girl please....she deserved it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah you're the only one who thinks that. You also do not know your math. She got the bronze get over it!

      Delete
  18. Ok - Are you people really surprised? The media has completely jinxed McKayla by saying "All she has to do is show up and she has the gold." Of course that means something weird will happen like a freak fall. It always happens. Seldom does the favorite win. It's a shame that McKayla couldn't do what she is really capable of. Like the team vault x 2. Everyone knows she can do that. Oh well. That is life. At least she has a silver. Small consolation. I think everyone should take this as a lesson to not put so much pressure on an athlete as the "given winner."

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Many athletes have delivered more than McKayla was required to do, under far more pressure.

      Delete
    2. Everyone knows she's the best vaulter on the planet...even Izbasa. I agree with your comments about the media jinxing her though....I had a feeling deep down that this would happen. But results should've been:

      Gold- Izbasa
      Silver- Maroney
      Bronze- Berger

The fact that Paseka didn't even fully complete her 2 1/2 twists, had terrible form that we expect from Russian vaults, and completely stepped off the mat and she still manages to get an olympic medal? These judges should be bitch slapped....just awful.

      Delete
    3. It's the same judges who overscored Gabby on bars and beam. Maroney should not even be on the podium, she fell!
Paseka redeemed herself after fucking up TF

      Delete
    4. And the same judges that overscored Komova's vault in the AA? Mustafina should not even be on the podium, she fell!

      Delete
    5. McKayla's downfall was Twitter.

      Delete
  19. Wow, pommel was the BEST final. Berki and Smith were both so great. Berki's execution is just flawless, so I think the judges got it right but it really could have gone either way. And thanks AJ for the BBC link. It was such a treat to see these routines (except for floor) live and not have idiotic announcing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. As the saying goes never count the Romanians out. Octavian is smoking from ear to ear.

Love Mckayla but congrats go to Sandra.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The chances of Maroney making Rio is like Pena ever landing that vault. There is going to be so much depth in the next quad that there is no room for a one eventer like her.
She must be devastated. In the end it was (a) Mustafina who did her in.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anon8:34 i agree, i hope to see mckayla for rio but like i said on another blog she beeds to train as an all arounder or at least be string on three events.

For kyla this is perfect for her. She mostly stayed out if the spotlight this olympics and i dont think shes peaked yet. If she stays for rio she can finally upgrade her floor and retrain her amanar although i hear the amanar will go down to a 6.3 in 2013 code of point.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It'll be impossible for Maroney. Especially since the Amanar will be worth less. Girls like Kyla, the Russians Vila, musty and Grishina have a good chance of being in Rio. But the again thrres a new crop of rising Russians who Have the artistry, difficulty but are more consistent.

      Delete
    2. Ive been hearing talk lately about mustys sister nailya. I watched her beam routine at The russian cup not bad just neds a little polish but dont be surprised if shes a front runner for rio.

      Delete
  23. So sad for McKayla. She's a good sport, though - she hugged and presumably congratulated Sandra right away.

Also, the BBC has yet to figure out that McKayla is one word, and they're still calling her McKyla. I love you, BBC, for showing me all the events all the time, but your gymnastics commentators are a bit clueless. (In an adorable way, not an infuriating way like a certain USA network.)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Aside from their mispronunciation of names, Mitch Fenner and Christine What's-Her-Name are actually very good commentators. There is another dork with them that's kind of clueless (aka, the British version of Al Trautwig). But Mitch and Christine know their stuff. For example, I've been wondering for along time why the pommel workers were not doing those magnificent flairs that former greats like Marius Urzeka and Paul Hamm used to do. The BBC explained that nicely (of course it's because of the jacked up COP). First time I got an explanation.

  24. NBC is employing transparent money-grubbing tactics - of course there are "glitches" in the gymnastics feed. They want to manipulate and corral everyone into watching the primetime coverage - for ratings and advertisement dollars. Trust and believe that they intentionally corrupted the live gymnastics feed - just like they intentionally showed a commercial featuring a gymnastics-performing monkey immediately after Bob Costas's celebration of Gabby Douglas's win.

There are no coincidences. NBC is Satan.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. LOL! I'm totally on board with this. It disgusts me that we have to put up with them until at least 2020, but hopefully not beyond that. From what I understand, NBC is actually losing money from the Olympics. GOOD! Give it back to ABC or anyone else. Hopefully whoever has it next will realize that in this day and age, not showing events live is stupid and anger-inducing.

      Delete
  25. Lets give it to BBC I love their commentators for gymnastics. They might not get be able to pronounce tue gymnast name have the time but at least they aren't biased like NBC.

  26. What pissed me off was that people bitched at Cheng Fei's vault bronze, but how is this any different. Yet I don't see people saying Paseka deserves silver. It's actually worse IMO because Cheng did more difficult vaults, yet ended up with a lower medal... Double standards if you're from the United States IMO.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's different because Paseka wasn't penalized enough for her Scamanar. In 2008, Cheng Fei was placed ahead of people with two clean vaults. IMO, the German should have gotten silver and Maroney bronze, but the COP awards difficulty so much that Moroney and Paseka were placed ahead of her. I'd like to see the FIG balance difficulty and execution, but it's probably easier said than done.

      Delete
    2. Cheng didn't even do her second vault correctly. Her half turn on the horse was more like a 1/4 turn.

      Delete
    3. the difference IMO is that this year the vault field was really weak. Asac in 2008 did a good job with her vaults, Paseka is sloppy and had bad landings. Of course the fact that Maroney is american helps a little but it's not the most important thing here. at least in my opinion

      Delete
  27. Maroney refusing to hug Paseka when Paseka came up to congratulate her was disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You mean like when the Russians refused to congratulate the American team after they won the team final? Tit for tat.

      Delete
    2. I don't get that? It IS possible Paseka just verbally congratulated ehr and was not looking for a hug- her statement said 'if I had not side stepped I would have won silver' so maybe SHE didn't want to hug Maroney. Maroney hugged Sandra so why wouldn't she hug Paseka who she actually did beat. It doesn't make sense. Either a) Paseka was only verbally congratulating her or b) Maroney was in way too much shock to process anything, I think.

      Delete
    3. Paseka bent to take Maroney in her arms (like Izbasa) but Maroney turned away when she did it. BUT I do think it was because she was shocked and couldn't believe what just happened. I'm not sure she saw that Paseka wanted to hug her.

      Delete
    4. Fair enough, I did not see Paseka's arms. I think it's a non-issue anyway. These girls are young and are devastated- Komova, the Russian team, Maroney and they react differently- sobbing uncontrollably or stoic and in shock. It looks like people expect them to smile like loons when they've just had their dreams crushed. Seriously fucking annoying. And you can bet NBC will continue with the Russian diva slant, and forget about Maroney and ANY gymnast that has ever shown dissapointment.

      Delete
    5. I doubt Maroney didn't see Paseka, she was right there in front of her. I thought it was funny to see Maroney act like that after all the complaints about Russian being divas and their bad sportsmanship. Just shows that nobody is perfect, hope people remember this moment before complaining about other athletes next time.

      Delete
    6. Have to admit I was disappointed with Maroney's behavior - I'm glad that she didn't cry and carry on like Komova, but she should have been more gracious in defeat - She looked like a very poor sport with a majorly bad attitude

      Delete
    7. "It looks like people expect them to smile like loons when they've just had their dreams crushed."

YES. This drives me crazy, it's totally sexist. Does anyone expect Michael Phelps constantly to be grinning no matter what? Of course not. But God forbid a female athlete not be bouncy and smiling and happy instead of having a gameface [I LOATHE the word bitchface. So disgusting and gendered.] during the meet or processing disappointment RIGHT after you just threw away your gold! Can't have a female being unavailable and undecorative now, can we!

I will say, I think when NBC uses the word diva it's often half-admiringly. They certainly liked Khorkina most of the time, she gave them great material!

    2. Per some of the first photos to pop up on Google Images of the Grinch - yep.

I also think that in a lot of photos, McKayla looks like a young Laura Bush. McKayla looks more like Laura Bush's daughter than either of Mrs. Bush's real twin daughters.

    3. I've ALWAYS thought she looked like one of the Who's from Whoville...specifically, Cindy Lou Who? I think its her nose, but yeah...the resemblance is uncanny...agreed!

What a bitch!! Seriously people need to get over how these girls act on the medal stand 5 minutes after their dreams don't come true. This isn't failing a 9th grade geometry test, they know this is probably they're one and only shot and they're pissed they messed up or did great and still got second. Get over it people

And I saw Pena crying and hiding herself under her jacket and nobody is calling her a diva-bitch-badsport

    2. Agree about the podium pictures (LMAO), but did her coach really greet her with, "There goes your gold medal" as she stepped off the podium after her second vault? And how did she act toward him anyway? I missed this on NBC.

  30. Maroney comes off as a big snob and a poor sport. She needs to get over herself. And if anyone's the diva in gymnastics, it's her. Her attitude just cost her hundreds of dollars in endorsements.

    1. OMG NOT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS!!!1 And I'm over this 'these girls are bitches' comments. They're teenagers, they're dreams were crushed they're going to cry/pout/be mad/sad and they'll get over it. Did you read what she said afterwards? She's not disappointed with the medal she's disappointed with herself and that she didn't do her best.

Sounds like Mckayla is taking this like a grown up, maybe other people should also

    2. If she took it like a grown up, she would have lost the ugly "grinch" look on her face when she went up on the podium. Her body language and face said it all! lol.

    3. OH NO HUNDREDS AND TENS AND ONES OF DOLLARS!! AUTOMATONS RULE!! Put on a fake smile and you too can be a publicity star!!

    4. Gymnasts turn professional to get the endorsement money and image matters. Maroney is a one trick pony. Kinda hard to get the big bucks when you can't even get the gold on your event and you look like the Grinch! Don't feel sorry for her at all. And she's not likely to make the next Olympics either!

    5. Shawn was supposed to be the AA winner and look how much she was able to pimp herself out by winning 'only' beam

Moceanu sure got a lot out of her team gold

    6. Nah. She has gameface and good for her. Anyone who thinks she "comes off" as a snob is insecure and reading way too much into her body language.

  31. Wow people are dramatic. She messed up, she cost herself a gold medal and she was mad. She also took responsibility for her mistake and clapped for and hugged the gold medal winner on the medal stand.

Komova cried and shoved the silver medal in her pocket. Who cares?

Can we talk about this dumbass tiebreak rule that has affected 3 different gymnast's from 3 different countries? There have been 5 finals and 3 of the medal winners have been decided by a tiebreak, stupid.

    1. Agreed, and it's not like the entire planet doesn't already know Maroney is hands down the best there is..now about that ridiculous rule....

  32. It's lose dear, not loose. I swear to God, the loose/lose thing has become an epidemic in English-speaking countries.

  33. Got a bad feeling about this. Keep thinking this is the beginning of the downfall of the Fab 5 (other than Gabby). I anticipate a fall/OOB error by Aly and/or Jordyn next. And I hope I'm wrong.

    1. I don't know. I think Aly, and especially Jordyn, feel like they have something to prove after their individual disappointments. I think Shawn Johnson in 2008 rocked beam final because she felt she had something to prove. Of the two, I think Aly may be the more susceptible to a letdown. She seems to be having trouble with that first pass, and in floor finals she's going to need to do the full difficulty.

    2. The funny thing is Aly is still scoring above a 15.0 even without the the layout. It is still possible. Jordyn at least has a memorable redemption story that people won't forget. I want Aly to medal, and win, more than any other Fab 5 member.

  34. Despite Maroney looking like a bitch diva at least she is taking responsibility for her silver medal. She admits that it was her performance that cost her the gold medal.

Komova won't admit her performance lost her the gold in the AA, she is blaming the judges.

Maroney isn't blaming anyone but herself. Komova is blaming everyone but herself.

  35. Expected result. The supposed "face" of this team never comes up with the goods when she is out of the shadow of her teammates. We didnt need her on vault, but when she needed herself, she had no answer. She's not an option for Rio.

    1. We had no idea we wouldn't need Mckayla on vault in TF. There were rumors rampant that Russia and Romania all had 3 super amazing amanars to challenge the USA. If we would have taken someone else they would have vaulted a 15.7-15.8 like the other girls. Then after bars we would have been tied with Russia

Going into beam tied is a better outlook for Russia then going in .4 down. After Maroney's vault almost everyone could see it was over.

Nobody knows who is going to be in Rio. Anything can happen in 4 years.

  37. I have no problem with the crying, but then after a quick cry you need to pull it together. At least in time for medals and press confs. You don't have to be fake happy, but you can't pout and sulk either. You don't have to totally hide disappointment, but you do have to congratulate your opponents. IMHO.

I'm disappointed to some extent with both Komova's and Maroney's sportsmanship. As sad as I was for Maroney, I actually chuckled a little at the first "grinchface" photo I saw, just the face and I assumed it was immediately after vaulting...totally changed my tune when I saw larger shot clearly showing it was on podium. Both girls did get it together enough to give appropriate interviews, so I give credit for that.

  38. Did anyone see McKayla's twitter? She wrote: "For anyone who thought I didn't want to hug Maria and Sandra that's not the case(: They are my friends, and I'm proud of them both! I wasn't thinking straight and I totally forgot what to do, but don't worry.. I gave them both hugs after!! <3 Sportsmanship is so important to me and I hope you know i would never do that intentionally!! Please forgive me!!"

Sounds legit. Or maybe she's just been lurking around here, ha.
