This and That (RIP Donna Summer)

Like many of you, I'm deeply saddened by the death of Donna Summer from cancer at age 63.  My parents exposed me to their music at a young age by never allowing anyone to change the radio or allowing us to learn how to use the CD Player.

Many of us also remember Donna as Aunt Una on Family Matters.  (Link is her memorable first appearance.)

Jordyn Wieber on floor at camp, with her double layout as a second pass.  As much as she is not my ideal gymnast or Olympic AA Champion by any stretch of the imagination, Jordyn is looking fit and prepared for this summer and is continually upgrading, which is very necessary in the Olympic year.

Kurt Browning is branching out.  (with a video interview)

  2. So what will Jo's passes on floor be? I thought for sure the DLO would replace the 2 and a half but she's still training that in the video.

    So double double, DLO, 2 1/2, 1 1/2 to triple? Doesn't she need the last one to fulfill a requirement?

  3. Nastia's cheeks don't look much different. She wouldn't lose that much weight being bulimic...her mother is a rhythmic gymnast. They know how to lose weight better than bulimia.

  4. I think her Floor D Score will be like this: ACROS --> Silivas (G), DLO (F), 3/2 (C) into 3/1 twist (E) + Stag Jump (A) --- 0.3 CV, 5/2 twist into split jump (A) --- 0.1 CV; DANCE --> Split Leap 1/2 (D), Johnson (C), Triple Turn (C). ACROS = 2.5 + DANCE = 1.0 + CV = 0.4 + Composition Requirements = 2.5. FLOOR EXERCISE START VALUE = 6.4! Great

  5. Her front aerial prior to her last pass fulfills the front salto, her DLO/Silivas fulfills the double salto, her 3/2 into the 3/1 fulfills the 2 saltos in 1 pass

  6. Thanks John! She's still doing the 2 1/2 as a third pass in the video, a DLO or the triple seems a little ambitious for a last pass which is why I figured she would stick with the double pike

  7. @Anonymous: She can't drop the 3/2 into 3/1 because she needs to fulfill a requirement that has 2 saltos in 1 pass... She'll lose 0.2 in difficulty and 0.2 in connection value if she doesn't do the combo... I also thought initially that she'll drop the 5/2 and end with the double pike... but her 5/2 into a split jump has a higher value than a double pike... I agree its quite ambitious... but if it doesnt work out for her, she can always revert back to her current FX routine which has a 6.2 D score
