Anna Li injured, named Team USA alternate

Howdy kittens,

Catty Comments with sad news. As suspected, Anna Li strained a lower abdominal muscle in training after arriving in Tokyo. Via IG2, she has been named the alternate for Team USA.

Anna did train on bars during podium training but was off on her Shaposhnikova. Her interview with Gymnastike after podium training is below.

Her absence will really weaken Team USA on bars and put them farther behind both China and Russia with much lower D scores. However, if there is a bars disaster in qualifications, for this FIG event (and not during the Olympics), Anna as the official alternate is still eligible to compete on bars in TFs.

Not really. Replacement is allow only if the gymnast is injure AND the injury is certified by the FIG medical. So if USA has a bars disaster in qualifications, USA still can not replace with Anna. Now if someone is injure in qualifications, then you can replace with Anna.

  2. They should fly Shawn out. This is insane. Our alternate is a two event gymnast who is hurt herself!

Put Shawn on the team and use her for the 3rd bar routine (she is better than Vega, Maroney or Raisman). Keep Vega as the alternate.

  3. I wonder if they wish Bridgey or Bridget was the official alternate now.

  4. Shawn should be here.

Anna would have messed up in team finals. She should be at home now not in Japan. The judges would have killed that routine like the US judges did on night one.
