Valeri Loves Gymnastike

This is better than the time he did that floor routine without his shirt on.

(I also enjoy how Martha is trying to get him to hurry up and not waste his time talking to these fools.)

  4. I clicked on a link to this interview and it brought me to your blog. I have to say that you need to take a look at your content before you call someone a fool. Gymnastike, Gymnastics Examiner, etc are media sources that USA Gymnastics deems creditable sources for covering gymnastics related content. I am pretty certain Aunt Joyce's Ice Cream stand wasn't at the Visa Media row.
You may have your followers which is great but don't call others fools when they are trying to bring a relevant gymnastics content to the world.

  5. Dear Gymnastics Media:

Anne's interviewing skills are and always have been abysmal. And the fact that you found a link on HER site to THIS blog says a lot.

Calling her a fool is both appropriate and justified. Her interviews have never amounted to even a thimbleful of insight, and those of us that are passionate about gymnastics will and should call her out on that. She asks asinine questions and, FINALLY, got a response she deserved from one of the best coaches in WAG.

Also, if you had ever read ANY of Aunt Joyce's interviews with famous athletes and coaches, you would realize that his interviewing skills FAR surpass those that have greater reader/viewership.

    Read the interviews on here.

  6. @ Mister- First of all I didn't find the link for this blog or the interview on Gymnastike. It was sent to me from a friend that is a respected coach in the elite world and a true Gymnastike fan. Second of all this interview was not conducted by Anne. It was done by a new contributor to Gymnastike and has obviously been taken down.

Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and post it the way they feel fit however I can tell you that in the gymnastics community (coaches, athletes and parents) this blog is not one that gets much praise even from the athletes he has interviewed. Anne and Gymnastike is a place where the gymnastics community goes for the updates and the most current information on gymnastics.

And this statement is based on facts.

    Thank you for your response.

  7. So, Gymnastics Media, am I to assume that you speak for ALL of the gymnastics community? That's how you're coming across. I think you should be a bit more careful about coming to a blog and trying to wield some kind of authority. That's not the way this works.

Plenty of coaches and gymnasts read this blog and other gymnastics messageboards to scavenge information the "media" is so poor at disseminating, such as who is REALLY injured, who is REALLY leaving what gym, and what upgrades are gymnasts REALLY going to execute, etc. Is it always conjecture? Yes. But so is the media. Gymnastike is the kind of site where the informative content lacks any kind of value, just like reading a gymnast's own blog to figure out how training is actually going. The only thing Gymnastike is good for is showing clips of training and meets that the "media" won't televise. Many people are justifiably thankful for Anne's site, but I have never seen a media site with such a vacuous collection of inane interviews targeted at an audience that is 12 and under.

Acting like Gymnastike is some premier source for the most accurate information about USAG is folly. I will say no more.

  8. As far as Blythe goes, she is excellent. I think she gets carried away with her own excitement for the sport, but she 1) does good quickhits and 2) notices things going on around the competition floor that coaches, fans, athletes want to know. She is also fast at uploading content and actually knows the names of skills, a bit about their difficulty, and has an understanding of the history of the sport. Frankly, Blythe should be conducting the interviews for Gymnastike. Anne is a camera person... and that's about it.

  11. I understand the criticism regarding some of the credential gymnastics press...BUT I am also happy to have them around. I can still remember the 80s/90s where my only resources were a once a month (or quarterly) magazine, TV Guide, and random bits and pieces here and there. I love having all sorts of info whether poor interviews, snarky blogs, etc., etc., etc.

  12. Who the fuck cares about some About.com reader poll? Anne, it really is pitiful that you are taking the time to troll AJ's blog just because he called your interviews shite. Here's a thought: why not just IGNORE he has to say? I have a feeling you can't because you know that there's a grain of truth in his criticisms.

  13. Anne's interviewing skills are abysmal, and it's likely that her willingness to always throw the softest of the softball questions and accept the most pat answers from athletes is why USAG has tolerated her so much and allowed her so much free reign at their events. Anne needs to hire someone else who knows the sport and has some sort of working knowledge of journalism to do the interviews.
