One Year Out

Nastia Liukin spoke to NBC affiliates around the country this morning for the one year til London kick-off.

Members of Team USA pretended to like one another for an autograph session.

Alicia, Horton and Jordyn were on Today this morning.  Alicia looks ferocious, despite appearing like she hasn't digested a meal since Worlds.  Kudos to NBC for showing every clip of her falling in Beijing.  Horton appeared slightly awkward as Natalie Morales fed him answers.  She even tried to show a little personality.  You know she is trying to knock off Ann Curry for the anchor position.  Jordyn Wieber appeared like a duller version of Carly Patterson.  In addition to plucking her eyebrows to deal with the stress, Jordyn likes pedicures.  Props to NBC for trying to make her sound like she has a semblance of personality---note her stank left big toe.  Wonderful camera work.

Michael Phelps still hasn't used any of his millions for any sort of dental work.  We can only hope the gorgeous Ryan Lochte kicks his ass next summer.

  1. Bleh, I hate when people with no gymnastics knowledge ask so-and-so gymnast if they are old. NO BTCH, she just went to Worlds (and did quite well I might add), I think that answers your question about her age.

  2. Could the lady interviewing Jordyn be anymore awkward. Pedicure question was painful, and in usual Today Show fashion, they were in too much of a hurry to let her fully answer. (It was a dumb question anyway.) More people would watch Nationals if it was actually advertised as NATIONALS instead of Visa Championships. How about VISA National Championships? Imagine that.

  3. "You just won the 2011 American Championships." Um, no. No she did not. Also, way to go NBC for showing a picture of Jordyn's fug flexed feet on bars, along with her ridiculous face while she's at it.

While I'm at it, who the FUCK thought it would be a good idea to have Horton do pommel horse at this thing? It wouldn't exactly have been good for his reputation or team morale or wtfever if he splatted on the big Today Show thing...LOL when they asked him what the trick to pommels was. As if he, or just about any other US gymnast for that matter, has a CLUE. (Speaking of which, SASHA ARTEMEV WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU SO I CAN LUST OVER YOUR TOE POINT AND CRY OVER YOUR EPIC FAILS)

  5. Alicia needs to give these ladies lessons on talking to the press. Jordyn Wieber, could you BE more awkward?

  6. Just saw a new article in which Nastia is apparently still trying to make believe she could still go for 2012, and that she'll decide by the end of this year. I guess she's delaying the inevitable in order to keep the $$$ flowing in, but really, does she think we're all stupid, or is she just delusional enough to believe that after 3-plus years off, she can back to senior elite, Olympic-level gymnastics in six-seven months??? For God's sake, Nastia, just announce your retirement. You're starting to look really foolish.

  7. nastia is done shove a fork in her!

  8. nastia was Barely an olympic level gymnast in 2008

  9. I love bashing Nastia and all the wimps who like her. That said, we can always use the UB competition for scores. That and I don't understand why she would walk away from the sport unless really injured. I always loved the time in the gym and just training. She should stop playing fashion idiot (she's not anything special there) and just get some chalk on her hands and get in shape and workout.

    Props to Memmel and Sac.

Still reserved on Shawn. She needs to get more in shape before she gets my attagirl.

  10. Nastia won five Olympic medals including AA gold, and could easily have won bars and beam on another day. She certainly was an Olympic level gymnast; she won the most medals of anyone in her sport at that games.

It's a pity she didn't knuckle down and waltz onto the team, but it's too late now and she should stop insulting her fans' intelligence.

  11. it is sad about nastia, it is almost as if she has nothing going on in her life and can not move on. She has not trained in three years. It is not going to suddenly happen. I mean Shawn is having a hard time and at least she has been training.

  12. Well that's probably the case: she doesn't have a college degree and never went to a proper high school. Her world has been very limited and she has never experienced being 'normal' or being anything other than Nastia the gymnast.

  13. Marta told Nastia all she needs is an UB routine and they can add her in with Alicia.

She better lose weight soon because she is to fat to swing the bars.

  14. Nastia looks like she is slimming down. She will just need an epic sports bra.

  15. The thing is quite a few good bar workers have emerged this year (B. Caq, M. Caq, Li, Memmel) who render the idea of Nastia being useful for simply her bars routine completely null and void.

  16. Nastia doesn't owe anyone an official retirement announcement-but I wish she'd do it anyway. She looks good in the first photograph. If only...But there's always memories of Beijing the crowning glory of her career! :)

  17. And to the anonymous moron that said Nastia's 'too fat' for bars what a dumb thing to say. It's obsurd. Nastia may not be in TOP CONDITION to swing a world class bars routine but this young woman is NOT fat by any stretch of the imagination. Please go check your eyes out STAT! As to the Nastia bashers-she won the Olympic AA the crown jewel of gymnastics for a total of 5 Olympic medals. Deal.

  18. Tudor - no, she doesn't. But don't you agree that it's a tad PATHETIC to even pretend that she has time to get ready by the time Olympic trials roll around? The point is not that she owes anyone anything. The point is that I am incredulous that she just dragging out the inevitable.

  19. I cant believe how ugly michael phelps still is why dont he take his wingspan and fly away or to some kind of surgeon

  20. She is fat. Take off your Nastia colored glasses.

Marta told Nastia in 09 she was on that world team and it was Nastia's father that told Nastia she wasn't good enough or training enough to be on that team. He gave her the ultimatum.

Marta was willing to put her on anyway and she told Nastia that. This is why she trained because she knew she was on the team regardless of how she competed.

  21. I'm so glad someone else brought up the issue of the "Visa Championships" name thing. No wonder Natalie Morales confused it with the American Cup--that actually sounds more like Nationals! I'm sorry, but USA Gymnastics was SO stupid to let the name become Visa Championships--the words "USA" and "Nationals" are nowhere in the title, and you know what else isn't? The word "Gymnastics." !!!

I've been to two out of the last four Nationals, and it is shocking to see all this signage that truly only says "Visa Championships." I happened to ask a passerby what he thought the event was, and he literally said, "Is it a shop-a-thon?"

Way to market the sport, USAG.

  22. EVERYTHING in America is owned by a corporation. Duh.

  23. Thank you for that insightful and respectful comment. I don't care that it's branded with a corporate name; I'm saying they should keep what it is, i.e., USA Gymnastics, in the title of the event also.

  24. Nastia is too injured to compete again...she only made it to the 2008 olympics between injuries because of the devotion of her coach (her father)..the teasing that she is coming back or not is just a way to keep WOGA in the spotlight (again her father's gym) until WOGA produces the next olympian.. as the family are very shrewd business people...none of that is a bad thing..Gymnastics is a hard sport with few monetary rewards for women gymnasts.

Listen, child...Also, take a spelling class. Please. Jeez!!!!
And corporations, which America IS run by, don't give a crap about titles.

  26. Huh... don't understand these last posts. What is spelled wrong?

  27. I'm glad Michael Phelps hasn't had his teeth fixed. I'm tired of all famous people trying to look perfect. He can swim well. That's what matters.
