This and That

Johnny Weir's premiere of Dirty Love.  One of the greatest sing-a-longs to a backing track of all time, obv!

Rebecca Bross and her crutches were on hand in San Jose for the announcement of June 2012's Olympic Trials in Rudy Galindo's home town.

Aliya Mustafina won gold on vault and tied for gold on floor at the Toyota Cup.  She won a silver on beam behind Lauren Mitchell.  Sui Lu tied with Mustafina on floor.  Jiang Yuyuan captured gold on Uneven Bars and was third on floor.

  1. Who is this Victoria Moors girl? She's excellent!

  2. Peng Peng is so great on beam. I wish she had better leaps/dismount because she'd be way up there.

  3. Victoria Moors is Saadi's latest protege.

  4. This just simply made my day (or week). Thank you Johnny

  5. I only wish I had half of Johnny's confidence.

  6. I love moors but she will be retired before she does anything.

  7. Wow- this little video really drives home how the JW brand has devolved into a hyperdiversified cariacature. He's barely present in this performance-just because he can do so doesn't mean he should.
Just wish he could focus the passion back into those lyrical jumps with that incredible flow out of the jump (as in the days of P. Hill).

  8. I still love Johnny the skater, but I must be a lousy fan. I think this song is horrible--lyrics, tune, everything; I don't get it at all. I wish people would stop praising it, so it will go away and he won't be encouraged to do more.

Then again, perhaps this song is in a "genre" I just don't get, and succeeds on a level I don't understand. I recall murmurs early on from Team Weir that the song had a Depeche Mode feel. No way--that's an insult, albeit unintended, to the band. If I were Dave Gahan, I might try killing myself again if I thought people really thought my work was on par with this novelty tune.

    Move on with your life.

Yep you're a lousy fan (said it yourself)

  11. Anon 9:54- many of us feel the same way as Anon9:15- and everyone has a right to their opinion.
We miss the beautiful skating he produced back then and IS NOT producing now (and RECOGNIZE that on a technical level).
No need to be snarky about it- it's a valid observation.

Telling people to 'move on with their lives' devolves the discussion to a personal level (which also means that you don't have an intelligent counter opinion in response).

People (other than Johnny)were saying it reminded them of Depeche Mode. They did not say it it is like DM.
I don´t get the comparison to DM, still I`m already singing it and I am shaking my booty. That´s all he wanted. Having fun. I think people should loosen up a bit and simply enjoy something instead of always expecting the highest quality. Johnny knows why he does it. He wants to have fun. Why aren´t we able to simply have that anymore?

  13. To Anon 10:51 AM

Johnny's retired (unofficially) from competitive FS and he's moved on with his life doing things he likes. People unhappy with what he's doing right now should do the same and move on too.

  14. Johnny welcomes criticism of his skating by saying that he is going to come back every five seconds. Remember when he criticized Kwan and Cohen for doing the same just a year ago? Times have changed!

  15. It's not horrible. Let him get it out of his system. I hope it makes him some money.

  16. I love the way Johnny Weir posts devolve.

Expect 50 comments by the end of the week.

  17. Weir has never had a singing lesson a day in his life. It's insulting to all the truly talented people in the music industry who work their butts off that he's even allowed to produce a song. So many great singers who NEVER get their voices heard while Weir is able to make this farce. Sad. At least Weir says he will "keep his day job", so at least he's aware that he doesn't know how to sing.

  18. "I think people should loosen up a bit and simply enjoy something instead of always expecting the highest quality."

Taste, of course, is subjective, but I feel that enjoyment and high quality go together. I was attracted to Johnny's skating because I felt it was passionate, beautiful, and, in your words, Anon 11:03, of the "highest quality." I don't see anything close to that quality in Johnny's forays into the entertainment business. I've paid to see him skate and would happily do so again. But in recording a single Johnny and his producer are expecting/hoping to make money from Johnny's fans--it's not all about fun! If they just wanted to have fun, they could have gone out and gotten a drink or taken in a movie.

Hey, if you like the song and Johnny makes money on it, I guess that's good for him and you, a win-win.

    Maybe 51 comments?

  19. Is Saadi a bad coach because Moors NEEDS to be on the Canadian World team. How old is she?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Moors better be careful with that floor routine.
If she is underrotated on the triple full and it gets downgraded to a 2 1/2 then her final tumbling run of 2 1/2 will not count, and she will use EGR for no dismount.

    Otherwise great tumbling and choreography

  21. Now we're suppose to feel sorry for all those unsigned singers because Johnny got a recording contract to do ONE song? Evan just designed a dress with Vera Wang even though he has never ever expressed an interest in design. Should we cry tears for every unemployed seamstress? It's all part of taking advantage of having your name in the headlines.

  22. Sorry, I must have missed it: can someone tell me what happened to Rebecca Bross? thanks!

  23. Emanuel Sandhu's terrible, hilarious, gay song >>>>>>>>>> Johnny's.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not a chance! Eman's song kicks Johnny's out of orbit. At least when Eman tried to become an off-ice celeb, he had the talent to make it without d-list star appearances and a ridiculous reality TV show. Top five on SYTYCDC, baby!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Eman's song couldn't hold a candle to Johnny's. He may be a better singer but Johnny's a better performer, and his song is catchier to the 100th degree. He's got way more presence and star quality. Don't be dissin bgjw. That "ridiculous" reality show just got picked up for another season on an even bigger network. Yeah baby!!!

  26. I believe the poster was trying to throw mud at SWTS, which is worthy of having mud thrown out, but not entirely Johnny's show and certainly not entirely his fault.

  27. Becca Bross had pain/swelling after US Nationals in August and sometime between that and after worlds that turned into a fracture so she had surgery and a screw inserted to help healing a couple weeks after worlds.

ROTFLMAO. Bet you by next Christmas he's shitting in a bucket, throwing it on the ice, showering the dump in feathers and glitter, and his fans are calling it 'Avant-garde art for the 21st Century'.

  30. I'd say it's not half bad for a first try at a single!

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL. Okay, I'm SORRY! It's not a total bucket of shit! Lol, not quite.

Why isn't the single available for sale on audio CD, though? Maybe it'd sound better through big stereo speakers. And LOGO should put BGJW on DVD, too. For some reason everybody's allergic to the idea of DISCS where Johnny is concerned.

  32. Forgive me, beloved. It was all frustrated lust. I was consumed by a selfish rage at not being able to have you for my own. I've made you disgusted with me, now I'll work hard to make you proud.

In my view, you were so high above that I never ever believed I could hurt you. If I did, I'm sorry and always will be.

  33. Wow, everyone gets so uptight here. It's a novelty song. For decades, people not known for singing have put out novelty songs. It's not a big deal. It's just fun. Don't buy it if you don't like it. I think it took a lot of balls to get out there and sing along to the track, and Johnny later tweeted about how nervous he was. BTW, he's still mostly skating. It was a skating show, after all, and he did two skating programs after this. He's got opportunities and he's having fun. Good for him. I think a lot of people here get a bit too upset about how another human being is living his life.
