This and That

I apologize for the lack of updates. I have been busy, but have actually been working on a new series of posts for the blog that I hope everyone will enjoy. The Make It Or Break It review is also on the way, but it is difficult to focus on that shame-based series when the Real Housewives of NJ are calling one another garbage and beating up on Andy Cohen.

Tom Forster was filmed at the GAT Convention by gymnastike. He gave a lecture on Uneven Bars training and demonstrated drills for training L grip, which is something many people starting to get heavily involved into gymnastics ask about. Training L grip is extremely important, as many of the American girls do not use L grip, mixed grip, etc need to if they are to really rack up bonus points on bars and compete with the Russians and Chinese.

Tom is one of the best American bar coaches on all time. He stopped coaching day-to-day, but he could certainly be an asset for someone hoping to improve on Uneven Bars. His gymnasts were strong on bars as a gym (like CGA), but they performed inverts, front giants, etc that were rarely seen during the mid '90s.

Eliot Halverson is taking the year off from skating due to his recurring back injury. He had taken time off last summer due to his back. Eliot had worked hard after missing Nationals and I definitely hope to see his artistic skating again next year.

The JGP Romania started today.

In the ladies, Yuki Nishino leads, Rosa Sheveleva is second, Kristiene Gong is third and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva is in fourth after a fall. Elizaveta is less than three points out of the lead.

Joshua Farris and Keegan Messing continue the strong showing by the American men on the JGP. The two are 8-10 points ahead of the rest of the field.

Interviews with Jeremy Abbott and Grant Hochstein from Champs Camp have been posted on Ice Network. Grant may be our favorite new 'artistic male skater' of recent years.

Marian Dragalescu told IG that he takes full responsibility for failing to comply with out-of-competition drug tests. He plans to compete at Worlds and is working on a 6.8 D-score floor routine.

Nikolai Andrianov is fighting for his life against a rare fatal neurological disorder.

Alex Buscaglia posted videos from Pan Ams on his youtube channel.

Jeremy Ten has been added to the field at Skate Canada.

Jeremy Miranda, Rhonda's main gay, took a break from choreographing floor routine to film auditions for a role he is up for in Cirque du Soleil.

Video of Nastia Liukin's skating lesson with Evan.

  1. In whatever capacity, (?) Nastia and Evan appear to be back on. She was tweeting all weekend about all the stuff they were doing together. I had really hoped that if Evan was, (giggle) straight. he'd show better taste- that girl has the biggest, shiniest, forehead on earth.

  2. Bangs would help her look so much prettier. They're doing another of those skating/gymnastics shows. Why? I have no idea. I like them both sports but not together.

  3. Does "artistic male skater" mean what I think it means? ;-)

  4. What in the world was all of that flailing that Jeremy did? Is that what cirque is looking for? Good gosh that was hysterical

  5. awww Evan and Nastia are too cute. I hope they are back together for keeps.

  6. Jeremy was actually doing a really good job portraying the character Cirque is interested for him to do in Kooza.

  7. Evan was interviewed on the us open tonight... still poppin his collar like a 2006 douche.

  8. Nastia sweetie I think pants with writing on the butt went out of style in '06.

  9. Ok I'm not always inclined to rise to Nastia's defense but I don't get the hate for her forehead. Yes, it's higher than almost everyone's but I think it gives her a unique kind of beauty and a very classic Russian look that suits her personality.

Lord knows she's trying to look like every other bleached blond haired tanned skin 20 year old in LA but I think her face(including the forehead) keeps her classier than she'd otherwise appear.

Beauty is subjective but I can't even wrap my head around people thinking Evan is too good looking for her. Maybe if he had any kind of charisma or didn't come off as completely asexual.

    In conclusion...rock that forehead Nastia.

  10. What does Nastia see in that guy, honestly? Well anyways, is it a coincidence Evan is in NY for US Open while Nastia is also in NY for the fashion week?

  11. love the cheer leader on ice in the back ground... sassy two piece!

  12. Nastia has attended Fashion Week since '08.

I went to her appearance for her clothing line in LA a few weeks ago. I found her personable, attractive, and very sweet with the children in attendance. I don't see what she sees in Lysacek, either.

Now, if only she would get back in the gym......

  13. I get why Evan would want to be seen with her or have everyone believe that they are in a relationship. But what's in it for Nastia? Does she get that much publicity from it? Could it be she actually likes him? If so, how could she (still) be clueless? Just wondering. It's interesting. I have to say they both did look kind of cute here, though.

I know...what is with that. I wonder how long this straight act will last. He's got get comfortable so he can have the kind of relationships that he really wants. Also Evan is not that cute. He has that potential but like my man Federer there's something that stands in the way...lol.

  15. Ok Evan might suck, but what's with the notion that being "seen" with Nastia is some type of career booster? No offense to either, but it's not like homegirl spends her time rubbing shoulders with A listers (or B or C). Come on, the Jersey Shore tools have more name recognition. Sad, but true.

If anything, Nastia seemed to benefit the most from Evan by way of all of the air time HE got HER during the winter games. All of her TV/media/news time was Evan related. Smart move on her part.

Maybe they're just genuinely friends, who knows (who cares). Athletes seem to hang together all of the time.

  24. To Anonymous above who posted the same comment 10,000x, I disagree! :)

"If anything, Nastia seemed to benefit the most from Evan by way of all of the air time HE got HER during the winter games. All of her TV/media/news time was Evan related."

Nastia wasn't exactly a D-list Olympic G-O-L-D medalist while strutting around Vancouver. Please, you're giving Evan too much credit. Nastia is still getting media attention on her own 2 yrs after Beijing. She doesn't need to thank Evan for that.

  25. I agree that Nastia is beautiful and Evan is a big gay dork.

But even if people think she's ugly and he's an Adonis ...as a post-pubescent female gymnast Nastia gets like 10,000 hot points. The male equivalent would be like a Navy SEAL, not a figure skater.

    She could do better.

  27. "Yes, Evan does suck ;)" Ewww ;)

I think it's nice that Nastia was part of his support team on his way to winning his own Olym gold medal. When they first met in 2008, she already got the top prize while he was still known as 4th-place finisher at the Turin Olympics. It's hard to imagine that she's the golddigger as some of Evan's fans would like to think. Wouldn't it be great if Nastia went for London Olympics, Evan will be there as her supporter? Rather doubt it.

  28. As far as her fashion tastes go... I don't want to offend anyone but she is almost understated for someone who used to inhabit a Soviet Republic. Generations of working your ass off for no money and nothing exciting to buy and you'd probably want some extra sparkles on your clothes too.

  29. HAHA sorry about the 9 zillion posts, I have no idea why it posted like that. I was hoping AJ would delete the duplicates or something.

And I guess we'll just have to agree or disagree, but from the media titles it was along the lines of "who is Evan's golden girl?" or whatever Not "who is Nastia's olympic contender" or what have you. That is what made me say she made a smart decision is capitalizing off of Evan :) Which I do think she made a smart decision! Why not?

  30. I guess Nastia's is now at the US Open as well, BUT she's photographed w/ Djokavic and Ryan Lochte!!! Go Nastia. Those guys are really good-looking.
