Their dances were quite horrible as I recall, and it drove me crazy how high they placed.nashvilledancernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-77932472222626640382010-12-05T20:57:30.396-08:002010-12-05T20:57:30.396-08:00I hadn't heard much about Lobacheva/Averbukh b...I hadn't heard much about Lobacheva/Averbukh but all of a sudden they were the Russian #1 and rising in world standings. I never quite understood that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-32968426044638427882010-12-05T15:45:39.319-08:002010-12-05T15:45:39.319-08:00If you attempt a counter factual history with Aver...If you attempt a counter factual history with Averbukh/Anissina as Russia's #1, lack of chemistry looks like a minor variable. Two things would have favored Ilia/Marina winning: the judging deals of the period favoring Russians and the tradition of "waiting your turn". They would have built up momentum over the years and been perceived as the "next in line".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-29622111445827290002010-12-05T09:43:51.126-08:002010-12-05T09:43:51.126-08:00Love it, but a small correction: Averbukh and Loba...Love it, but a small correction: Averbukh and Lobacheva do have a son together, Martin.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387050766907671577.post-57371360730512972102010-12-05T09:42:47.360-08:002010-12-05T09:42:47.360-08:00I don't believe that if Averbukh stayed with A...I don't believe that if Averbukh stayed with Anissina that he would have necessarily made it to Olympic Gold. They might have had the technical goods and a kind of Russian panache but nothing truly special in their chemistry or presentation to take that top spot.

One of the main reasons that Anissina made it to the top with Peizerat was that their on ice chemistry developed into something truly dynamic with her stolid Russian dramatics against his cool French regal-ness. Ahh memories!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
