Discuss the strategic decisions.

  1. Looks like both USA and Russia are going big and all out. I expect falls from both. It could be an ugly final.

  2. Since Aliya is over Grishina on vault, does that mean she's doing the Amanar? I don't know scores from prelims, so maybe Aliya scored better than Grishina anyways.

    1. Yeah, looking up the scores would be impossible.

    2. Grishina had a shitty DTY in prelims. Hopefully Aliya will go for it and make the battle close. Grishina needs to hit bars and floor!

  3. For some reason i thought Russia woulf put grishina on beam over ksenia.

Cant wait to see ksenia floor. If only her and catalina could have a dance off on fx.

    1. She's so strange to me b/c in photos of her performing her routines she looks exquisite. Every movement is beautiful and elegant. But watching her, it's like............... there's nothing there.

  5. I kinda wanted to see a Wieber All Around Redemption...I guess Marta is going with Gabby for beam...I wonder how Geddert feels..

    1. I have this image of Geddert flouncing off after prelims (and interviews) and refusing to have anything to do with the team anymore. Hey, a girl can dream.

    2. He's probably going to break Gabby's ankle in her sleep. Maybe he shouldn't have kicked Jordyn out of the gym after Olympic Trials when she was having a tough day.

    3. Re: anon 5:15: Are you serious? He did that? Was she being disrespectful or refusing to work?

    4. It's in one of his blog entries after Trials. He said the week after Trials was a struggle. She was tired physically and mentally. And then he goes on to say he kicked out of practice because he refused to accept mediocre performances. Then he goes on to complain about how much it costs him to train Jordyn.

He seems like a stand up guy.

    5. I lived for that blog post. I also loved in the lastest WW with her he was like "An olympian is the only thing I don't have on my resume." Doesn't surprise me that this is more about him than her.

  6. He is probably pissed. On paper, it makes sense. Douglas ranked 3rd in beam. She can produce the highest score tomorrow IF SHE HITS. And I actually don't think she is as arrogant or cocky as people make her out to be. I think she means well and wants to say the right things, but comes off negatively. Its too bad. She really has a wonderful story from being written off last year to redemption of the year.

    1. The girl can't win. All quad she's been the "head case" or "flaky" and now that she doesn't look/sound terrified at every meet she's "arrogant." I do think that's a gymternet thing more than anything the public will come around to liking her it seems.

    2. I don't think Gabby is arrogant. I think she has been "coached" in her media training to show everyone how confident she's become and that she's not the shy, meek Gaby she once was. As a result, she's a bit over-focused on stating how confident she is and her interviews lack a bit of authenticity as a result.

    3. Anon 3:07...i feel exactly the same way. You hit the nail on the head there.

    4. Gabby tied for 2nd with Komova on Beam. I don't understand the people who are seeing her in a negative light. I think she is the cutest thing out there. She says what she is feeling, and I'd rather see that than listen to her speak something from a memorized index card. Even when she does fall, she has nothing to be ashamed of. She's not over focused on saying how confident she is. She must be SO TIRED of the media asking her about her confidence. If they'd stop asking, she'd stop talking about it. The girl believes in herself as she should. She's an Olympian with some of the highest difficulty out there! Go Gabby!

    5. I can't abide Gabby. It all seems so scripted and although she's athletically talented, she's not any more artistic than Weiber or Raisman.

Of course, to come completely clean, I don't like any of this US team, unlike '08 where I more or less liked them all except for Shawn Johnson

  7. Huang last on beam for China...

  8. I honestly don't care if Douglas hit in prelims. Putting her on beam instead of Wieber makes me EXTREMELY nervous.

    1. That's okay. Everyone doubting Gabby has only made her stronger.

    2. Exactly! Dunno why they are putting her on vault unless it is to focus her and not have her waiting around to start on bars.

What do you mean you don't know why they are putting Gabby on vault? Her vault is only second to McKayla's.

Gabby will hit beam in team finals. Mark my words.

    4. As Ellen would say: My haters are my motivators.

  9. I am worried about Ross on Beam. I think the pressure might get to her.... And I think if she does fall, then Gabby will fall because of the extra pressure. I hope I eat my words tomorrow!

  10. douglas over raisman on vault? i'd rather see raisman's form, hops, and steps rather than someone on their ass. how long exactly has douglas been hitting the amanar consistently? doulgas over weiber on beam? maybe i could see the reasoning behind that. well no i can't. but seriously, ross over weiber on beam? w t f is up with that?

    1. Aly had the lowest vault score on the team in Qualifications. Gabby tied with McKayla for the highest. She hits the Amanar consistently in competition. If Jordyn steps on the beam again, she's going to fall off. It's not working for her. Even if Gabby falls off of the Beam, she can score higher than Jordyn.

  11. Taking Jordyn off beam was very smart. She hasn't scored well on beam since worlds last year. Gabby has beautiful lines and extension on beam - as long as there aren't many wobbles she'll score very well.... Again!

  12. I'm really enjoying how they showed Aly's parents during her routine to make it seem like they have been behind her and cared about her gymnastics all along. Very smooth NBC.

    1. what? you are insinuating they would not be behind her? They pay all those bills, what kind of moron are you to think her parents would not care about their daughter?

  13. Gabby is a Jesus freak. I can't stand that. Aly is my new hope for USA AA gold!
