Photo for Thought

How DOES Cata manage to look so classy in each and every leotard?  She manages to make each and every one a slightly oversized thong.

  1. women's gymnastics and figure skating is so archaic, the men don't dress like this, can only think of diving where men dress in so little clothing

    1. Leos are to help show body lines, etc. It's the same way with a lot of dance clothing.

  2. That is horrible. How embarrassing! There needs to be something in the Code of Points about appropriate leos. With all the Code's dumb rules, there's nothing in there about properly covering up?? Leos need to go back to the appropriate cuts of the '70s.

    1. There ARE rules about leos being appropriate. Remember back in the 90's when the Chinese had to change their leos because they were too high cut? Then rules obviously need to be applied in this case, and preferably the Romanians will get that memo before the Olympics and inform Cata that she should not be trying to wear the same size as she needed when she was 13.

  3. That is seriously profane.

  4. Thank you for waxing at least...

  5. JO has rules about leos and deductions for inappropriate attire (after a warning), but I'm not sure what they are for FIG. In JO you can't have your briefs showing outside your leo and your hip bones are supposed to be covered.

  6. yeah... that's a bit much... reminds me of the thong leos of the early 90's...

    1. Only, in the 90s, people wore leggings underneath their leotards.

  7. I remember the Chinese being given a deduction in the team competition in the 92 Olympics because of the way their leotards fit (WAY too much buttcheek). I don't know if it's in the current code, but it did used to be up to the discretion of the judges to deduct for overall appearance.

  8. this is by far the worst I've seen, but I have noticed this season that the leos are cut wayyyy too high for just about everyone. way too much underware on live tv.

    1. Not true. She's pretty sexy but that is not classy to see. She should not be wearing that at the Olympics. It would really make the sport look even more tacky. She tries too hard to be sexy in her dancing but it comes off as trashy. She hasn't found the right balance of being tasteful and classy while being sensual and sassy. But most straight dudes will be drooling at her new floor routine at the Olympics.

  16. A hell of a bikini wax if I must say!

  17. #1; that requires serious detailing to keep it clean with that much showing. #2; didn't there used to be rules about leg cut/butt cleavage and gymsuits? If this is still the case, how does this not get penalized!?!

  18. To those talking about underwear deductions: I'd much, much rather see flesh-colored underwear hanging out than that much of the, uh, pubic area. (I'd rather see a better cut than either of these, but that was kind of obscene. Having half-the-butt-cheek-hanging-out-becoming-acceptable is bad enough, but the full frontal look is gross.)

    1. I agree. Bring out the underwear!

  19. This is what the code says about leotards. In that picture she is pushing it on the hip bone point which is what the Chinese team was deducted for, however whereas hip bones are a big no no, apparently labia are just fine!

    1.2 Responsibilities of the Gymnasts
    Competition Attire
    – She must wear a correct sportive non transparent leotard or unitard (one
piece leotard with full length legs-hip to ankle), which must be of elegant
    design.
    • She may wear complete leg coverings of the same color as that of the
leotard; under or on top of the leotard.
    • The neckline of the front and back of the leotard/unitard must be proper,
that is no further than half of the sternum and no further than the lower
    line of the shoulder blades.
    • Leotards/unitard may be with or without sleeves; shoulder strap width
    must be minimum 2 cm.
    • The leg cut of the leotard may not extend beyond the hip bone
    (maximum).
    • The leotard leg length can not exceed the horizontal line around the leg,
delineated by no more than 2 cm below the base of the buttock

    – A national identification or emblem must be placed on the leotard or unitard
as per the most recent FIG publicity rules.
    – The gymnast must wear only those logos, advertising and sponsorship
identifiers that are permitted in the most recent FIG publicity rules.
    – The leotard/unitard must be identical for members from the same
federation in the Qualification (C-I) and Team Final Competition (C-IV). In
the Qualification (C-I) individual gymnasts from the same federation
(without a team) may wear different leotards/unitards.
    – No jewelry (bracelets or necklaces) may be worn, except small stud type
    pierced earring.
    – A start number, supplied by the organizers according to FIG specifications,
    must be worn.
    • With approval of her written petition, the gymnast may remove the
number in rare cases of back spins on the Balance Beam and Floor.
    • Then the number must be manually displayed by the gymnast, or coach
immediately before her presentation to the D- Judges at the beginning
    of the exercise.
    – Hip or other padding is not allowed.
    – Hand-grips at uneven bars, body bandages, and wrists wraps are
permitted; they must be securely fastened, in good repair and should not
detract from the aesthetics of the performance. Bandages must be beigecolored.
    – The wearing of gymnastic slippers and socks is optional.

  20. I know the leos are cut high to "extend the leg line" or whatever but I don't think that 15 year olds should need a brazillian before competition. And with today's HD TVs and camerapeople's lack of tact, one of these days we are going to get a crotch shot with too much showing.

I personally like those little shorty-shorts they practice in. Or they should move to full body suits like the swimmers do--one solid color bodysuit or graphic enhanced outfit would extend the legline more than a french cut leotard.

Only positive thing to say about this--at least she is a grown woman and not an underage child.

  21. These kinds of leos should be banned. It leaves nothing to the imagination. And how in the name of all that is holy does one compete in a leo like this without flashing their goodies to the entire world? Do they have some special glue or something? I just don't understand how, when you're flipping and twisting, and doing Tkatchevs, that something doesn't slip out once in a while. It's amazing that in all the years I've been watching gymnastics, I haven't see a wardrobe malfunction.

    1. There have been malfunctions which I have seen in still photos but not on tv camera (so that's what tape delay is for)

  24. This beats the chinese at a Houston meet where we couldn't figure out what we were seeing in the stands on their behinds..the American athletes told us later they had Hello Kitty underwear under their leotards..This apparently even distracted the American athletes..lol..The chinese athletes were really gracious and fun to watch..Hello Kitty or not..

  25. Why don't gymnasts wear tight shorts to competition? Is showing butt-cheek mandatory?

    ReplyDelete
  26. deductions for inaproriate leos are like deductions for lack of artistry on floor, they exist but they are never taken

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've always wondered that too - how do gymnasts keep their leotards in place? Is there some sort of tape or something? How do you perform some of those split skills with confidence?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I always used tuff-skin to keep my leo in place.

    2. You had to go the whole routine in competition and wait to pull your leo out of your ass when you finished. That's why people wear the shorts over their leos in practice so you don't have to worry about your wedgie.
